ACT THREE – CHAPTER THIRTEEN

The minute Julian heard Eve scream, he ran to the front door with William still in his arms. When he got there, he saw Eve on the ground by the door shaking violently then looked to the open front door. His face paled instantly. Hanging from a rope around its neck was a little kitten with a note attached under its stomach. The kitten was also badly beaten as blood trickled from the gash on its head on to the floor below.

Julian carefully walked over to Eve and handed her William before walking over to the front door. Then he hesitated a second before taking the note off of the kitten, his hands instantly becoming covered in blood. When he had it in his hands, he opened the note and began reading it.

Dear Pookie,

All you had to do was let me kill her and then we could’ve been together forever, but noooo… you chose that bitch over me! You even married her! Anyways, I’ve waited a long time for this Julian. I even hear you have two sons with that tramp. So once I kill Eve and those brats you think are yours, then two of us are gonna get together and have children of our own.

     Love,
      Becks

Once he was finish reading the note, Julian balled it up and threw down on the floor. He looked over at Eve and noticed that she had stopped shaking badly and was holding William tight to her chest. He walked over towards her and kneeled down beside her.

“It was her wasn’t it?” she whispered.

Julian nodded.

“I’ve had it up to here with people trying to come between us Julian. First it was TC, then that psycho tramp and now Carlo. I’m tired of running away from things! Rebecca and Carlo are not gonna scare me again.”

“I’m not going to let either of them hurt you or our sons Eve, I promise.”

Twenty minutes later, Julian and Eve heard knocking at the front door again. This time though, Julian walked to the front door with a baseball bat in his hand. Once he opened the door, he raised the bat over his head.

“WHAT THE HELL?!” Marco shouted as he jumped back in fear.

Julian lowered the bat slowly, then walked outside of the door and looked around before walking back to a shaken and confused Marco.

“I’m sorry about that. I thought you were someone else.”

“What’s going on? Was it Carlo?”

“No, it was someone else.” Julian said then stepped aside and let Marco in. Once they were inside, they walked into the living room and found Eve sitting on the couch with a small glass of whiskey in her hand.

“Isn’t it bad for her to be drinking when she’s breastfeeding Kellen?”

Eve looked up when she heard what Marco said.

“Don’t worry, I put up some milk for Kellen before I got this drink.” She said.

“Oh…”

Julian then walked over and sat down next to Eve as Marco walked over and sat in the chair opposite of them.

“I see you know about Carlo.” Julian said.

“Yeah. I didn’t want to believe it either, but when he called me last night I knew.”

“Allegra and Celia said they didn’t know how he escaped.”

“I know, I called them as well.”

Eve was looking between the two of them as they spoke. Then it finally dawned on her that Marco knew what Julian did as well.

“You know what Julian did to your brother?” Eve asked Marco.

He nodded.

“I got a phone call from Celia a while back before Carlo disappeared. She told me everything.”

“Weren’t you worried?”

“No. Eve I couldn’t tell you back then because I didn’t want anything to happen your unborn child.”

“What are you talking about?”

Marco looked from Eve to Julian then took a deep breath. He knew that now was the time to tell them everything.

“That day at the coffee house, Carlo told me that he killed Julian. I had known for quite some time that he was in love with you, but I couldn’t say anything because he was my brother. And when he told what he did, everything I felt for him…everything, just shattered. I considered you both good friends of mine…but he was my brother.” He paused.

He then looked at Eve and Julian again and studied their faces, but couldn’t read them.

“After that, I couldn’t look at him the same anymore. Not only had he disgraced our mama and papa, he disgraced our entire family. I wanted to tell you so badly, but I knew that if I told you what he did, it could very well cause you to miscarry your child, and I couldn’t have that eating at my conscious. So I said, that I would tell you after you had your child.” He said as tears started falling from his eyes. “Forgive me. I should’ve told you sooner, I just…but he was brother…”

Eve looked at Marco and for some reason could understand why he did what he did. On one hand, he loved his brother and didn’t want to betray his trust. And on the other, she was his friend and he didn’t want her to suffer another lost.

“Marco, it’s alright. I’m not upset with you.”

“Neither am I.” Julian said.

Marco wiped the tears that were falling down his face away before smiling at them somberly.

“Thank you.”

“There’s no need for that. What’s done is done and it’s time to move on, but I’m glad you told us.” Julian said.

Marco nodded.

“Well now that that is settled, we have some things to discuss.”

Last night after Julian and Eve left his hospital room, Carlo checked himself out of the hospital against doctor orders. He couldn’t just sit back and let Julian get away with what he did. And there was no way in hell that he was going to leave Eve alone. As he walked around his apartment holding his ribs, he stopped in front of the television when it flashed breaking news.

“The FBI and local authorities are still on the look out for convicted murderess Rebecca Osborne. Ms. Osborne escaped from the Marks Corrections Facility early yesterday morning during a routine cell check. Harmony Police have reason to believe that she is after Dr. Eve Crane, chief of staff at Harmony General Hospital and wife of former Donaldson Division CEO Julian Crane. Ms. Osborne was convicted in the shooting death of Thornton Chandler Russell, the number one ranked tennis player in the country, two years ago in Los Angeles, California. She is considered armed and dangerous. If you have any information in the whereabouts of Rebecca Osborne, you are to contact the Chief of Police of the Harmony Police Department Sam Bennett.”

Once the reporter was done, Carlo turned the television off and sat down on the table that was in front of it. He sat there for maybe twenty minutes before coming up with a plan. If he could find Rebecca, maybe he could get her to help him win Eve over and get rid of Julian finally. But for his plan to work, he would need to dig up some information on her background. Since she was a convicted murderess, maybe the library had some old files on her case. With that in mind, he stood up from the table and walked over to the front door to grab his jacket. When his jacket was on, he walked out of his apartment and headed over the Harmony Library.

Pacing back and forth across the floor of the recreation center basement, Rebecca was thinking of another way to get her hands on Eve. For two years, she thought of a way to kill Eve and have Julian to herself. Countless hours and months of planning had finally paid off. Now that she had escaped, no one was going to keep her from Julian again…no one.

It was now four in the afternoon and Julian was lying down on the couch with Eve wrapped safely in his arms. Marco had left a few hours ago after their conversation ended and had insisted that he would take care of the arrangements being made. For now on, when Eve left for work, she would have a bodyguard with her at all times and there would be bodyguards keeping an eye out for the children as well. Julian told Marco that he could take care of himself and didn’t need no bodyguard following him around.

Julian looked down at Eve’s sleeping form and moved a few strands of hair out of her face. This was just too much stress for someone like her to handle. No one should have to go through all of the emotional, mental and physical baggage that she has been going through since she was younger. Sometimes he wondered, how she had survived all that has happened to her in her short life.

His right arm was becoming numb since it was tucked under him and he hadn’t had the chance to move it. Slowly he sat up a little, careful not to wake up Eve and moved his arm to stretch it out. After stretching his arm out, he looked down to see Eve looking up at him.

“I guess I wasn’t so careful huh?”

“Nope, not at all.” Eve yawned out as she stretched.

“Did you sleep well?”

“A little.” Eve said. “Julian?”

“Hmmm?”

“What are we going to do about Rebecca and Carlo?”

Julian looked down at her again and placed his hand under her chin.

“Let me handle Rebecca and Carlo. I don’t want you to worry about them, alright? I’m not going to let them hurt our family.”

“Julian I’m just scared that I’ll lose you again.” Eve whispered as a few tears fell from her eyes.

“I won’t let them Eve… I won’t them to keep me away from you again.” Julian said as he lowered his mouth to hers.

Twenty minutes later, Carlo was walking through the park having just left the library. He stayed there for four hours researching Rebecca Osborne’s case and her involvement with Eve and Julian. During her trial, Julian and Eve’s past came to light. When he learned that the man Rebecca murdered had raped Eve, he was furious. No man had the right to assault a woman against her will. And when he learned that Julian was present during the whole ordeal, it only made Carlo more determined to get Eve away from Julian. He had let her be raped! What kind of man would let something like that happen?! That was it, no more fooling around now… Julian was going down!
