Chapter 2

Kay Bennett groaned as she entered her parent’s home. Her son was sleeping in her arms, his tiny frame snug against her. “Daddy? Are you home?” She called out as she approached the stairs, her heavy baby bag almost falling off her arm. “Is anyone here?”

“Just me.” A voice called as she looked up to see Miguel walk out of the kitchen. He smiled over at her, his plain white shirt smudged with what looked like grease. His hands were stuck in his jean pockets as he walked toward her he hazel eyes gazing at their son.

“Where’s everyone at?” She questioned. “Daddy said he’d be here.”

Miguel shrugged his shoulders. “Charity and your mother went to look at cakes for the wedding. Jessica is out with Reese, and I have no idea where your father is.”

“And what about you? What’s with the greased shirt?” She asked shifting Jamie in her arms.

“I was working on your mother’s car. The brakes were messed up and I was putting the brake pads on for her.”

“Well do you think you could clean up and help me get Jamie’s stuff and bring it in?” She smiled. “I only have two arms.”

Miguel nodded his head. “Give me a minute to clean up and I’ll give you a hand.”

Kay walked over the couch and sat down, shifting Jamie so that she could move the pale blue baby bag from her arm. Leaning against the couch she looked down at her sleeping son. He was a mixture of his parents. His hair was naturally dark, but had a slight curl to it already. His was skin slightly darker than her own, but still lighter than Miguel’s. People has already said he had her nose and Miguel’s mouth, and his eyes were shaped much like Miguel’s although she hoped they would hold the brilliant blue that they already were.

“All washed up.” Miguel called just as Jamie began to stir. Kay smiled down at the baby and pulled his tiny yellow t-shirt over his stomach.

“I think he’s waking up.” Kay spoke looking up at Miguel. “Want to hold him?”

“Do you even have to ask?” He laughed slowly taking the baby from Kay’s arms. Looking down at the tiny jeans on the baby he shook his head. “I had no idea they made jeans this small.”

“They are so adorable don’t you think?” She questioned. “I have a little baseball cap, but it still falls off his head.” She cooed.

“Speaking of baseball.” Miguel spoke dropping his head. “Charity bought Jamie a couple outfits.”

“That was sweet of her.” Kay smiled.

Miguel shook his head. “Well, I’m not sure you’ll like them.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah, one is a little football shirt, and the other a baseball outfit.” Miguel frowned. “And the teams, well.” He stopped before completing his sentence.

“What teams Miguel?” Kay questioned. “I’m sure it’s not that bad.”

“She got him a Yankee outfit Kay.”

“Yankees?” Kay gulped. “A Yankee outfit? She does realize we’re both huge Red Sox fans doesn’t she?”

“It gets worse.” Miguel spoke. “The football shirt, its a Colt’s shirt.”

“Oh she didn’t.” Kay gasped. “My kid in a Colt shirt? Miguel, everyone knows what a Patriot fan I am.”

Miguel nodded his head, “I thought she knew that I was a Red Sox fan.”

“Why doesn’t she just stick a knife through my chest?” Kay muttered. “I can’t let my kid wear those things. I hate the Colts, stupid Manning and his attitude.”

Miguel shrugged his shoulders. “She thinks he’s cute and nice.”

“Cute? Has she ever saw Tom Brady? Miguel please.”

“Well it could be worse.” Miguel chuckled. “She said she almost bought him a Rams jersey because she loved the colors.”

Kay rolled her eyes. “He’s not wearing those things Miguel. I just can’t do it.”

“Can’t do what?” Charity’s voice sounded as she walked out of the kitchen.

“I didn’t hear you come in.” Miguel spoke cradling Jamie in his arms.

Charity smiled moving a strand of loose hair from her face. “We came in from the back.” Looking over at Kay she smiled brightly. “Did Miguel tell you about the cute little outfits I bought for Jamie? He is just going to look so adorable in them.”

“Um yeah he did.” Kay spoke forcing a smile. “That was very sweet of you.”

“I just can’t wait to see him in them.”

Kay looked over at a smirking Miguel, “Actually, I was thinking we could leave those at Pilar’s. That way when Miguel has Jamie he will have those outfits to put him in.”

“Really?” Charity giggled. “Oh that would be great. We’ll have to dress him up and takes lots of pictures in them won’t we Miguel?”

Miguel glared over at Kay and then looked up at his girlfriend. “Yeah, I guess.”

Charity sighed. “I guess I should go help Aunt Grace. We stopped at the store on the way in.”

Miguel watched as his girlfriend walked out of the room and turned to glare at Kay. “Thanks a lot.”

“Anytime.” Kay smirked. “And I do want to see those pictures.” She teased.

“Ha Ha.” Miguel spoke. “You think you’re funny Bennett.”

“No, I know I am.” Kay shrugged.

“You’re so full of yourself.” Miguel smirked. “You always have been.”

“And you’ve always hated it haven’t you?” Kay questioned.

“No, actually its always kept me intrigued.” Miguel answered sitting his son up slightly.

“Intrigued huh, so that’s why your friends with me? Because I’m interesting?”

“Something like that.” Miguel laughed. “Think our son will be like you?”

“Gosh I hope not.” Kay grinned. “Two of me in this world? I don’t think Harmony could handle it.”

“I know I couldn’t handle it.” Miguel joked teasingly.

Kay rolled her eyes. “Oh hush.”

“You know I’m just joking Kay.” Miguel spoke.

“Yeah , sure you are.”
____________

From the doorway Charity Standish stood watching her cousin and boyfriend as they laughed and talked.

“Aunt Grace.” Charity whispered as her aunt appeared behind.

“Yes Charity?”

“Miguel and Kay, were they like this before I came?”

“Like what dear?” Grace questioned resting her hands on Charity’s shoulders.

“So at ease together.”

Grace frowned. She had slowly been building back her relationship with her daughter. Watching as Miguel laughed at Kay’s comment she glanced over at her niece. “They’ve always been good friends Charity, but Miguel he’s with you now.”

Charity forced a smile. “I know that Aunt Grace, its just that I’ve never really watched them before.”

Grace nodded her head. “They’re best friends, nothing more.” She assured her niece.

“Yes of course they are.” Charity nodded. “Aunt Grace can I ask you something else?”

“Of course dear.”

“I’ve been having these strange visions. They’re not like the ones I usually have. These are from the past.”

“The past?”

“Miguel and Kay’s past.” Charity frowned. “Aunt Grace, did Miguel give Kay her first kiss?”

“I don’t know, you’ll have to ask them that why?”

“Because I saw it.” Charity whispered. “I saw it last night.”

“Perhaps you should talk to Miguel about that.” Grace frowned. “I’m sure its nothing Charity.”

“Yeah, I’m sure your right Aunt Grace. Its probably nothing at all.”

Seeing the worry in Charity’s eyes Grace sighed. “You are marrying him Charity. You’re going to build a life with him. Kay doesn’t want him now, she’s over that.”

“I know that Aunt Grace. Honestly I know that Miguel loves me.” Charity spoke with a smile. “I guess its just pre-wedding jitters.”

“Of course it is dear. I have an idea, why don’t you and Miguel go out tonight? Just relax and have a nice evening out?”

“That’s a wonderful idea Aunt Grace.” Charity smiled. “I think I’ll go see what Miguel wants to do now.”

Grace watched as Charity walked into the living room. Her family was going to be ok they had to be ok.

“Miguel.” Charity called out with a smile. “Miguel, would you like to go out to dinner tonight?”

Miguel frowned. “It depends on what time we get back from the doctor.” He explained. “Kay and I were talking about having Jamie’s pictures made once we get done with his appointment.”

“Miggs we can go to the studio another time.” Kay smiled.

“But you said they were running a sale right now, and Kay we both are pinching pennies at the moment.” Miguel frowned. “You understand right Charity?”

Kay thought for a moment, “Miggs, you’ll get back home in plenty time to go out with Charity anyway. I’m sure it won’t take that long to do the things we have planned.”

“Yeah but I work the night shift tonight.” Miguel groaned. “I really need a new job.”

“Its ok.” Charity whispered. “I understand.”

“Charity I’m really sorry.” Miguel sighed. “We’ll go to dinner another time.”

“Yeah, its fine really.” Charity spoke through a forced smile. Closing her eyes she felt a sharp pain as visions began to fill her mind.

“Miguel, do you think she’s hot? It’s a simple question.” Reese Durkee questioned a young Miguel. The boys were sitting by a pool and in the corner Kay was standing in a black and white bikini.

“Dude, she’s like my best friend.” Miguel laughed. “But yeah she’s hot.”

“So ask her out.” Reese smirked.

“It would mess up the friendship dude. I mean Kay’s perfect, but she’s also my friend.”

“Is that why you’ve been looking her up and down for the last hour?” Reese joked.

“Never said she wasn’t built.” Miguel chuckled.

As the vision went to black Charity’s eyes became wide. “You wanted her.” She whispered. “You wanted her.”

“Huh?” Miguel questioned looking up at his girlfriend. “Charity was it a vision?”

Blinking she looked at Miguel and Kay. “I saw you and Reese at a pool. Kay was wearing a black and white bikini and you wanted her.” She spoke her tone dull and slow.

Miguel and Kay exchanged looks as their eyes went back to Charity.

“Charity, what are you talking about?” Kay questioned.

“He wanted you.” She spoke again.

“Wanted me how?” Kay asked confused by her cousin’s words.

“He said you were hot, and he couldn’t keep his eyes off of you.” Charity whispered.

“You saw us in the past?” Miguel swallowed. “Oh wow.”

“Its not the first time Miguel.” Charity spoke shaking her head. “You were her first kiss. I saw it, on the beach at night.”

Kay’s mouth gapped open. “You saw that?”

“Its true.” Charity whispered. “Isn’t it?”

“We were like twelve years old then.” Kay spoke quickly. “It was a long time ago.”

“But it happened.” Charity frowned. “And it meant something to both of you.”

“It wasn’t even that great of a kiss.” Kay lied.

“So you’ve been seeing things that happened in the past?” Miguel asked again. “Things with me and Kay?” Fear seeped into him as he looked up at Charity. If she could see his first kiss what else could she see from his past?

“You wanted her Miguel.”

“Charity.” Kay spoke with a sigh. “It was a long time ago.”

“Sweetheart I think you should go rest.” Miguel suggested. “This is nothing to stress out about. Like Kay said it was years ago.”

“I am tired.” Charity nodded.

“Then you should go take a nap and just forget those visions.” Miguel smiled. “That was the past.”

Charity slowly turned around and walked upstairs leaving both Miguel and Kay confused.

“Oh Miggs if she starts seeing our past.” She spoke her voice trailing.

“It’ll kill her, I know.” He nodded. “Believe me I know.”

Whitney Russell felt warm tears fall down her face as she stared at a picture of her best friend. “Oh God what have I done.” She whimpered as she glanced around the tiny apartment she had been living in with Chad. “What have I done to us Theresa?”
She had been hurt when her father made her decide between her family and Chad. LA had sadly fell through so Chad suggested moving in together. The apartment was small, barely any room to move around in, and most of the time Whitney was alone. Closing her eyes she could see the moment everything began to spin even further out of control. It had been a mistake, one huge mistake after another.

Whitney Russell opened the old door of her apartment to find Ethan standing there a frown on his face.

“Ethan what’s wrong?”

“Where’s Chad?” He questioned with a sigh. “I need to talk to Chad.”

“Chad is at the studio.” Whitney frowned. “Chad is always at the studio.”

“I guess I’ll find him there.”

“Ethan.” Whitney spoke. “Is everything ok?”

Ethan dropped his head,” Things will be fine when I figure out what to do with the three women in my life.”

“Three?”

“My daughter, Gwen and Theresa.” Ethan spoke. “Its all so complicated now. I’ll just go find Chad.”

“Actually he was suppose to meeting with someone today.” Whitney frowned.

“Oh. So why are you here at home? Shouldn’t you be practicing tennis?”

Whitney’s eyes fell to the floor, “I’ve haven’t played tennis since daddy told me to get out of his house.”

“Oh Whitney, I had no idea it was that bad.” Ethan spoke quickly. “But I thought you loved tennis?”

“I do.” She nodded, “Daddy is just very upset with me right now. I haven’t been in the mood to even play. I feel live I’ve lost so much.”

“Well.” Ethan spoke with a smile. “How about a game? See if you can beat me.”

“You’re kidding right?” Whitney laughed. “Me play you?”

“Why not? Maybe it’d get our minds off everything.”

“It would be nice to get out of this place.” Whitney spoke with a frown. “Ok, let’s go.”

Whitney opened her eyes as she shook her head. It had been the worst decision she had ever made. She had needed a friend, and Ethan, well she still wasn’t sure what Ethan needed. What had started as one innocent game of tennis had spiraled out of control. Ethan would call looking for Chad and end up talking to her for hours. It felt nice just to hear someone’s voice. She rarely saw Theresa because she was simply busy with her own life. Her sister hated her, her father refused to give in and when her mother called she could hear her father in the background talking about that ‘punk’ Chad.

It was only suppose to be friendship Whitney thought as she hugged her pillow. Nothing more than just two friends
talking, but something went wrong. Somewhere in all their talks of Theresa and Chad, Ethan had leaned over and kissed her cheek one night. It was a simple kiss at first and then it turned into more. Whitney told Ethan to stop quickly, and explained that it could never happen again. He agreed with her, promised her that they would remain just friends.

“I didn’t mean to Theresa.” She whispered. “I honestly didn’t mean too.”

“Didn’t mean to do what?” A voice spoke jolting Whitney from her thoughts.

Looking up her eyes grew large. “Mom.”

Eve Russell frowned. “I knocked but you never answered, and the door was unlocked so I just let myself in. I was worried Whitney.”

Whitney wiped her eyes. “I’m sorry I scared you mom.” Her voice was a whisper as she tried to pull herself together.

“Whitney what were you saying? What didn’t you mean to do to Theresa?”

“Mom it was nothing.” Whitney tried.

“You can’t lie to me Whitney.” Eve sighed walking over to sit down next to her oldest daughter. “Please sweetheart tell me what’s wrong.”

Whitney tried to hold her tears back as she looked into her mother’s trusting eyes. “I can’t.” She whimpered. Looking back at her mother she suddenly felt her tears begin to run down her face. She couldn’t stop them, and she didn’t want to. “Oh mom I’ve really messed up.” She cried. “I’ve ruined everything.”

Eve took her daughter in her arms and held her as she slowly began to tell her mother everything that had happened. She told her about the tennis game, and about the first kiss. She cried as she tried to understand how she could be so foolish.

“Whitney.” Eve spoke moments after her daughter had told her. “That’s not like you.”

“I know mom.”

“But you said it was just one kiss? Honey maybe you can tell Theresa and make her understand.”

“No mom.” Whitney frowned. “It wasn’t just one kiss.” Lowering her head she sighed. “Ethan knew what it was like to feel like you have no one in the world. He lost Julian and in a way I feel live I’ve lost daddy. Chad was never here for me and Theresa she’s in her own little world. Ethan he just listened and then I would listen to him. One night after that kiss, we met in the park. I knew it was crazy but Chad was still gone and I just really wanted to see a friendly face. We kissed again that night.”

“And that was it? You two did you ever?” Eve spoke refusing to say the words.

“Did we ever sleep together?” Whitney questioned. “Mom I can’t answer that.”

“Oh Whitney no.” Eve frowned. “Please tell me you didn’t.”

Whitney took a deep breath, “I’m sorry mom. It happened once.” She admitted. “Only once.”

“Whitney why?”

“Chad was at the studio, and I went by to surprise him. I saw this girl in there with him flirting with him. My mind just went crazy and I thought he might be cheating on me. I went in and confronted him and we had this huge fight. The girl was only fifteen and was there with her dad. Chad had no interest in her, but told me I didn’t trust him. It was really harsh. To make matters worse, I ran into Simone at the Book Café and we had words. She told me she hoped Chad left me for someone else. She said I didn’t deserve to be loved after what I did to her.” As tears rolled down Whitney’s face she frowned. “And then as I was leaving, Ethan saw me. He had just been with Gwen and they had this massive fight over their daughter. I can’t explain how it happened, but it just did. It was wrong mom, I know that, but I can’t go back.” Whitney sobbed. “I’m going to loose my best friend. I can’t loose her Mom, I can’t loose Theresa.”

“Don’t worry Whitney, it will be ok.” Eve promised.

“How can you say that? After what I’ve done?”

“Things will work out. I’m going to help you figure this out Whit.” Eve soothed holding her daughter again.

“I’ve got to tell Ethan it can never happen again Mom. I have to end it with him once and for all.”
