The Jazz Club-Chapter Five

"Alastiar Crane?" Eve repeated. "What, what do you want?"
"You'll find out soon enough. Meet me in the alley behind that trashy night club you work at in one hour. Tell your boss you're sick and can't sing tonight. And you had better be there, or you will pay dearly."
As Eve was about the respond, she heard a click, and the sound of the droning dialtone.

Eve wrapped the coat that she wore around her slim body tighter as a strong wing blew. She was at the location that Alastiar Crane had told her to be at.
Alastiar Crane.
She knew it must have something to do with Julian. But how did he know about that? Unless Julian told him, she couldn't imagine how he found out.
Just then, a dark figure approached her. As he came into the light, he didn't waste anytime telling Eve what he had met her here for.
"Eve, I know about this little 'relationship' you've been having with Julian. Of course, he's been with his share of tramps, so I let him go about his business. That is, until, two little things came up. the first one is that I have arranged for Julian to get married tomorrow."
That took Eve by surprise. Married? What about her baby?
"The second thing, is that bastard child you concieved with my son."
Eve gasped and a lump started to form in her throat. "How do you know about that? I never told Julian about that!"
"Don't ask how I know, that is not of your concern. And no, you didn't tell Julian. But you were going to, weren't you, Eve? Tonight, you were going to tell him you were carrying his child."
Eve stood there, speechless. How could he possibly know all of this? "I-I-"
"Don't say anything Eve, I still have more to say. You will not tell Julian about the baby. He can never know, and even if he did, do you really think he would want it?" Alastiar saw the look of sadness rush over the woman's face and grinned. He needed to lower her self-asteem a tad so she would cooperate with his plan.
"I am going to personally put you through medical school to become a doctor. I will provide you with money, a place to live, food, clothes, and all medical school expenses. Your baby will have a good life, and no one will ever know the paternoty of this child. All you have to do is agree to my deal. If you don't, I will not hesitate to make your life a living hell. Deal?"
'Deal,' Eve thought. She made a deal with Julian before, and where had it gotten her?
But this time it was different. She had a clild. She couldn't do anything to harm her child.
"Deal."
"Listen, I know you have arranged to meet Julian tonight. I don't care if you have your fun with my son, just make sure he's out on his way to Harmony bu midnight. I'm meeting with him later to tell him some thing, including that, but knowing Julian he'll be thinking with the wrong part of his body.
"And by the way, it would have been better of you to choose a more trusted doctor to see if you were pregnant. You really have to be careful about who you trust with information like that." And he departed from the alley.
"Is there anything he doesn't know?" Eve asked herself.

Julian was about to go out for his night at the Jazz Club as the doorbell wrang. He went to open the door, and standing in front of him was his father.
"Father? What are you doing here?"
"I have to talk you for a minute. Aren't you going to invite me in?"
"Of course, of course," Julian said.
He stepped out of the way and Alastiar entered.
"I don't have time for chit chat Julian, I have something inportant to discuss with you.
"What is it?"
"Tonight, you will go back to Harmony to marry that Winthrop girl. Leave by midnight tonight, and break it off with any of those sluts you sleep around with.
The first thought that came to his mind was Eve. He was going to have to break it off with her. He didn't want to, but he had no choice. He couldn't disobey father.
"Whatever you say, father."
"Good. Leave by midnight. You know how important this merger is with the Winthrops. Don't mess up. Goodnight Julian."
Alastiar walked towards the door and made a hasty exit.
'Well, Eve, I guess this is the last time I'll see you," he said to no one in particular. And he left for his last night at the Boston Jazz Club.
