The Jazz Club-Chapter Six, The Final Chapter

As Eve sang her last set at the Jazz Club that night, her mind wasn't concentrated on the music or the lyrics. That night, her mind was on Julian Crane, the one man that could get to her.
She stole a quick glance at him before he noticed. Did he know that this would be their last night together? Alastiar had said that he would talk to Julian, and she guessed that involved him ending any relationships and getting back to Harmony as soon as possible to marry this Winthrop girl.
I bet this girl will never compare to me, Eve thought.
'Wait, Eve!' she said to herself. 'Don't think things like that, it makes you sound jealous. And you are not jealous.'
Or are you?' Eve used to think you just cared for Julian, but now she wasn't sure anymore. But it didn't matter what Eve feel about him. Whatever feelings she has for him, she would just have to forget about, because starting at midnight, Eve and Julian would be in the past.
Eve felt lost, because her world was about to turn upside down. Her usual routine with Julian was about to stop completely, and a stranger was about to put her through medical school. She was scared out of her mind, and her insides were knotting up.
Julian listened to Eve sing this night, and he noticed something different from all the other nights he had listened to her angelic voice. There was a hint of sadness in it. Did Eve know? Did she know that this would be their last night together?
No, she couldn't know. There was no one who would have told her but him, and he had only found out about an hour ago. He wondered what was bringing her down. Oh well, it didn't matter. He would never see her after tonight, what did it matter if she was sad, angered, or happy?
But it did matter. Why? Why did it matter? Did he love her? He used to think that was impossible, but now he wasn't sure. Did he just care for her, or did he love her? How could he ever be sure, if he had no idea what love felt like? He wanted to know. He deserved to know what he felt.
NO, he reminded himself. It doesn't matter, even if you did love Eve, it wouldn't matter because in a couple hours all that he had with her would be a memory.

Alastiar sat in his office once again, sipping a brandy, and congratulating himself on another job well done.
'Eve will never tell anyone about that damn bastard child, to protect it. Julian will come back to Harmony because he can't dare cross me.
And it is pure genius that TC Russel just happens to drop by the hospital almost every day that Eve will be training at. Oh, that was a good move. If she happens to run into TC, which he might have to arrange if came neccesary, than they would become good friends, if not more. This he was sure of because there were so many few black people at this certain hospital, and being in the state she was in, she might want to hang around her own kind.' Alastair let out a cold laugh. 'And if she were to become involved with TC, she would never tell anyone about her past with Julian, knowing how TC feels about Julian. Why, my son ended that man's tennis career!'

Eve and Julian walked into Eve's apartment, both knowing this would be thier last time together.
Standing in the living room, they glanced over eachother with more than lust in their eyes. Their hearts wanted to acknowledge that the other might love them, but their heads told them to do what they did every other night.
Julian approached Eve, and when he was centimeters from her face, he gently lowered his head and kissed her lips. His hands roamed all over her body, as Eve's fingers rifled through his hair. Julian caressed her back, and slowly unzipped the back of her dress and let it fall to the floor. Julian parted from her for a second to admire her beautiful body. He ran his hands down her sides and they rested on her panties. He slowly slid them off and went back to kissing her soft, swolled lips.
Eve started to hurriedly unbutton Julian's shirt, as Julian kissed his way down her neck. She slid the shirt off his shoulders and went to unzip his pants.
When Eve had succesfully undressed Julian, they did something different than what they did every other night. Usually, they would run as fast as they could to the bed and he would roughly throw her on. This night, he gently picked her up and walked her to the bed, kissing her the whole trip. He gently laid her down on the bed, and made love to her.

Julian groaned and slowly woke up. He didn't want to get up, because he didn't want to leave Eve. He glanced over at the clock and read the time.
11:30pm.
His father had wanted him to leave for Harmony at midnight, so he figured he'd better get back and make sure he had everything packed for his trip.
He got out of bed and dressed himself. He was about to walk out the door when he remembered Eve. He hadn't said goodbye.
He walked over to her side of the bed and knelt down. Not knowing what to say, he pressed his lips against her forehead and whispered, "Goodbye, Eve."
And he walked out the door, and out of her life.
