Crooked Halos Ch. 16

One Month Later

Charity Standish smiled as she looked at her apartment. She loved the idea of having a place of her own, even if she did have to work with Brayden’s mother. Her life was good now, though the flashes of memories always sat her back a little. She knew a lot about herself though, remembering pieces of her childhood, and times with her mother. She had been shocked to learn that she hated Pink as a child, and that her mother nicknamed her Bossy. She also knew that she had owned a dog once, Carrot was his name strangely enough.

She looked over at the pictures in her living room, frames holding shots of her and Chad, Chad and Theresa, and yes even Bray’s picture sat near her T.V . Theresa had became a friend to her, though they both vowed never to speak of ‘the kiss’ ever again. Chad was very pleased to hear that the two women in his life had made peace, as he spent a lot of time with Charity.

"Charity can we come in?" Chad’s voice rang out as she looked to see him poking his head through the door.
"Of course you can." She smiled watching as Theresa and Chad walked into her home, and as usual Bray was right behind them. "Oh you again." She frowned looking up at Bray as he smirked at her.
"Missed me didn’t you sweetheart?" He winked.
She sighed, some things would never change, she thought to herself. She just knew she would spend the rest of her life fighting with Bray. "Why would I miss you?" She questioned.
Theresa smiled, "Now you two play nice."
"I don’t want to!’ Bray laughed.
"Girl this place is looking great!" Chad said looking around the tiny space.
"Yeah I think so." She smiled.
"We’ve gotta go shopping one day, get you some extra things though." Theresa smiled.
"Shopping? You two shop? Now if that ain’t scary I don’t know what is." Chad laughed as Theresa nudged him.
"Charity in the morning without makeup, that’s scary!" Bray grinned.
Charity rolled her eyes, " You bother me, have I told you that lately? You simply bug every nerve in my body!" She growled.
"Oh, break my heart." Bray frowned teasingly. " Tell me how you really feel!"
"Enough the both of you." Chad sighed. "You both act two children on the playground."
"Do not!" They both said in unison.
"See?" Chad laughed. "Children I tell ya."
"Either that or these two are just so hot for each other they can’t stand it." Theresa winked.
"Now that’s just gross." Charity frowned taking a deep breath as she began to suddenly feel a bit nervous.
"Not to mention totally crazy!" Bray agreed staring down at the floor.
"Well at least you two agree on something." Chad smiled as both Charity and Bray rolled their eyes.

~*~*~*~*~*

Two hours later Charity and Bray sat watching Chad and Theresa cuddle on the sofa. "Do you think that they know we’re in the room?" Bray asked popping a chip in his mouth.
"No, they’re in their own little world." She sighed.
"Sick isn’t it?" Bray asked smiling.
"Yeah very." She said thinking of how she and Miguel used to act. The very thought of being so close to Miguel once now made her skin crawl.
"Ever acted like that?" Bray asked looking at Charity, her mind somewhere else.
"Actually I have." She frowned. "Miguel and I were much worse that Chad and Resa." She said looking at Bray.
"You cared a lot about him didn’t you?" Bray asked his voice actually caring for once.
Charity nodded. "I made him my whole world, and I figured out later on that, that was the biggest mistake ever."
"Well what’s that saying? You live, you learn?"
Charity smiled, "Isn’t that off a diaper commercial?"
Bray shook his head, "I was trying to be real here, but just go and ruin it."
"Sorry." Charity laughed. "I just couldn’t help it."
"Of course not."
"Really, I didn’t mean to ruin your attempt to sound intelligent." She sighed.
"It doesn’t matter I would have failed anyway." He grinned.
"Yes, yes you would’ve." Charity said jokingly as the phone rang.
Getting up she walked over and smiled, "Hello." She answered. "Jess, what’s wrong? Sweetie slow down, you’re talking way to fast. Now what’s going on. " Her face fell into a frown. "Aunt Grace? What happened? Jess how is she? Me?" looking at the people sitting in her living room she sighed. "Of course I’ll come, see you soon." She ended hanging up the phone.
"Charity what’s going on?" Chad asking standing up to look at his friend.
"Is every thing all right/" Theresa questioned.
Charity shook her head, gripping the back of her sofa. "Aunt Grace has been in a accident, and she wants to see me." She somehow said her voice shaky.
"Oh my gosh." Theresa frowned. "How is she?"
Charity shook her head as tears began to stream down her eyes. "Jess said it doesn’t look good."
