The Fall Of Temptation; Chapter 4 (Evian)
by ejcrane

A few days passed and Julian had another board meeting at the hospital, and that’s when he saw Eve. He watched as she ran into her office and closed the door. Julian followed after her and entered her office.

“Julian, get out, please!” Eve said sternly.

“We need to talk, Eve.”

“No, we don’t! What happened was a mistake,” she spoke with her hands, “It will never happen again. Both you and I will go on with our lives as if nothing ever happened.”

“What?! How can you say that?”

“How can I say this? How can I say this?! Julian, come on! How is this going to look to the church if it ever gets out, hmm?! How will Tc react if he finds out?” her eyes began to water, “He can never find out how I’ve betrayed him. I’m so ashamed of myself. This wasn’t supposed to happen,” she crossed her arms as she looked out the window, “The wife of a pastor shouldn’t be acting this way. So that’s why…” she turned back towards him, “…this is over between us. Go on with your life, Julian…move on with Olivia,” Eve said as she left Julian alone in her office.
---

Julian did as Eve said. He continued to see Olivia, but it wasn’t the same as it had been. Now that he had been with Eve; he couldn’t think of being with anyone else but her.

Eve tried to go on as if nothing had ever happened, but it wasn’t easy seeing Julian with another woman. How she gained these strong feelings for him in such a short period of time, she didn’t know. It was now three in the morning and Eve was restless. Tc was sound asleep next to her. She quietly opened the drawer to her nightstand and pulled out a white cloth type object. Eve then brought it to her nose and sniffed the scent that still lingered on it. She sighed. She could still smell Julian’s cologne on his handkerchief; still smell his cologne on his soaking body as they made love standing up in Olivia’s shower.

“Eve?” Tc asked groggily, “Baby, you can’t sleep,” he kissed her back.

Eve jumped and dropped the white cloth to the floor.

“I just turned over, honey, but now I’m going to go to sleep,” she smiled.

“Okay…night baby, I love you…” he kissed her shoulder as he wrapped his arm around her.

“I love you too, Tc,” Eve said as tears ran down her face.
---

Julian went to Seattle on business, and Olivia was going to surprise him.

“Yeah, I’m going to go to Seattle and surprise Julian,” Olivia told Eve, “I even think tonight might be the night,” she raised her eye brow as she hinted at what she had planned.

Eve smiled grimly.

Before she knew it, Olivia’s pager went off and she was now due in the OR.

“Oh, no…an emergency appendectomy?!” she groaned, “Now I won’t be able to see him,” Olivia rolled her eyes, “Well, I better go scrub up; I’ll see you later, Eve…”

Eve then came up with an idea of her own. She was going to be the one to surprise Julian in Seattle. A mischievous smile appeared across her lips.
---

Eve called Crane Industries and found out what hotel Julian was staying at. She caught the last flight to Seattle and was now awaiting her arrival.

She walked into the ritzy hotel that Julian was staying in and got onto the elevator. Eve stepped off the elevator and walked to room 222. She knocked on it, until she heard footsteps ascend towards the door.

“Yes, may I help…” Julian opened the door and stared blankly at Eve, “Eve?”

Eve shoved Julian into the room and shut the door behind her and jumped into his arms, wrapping her legs around him.

“Julian,” she kissed him, “Julian, I’ve missed you,” she moaned into his mouth, “Tell me you want me,” she breathed heavily, “Tell me I’m the one you want…not Olivia. Tell me, Julian…tell me,” she rubbed her lower half against him.

“I want you, Eve…you and only you,” he kissed Eve hungrily as he carried her over to the bed.
---

“Why is this, Julian?”

“Hmm, why is what, darling,” his fingers caressed her bare shoulder as they laid side by side, in each others arms, staring at the ceiling.

“How can this feel so right, but be so wrong at the same time?” her hand played with the hair on his arm.

“I don’t know, Eve.” He raised her chin, “All I know is that my heart aches for you when I’m not with you, and my mind plays your face over and over again like a movie when I don’t see you…”

“Julian,” her voiced cracked as she raised herself up to meet his lips with hers.
---

Julian and Eve had fallen asleep in each others arms and Eve was now waking up to the smell of eggs, bacon, toast, and coffee. She smiled. Julian had had arranged for her to have breakfast in bed as he showered.
---

Tc woke up to an empty bed, but that wasn’t unusual. Eve had always worked nights every now and then, but there was something different about last night. In the past she had always called him to tell him that she was okay, and to also see what he was doing, but she never did that last night. Maybe she was busy; Tc didn’t think much of it afterwards. It was way past the time that Eve should’ve arrived home, and now Tc started getting worried. He called the hospital, but the doctor that was covering for her answered. Tc spoke with Doctor Philips, and then hung up the phone.

“Eve said she had to fly to New York to see her mother that was sick?” Tc said aloud to himself, “That doesn’t make sense…Eve’s mother has been dead for nine years now,” he stared off into space.

The next thing he did was dial the number to her cell phone. It rang twice. Eve didn’t bother looking at the caller ID and flipped open her phone…

“Hello?”

“Eve? Baby, where are you?”

“T-t-c!” Eve stuttered, “I-uh, I had a last minute medical conference that was going to just last a day,” she obviously lied.

“Ohh, I see,” he said quietly as he heard a shower running in the background, “Then I’ll be expecting you home later?”

“Yes, honey…as soon as I’m through here.”

“Okay, Eve,” his voice shook, “I’ll talk to you later.”

Eve heard the other end click and she hung up her phone. This was just getting too crazy. She couldn’t keep going on with this. She couldn’t keep doing this to Tc; he didn’t deserve it.

Tc hung up the phone on her nightstand, but ended up dropping the receiver on the floor. When he bent down to pick it up, he found the white handkerchief that belonged to Julian.

“What’s this?” he slanted his head as he unfolded it out in front of him, “Whose handkerchief is this?” Tc’s head straightened as he read the initials that were embroidered in a sky blue colored thread, “J-L-C?”

Tc then sniffed. He smelled something coming from the cloth, so he brought it closer to his nose, and when he smelled the scent of the cologne…a tear crept from his eye. He now had a better idea where Eve was…

Eve dressed herself and left Julian’s hotel suite before he even got out of the shower. She was going home…home to be with her husband, as she should have been doing all along.

“Eve, I’m all done in here,” Julian opened the door, “You can have it now if you’d like…” his voice trailed off as he found the room empty, “Eve?”
