ACT TWO – CHAPTER NINE

Now that Julian had his memories back, he wanted to see Eve more than ever. He wanted to taste her beautiful lips and feel her body close to his again. He wanted to hold her tight and never let her go ever, but first he had to deal with that bastard Carlo.

Julian was fuming as he took another sip of his beer. That bastard had caused him to forget four months of his life, four months of seeing Eve and their son, four months he could never get back. He then stood up from his bed and threw the beer bottle against the wall.

“Damn him…Damn you Carlo! I will make you pay!” Julian shouted.

Carlo waited by Eve’s room door for Ivy to come out so that he could talk to Eve. He had to talk to her again before he left to get things ready for her at his place. There was no way Ivy could take care of Eve when she had to work, so that made him the only person left to take care of her. He was just about to knock on her door when Ivy finally came out. She was glaring at him evilly as she stepped out of the doorway and into the hall.

“How is she…” Carlo never got to finish his question as Ivy’s hand connected with his face.

“Stay away from Eve!”

“What the hell was that for?!”

“I’m warning you, you stay away from her or else.”

Carlo rubbed the side of his sore jaw as he now realized that Ivy knew about his feelings for Eve.

“You can’t make me stay away from her.”

Ivy looked him up and down.

“How could you do this her?”

“I didn’t do anything. Is my love for Eve that bad for you to understand?”

“You know that she still loves Julian…”

“Like I told her before, Julian’s dead. He’s not coming back! All I want is for her to give me a chance, is that so much to ask?”

“You sonofabitch… I mean it, you stay away from her.”

Marco walked around the corner and found Ivy and Carlo in a heated exchange.

“What’s going on?”

“You’re brother says that he’s in love with Eve!”

“What?!”

“She knows Marco.” Carlo said as he turned towards his brother.

“Damn you Carlo! I told you to stay away from her.”

Ivy looked from Carlo to Marco.

“You knew?”

Marco nodded.

“Why didn’t you tell me Marco?”

“Because I didn’t want you know. I didn’t want Eve to know either… I guess she does now.”

“I will not let you keep Eve away me Ivy. You don’t want to cross me.” Carlo sneered.

“Are you threatening me?”

Carlo didn’t say anything else to her as he now turned his attention back to Marco.

“You better put your woman in check before I have to.”

“What did you just say?!” Marco sneered.

“I’ll come visit Eve later on.” Carlo ignored Marco as he turned and walked away.

The next day, Julian had gotten up, took a quick shower and now was dressed. He was standing in the bathroom combing his hair when his room phone rang. He then walked out of the bathroom over to the side of his bed and answered it.

“Hello.”

“Julian, it’s me…”

“Allegra.”

“How are you dealing with everything this morning?”

“I’m fine.” He lied.

“Julian…”

“Alright… I’m mad as hell! I want to kill him right now…”

“Same here.”

“I have a plan.”

“Really…?”

“Yeah. Meet me downstairs in the lobby in ten minutes.”

“Alright.”

After he hung the phone up, Julian walked back into the bathroom to finish up. Once he was finished, he headed downstairs to the lobby and waited for Allegra to come.

Sure enough ten minutes later, Allegra was walking up to him with a bottle of water in her hand.

“I’m here, so tell me.” She said as sat down next to him.

Julian ran a hand through his hair before speaking.

“I miss my wife and my son dearly but I don’t want her seeing me just yet.

“Why not?!”

“After I got back to my room last night, I started to think of a way to deal with Carlo once and for all, but for this to happen, I don’t want him knowing that I’m alive.”

“I’m not following.”

“I want for you to go to Eve and tell her who you are and about Carlo. Make her understand that she can’t say a thing to anyone.”

“Why don’t you do it yourself?”

“Because I can’t, I have some things to take care of first.” He lowered his head.

“Julian…”

“Trust me.”

Allegra placed her bottle of water down on the end table next to her.

“What are you really planning Julian?”

“You don’t want to know.” He said then looked down at his watch. “I gotta run…”

“Where are you going?”

“Meet me back here at three o’clock.” Julian said as he began to walk away.

“Julian wait!” Allegra shouted.

Julian looked back at her.

“Where do I look first?!”

“Harmony General… she works there.”

Two hours later, Allegra was standing in front of Harmony General. She would have been there sooner, but she went back to her room to work up the nerve to come period. After her talk with Julian, she lied down on her bed and started thinking about what she was going to say to his wife. She just didn’t want to blurt things out and confuse the woman. She also decided that it would be a good idea that she didn’t run into Carlo or Marco as well. She took a deep breath before walking inside.

Inside, she walked up to the nurse’s station and asked for Dr. Eve Crane. The nurse then told her that Eve was a patient here and was in room 210 resting. She thanked the nurse and then headed to the elevator. It took her five minutes before she finally standing in front of room 210. She was breathing faster than usual and her hands felt clammy. She felt like she was going to be sick. She then closed eyes and took another deep breath before knocking on the door.

Eve had been lying on the bed staring up at the ceiling. She just couldn’t sleep with the way the baby kept moving around. She let out a frustrated sigh and was getting ready to try and go to sleep again when she heard someone knocking on her door.

“Come in.” she called out.

The door to her room opened and in walked this woman, who she had never seen before. The woman then closed the door behind her and turned back towards Eve.

“Are you Dr. Eve Crane?” Allegra asked.

“Yes I am.” Eve was about to ask who she was, but Allegra beat her to it.

“You don’t know me.”

“I can see that. What’s your name?”

“My name is Allegra Luciano.”

“Luciano?”

“Marco Luciano is my ex-husband.”

“Oh.” Eve simply said.

“Eve, the reason that I’m here is because someone asked me to come and talk to you.”

Eve then looked at her funny.

“Carlo didn’t send you did he?”

“God no!” Allegra scoffed.

“Then who sent you?”

“Your husband Julian.”

Silence-

“That’s impossible, Julian’s dead. What kind of game are you trying to pull on me?”

“I’m not trying to pull anything on you. Julian did send me here to talk to you.”

“Get out!”

“Eve please…”

“Get out!”

“What if I told you that Julian didn’t die the way you think he did? What if I told you that Julian had amnesia and has been living in Italy these past four months?”

Eve gasped in shock.

“What?!”

“I met Julian four months ago. He said his name was Sergio. A man name Giovanni found Julian on the rocks by his cabin nearly dead. He was suffering for severe hypothermia and had been poisoned. Giovanni said that had he not been in the water for as long as he was, the poison that was running through his system would have killed him.” Allegra said as she stared into Eve’s eyes. “When he came to, he didn’t know who he was or where he came from, so Giovanni named him Sergio after his dead son.”

Eve began trembling badly. Allegra reached out and placed a hand on Eve’s arm.

“It wasn’t until a few days ago that Julian started remembering things. One of the first things he remembered was you. He dreamt about you and then slowly things started coming to him more. And last night, he remembered everything.”

“Is he…?”

Allegra nodded.

“Then why isn’t he here?”

“He had to take care of something first.”

“What do you mean?”

“If I tell you this you have to promise me that you won’t tell anyone? Because if you do, Julian is as good as dead for real this time.”

Eve nodded.

“Fifteen years, Carlo killed my brother Paolo over a woman. And four months ago, he tried to kill Julian over you.”

“What?!”

“Carlo is responsible for what happened to Julian. When he sets his eye on something, he’ll do whatever is necessary for him to have it. Obviously he set his eyes on you, but you were taken. With Julian out of the way, he could have you.”

Eve placed one of her hands over her mouth and the other on her stomach. Carlo had tried to kill Julian! He was the cause of all of her heartache and suffering.

“Eve please promise me, you won’t tell anyone.” Allegra took her by the hand.

Eve nodded slowly. She was definitely in shock.

“Can I at least hear his voice?” Eve whispered.

“I’ll see what I can do.” Allegra then looked over Eve’s appearance. She had been talking to her all this time and just now noticed that she was expecting.

Eve noticed that Allegra was staring at her and smiled somberly.

“I found out the day of Julian’s supposed “death” that I was pregnant. I wanted to tell him, but I never got the chance.”

“I’m sorry to hear that. Do you want me to tell Julian that you’re in the hospital?”

“I don’t mind. He has a right to know.”

“Alright. I’m gonna leave you with my hotel number, just so you can keep in touch with me.” Allegra said as she wrote her number down for Eve. After writing her number down, she stood up and walked over towards the room door.

“Allegra…” Eve called out to her.

“Yes.”

“Tell Julian that I love him and that I’ll be waiting for his call.” She smiled.

“You got it.” Allegra smiled then walked out of the door.

Once Allegra was gone, Eve placed her hands on her stomach again and for the first time in a very long time dosed off with a smile on her face instead of crying herself to sleep.

Julian had just finished with everything he needed to do and was now walking back to the hotel. He just wanted to go back to his room and a lay down on his bed. Once he was back in his room, he was just about to walk to his bed when he heard knocking on his door.

“Julian open up!” Allegra called from the hall. Julian then turned around and let her in.

“What’s wrong?” he said a worried voice.

“I went to see Eve earlier.”

Julian just stared at her when she said that. Yes, he wanted her to go see Eve, but he didn’t think she would do it today!

“How…how is she?” Julian stuttered.

“I think you should go see for yourself.”

“What’s wrong with her?”

“Nothing is wrong with her. I just think that you should go see her now.”

“I can’t risk anyone seeing me alive yet.”

“Damn it Julian! Forget that! You go see your wife now!” Allegra shouted.

Never before had Allegra yelled at him like this. She was serious, he knew that much.

“She’s in room 210.” When she said that, the look on Julian’s face said enough, as he ran out of his room, leaving the door open.

Instead of getting a cab to take him to the hospital, he literally ran all the way there! A half hour later, he was standing in front of Eve’s room. He was leaning against the wall trying to catch his breath. He had never ran that fast before ever! After his breathing was back to normal, he placed his hand on the knob and opened the door quietly.

Once he was inside, he immediately noticed Eve on the bed sleeping. Instantly his eyes started tearing, but he wouldn’t let them fall as he walked closer to her sleeping form. When he was standing right next to her, the tears that he wouldn’t let fall, just starting pouring. He then pulled up the chair that was next to her bed and sat down. She looked so peaceful and so calm as he watched her sleep. His eyes traveled from her face to her stomach and he gasped.

‘She’s pregnant?!’ He thought to himself. He carefully placed his hand on top her stomach, then waited to see her reaction. Eve suddenly grabbed hold of his hand and held it firmly against her stomach, then moaned out his name. Julian’s breath hitched as he watched a smile appear upon her face. He knew that she loved him deeply and would never cheat on him, so this child had to be his. He smiled somberly, then used his other hand to caress her face.

“God how I’ve missed you Eve. Sorry that I couldn’t get back to you and William sooner, but I’m here now and I’m never leaving the both of you again. Carlo is going to pay for what he did to us, I promise.” He whispered softly, then stood up and kissed her on the lips. “You’re not alone anymore. Once this is over, we’ll be together again. I love you Eve.”

Julian caressed her face once more, before leaving her room as quietly as he came in. Eve suddenly stirred in her sleep and opened her eyes when she heard her door closing. She could’ve sworn she heard Julian’s voice and felt his hands and his lips.

“Julian…” She whispered.
