Sinner or Saint

This is a new Evian story I have decided to write, something quite different. Julian had abandoned Eve so many years ago, leaving her alone, hurt and heart broken. As the story goes, Eve met T.C. after Julian left her and she started a life with him and had two wonderful daughters on Passions. But what if she had never met T.C.? What if Eve’s life took a bit of a twist after Julian had left her? This is my story of what Eve’s life could have been like if T.C. had not been a part of it. Eve’s life had been shattered; she had loved Julian Crane with all of her heart. They had shared such a passionate love affair, creating a son who neither Eve nor Julian had had the chance to ever meet as their baby had died they had been told. Julian’s life had become one of partying, different women who he had bedded night after night; heavy drinking and many illegal acts in the years after Eve and him had been apart.

Eve, on the other hand, had gotten her life back on track; working hard to forget the pain Julian had caused her, by becoming one of Harmony’s most successful doctors, a life she had become so proud of. But in the process of studying to become the fine doctor she was, she had met Randy Warner. Randy had been a wonderful addition to her life, he had practically swept her off of her feet, being everything she ever wanted in a boyfriend, a lover, a best friend, he was a great listener and he loved Eve so very much. They worked very hard together, studying to become the best of the best in the medical field. They had so much in common and Randy made her forget all about Julian and the terrible things he did to break her heart. Randy asked her to marry him and she said yes and from an amazing love that they shared, two lovely daughters were created, Whitney and Simone.

Randy had taken a position outside of Harmony, as a prominent surgeon and Eve couldn’t be happier, she had never met anyone like him, she had never thought it was possible to love after Julian, but Randy completed her, he was everything to her and Eve was incredibly happy. She had told him of her past with Julian and Randy was of course not too keen on him as he had hurt his beautiful wife. Although she had told him about her past with Julian, she didn’t tell him about her son with him, knowing that he had died. She hated to lie to Randy, but it was hard enough to admit that Julian and her had been lovers. And he knew it hurt her to talk about it so he didn’t discuss it with Eve too often, he hated to upset her so.

One afternoon, Randy had stopped by on his break to see her; he had just finished up several surgeries and couldn’t wait to see his lovely Eve. She was sitting in her office, looking as beautiful as ever in his eyes and she smiled at her husband when she looked up at him, standing in the doorway. He was so handsome, like Denzel Washington in her eyes, but it didn’t matter what he looked like, the important thing was Randy was the whole package, inside and out.

“Hello sweetheart.” He said, greeting her with a sweet kiss.

“Hi Randy, you’re on a break I see.”

“Yes and you know when I am away from you Eve, I miss you so very much.”

She got up from her chair and he wrapped his arms around her, running her hands through his wavy hair, that was turning slightly gray, which he claimed he got from being a father. She laughed at him, Simone and Whitney were wonderful daughters, but he always joked with them, saying good thing neither of them were twins because then his hair would turn white.

“How’s your day going?” he asked, hugging her tightly.

“Fine Randy.

“Well let me take you out for lunch, how would you like that Eve?”

“I would love it.”

Randy waited for her to close her office door and when he put his arm around her as they walked down the hall, Eve turned to look at her husband and frowned when she saw Julian talking to Rebecca in the hallway. As Rebecca talked to Julian, he half listened to her, staring at Eve with a devilish smile right in front of her husband. Randy wasn’t too keen on the way he was looking at her and went over to him.

“You know Julian, I know you and Eve had a past, but I suggest you wipe that smile off of your face before I wipe it off for you permanently.” He said coldly.

“How do you know I was looking at Eve?” he asked innocently.

“Who else is beautiful enough to stare at around here, except Eve?” he said smiling.

“He was looking at me.” Rebecca said.

“Unless he has eyes in the back of his head, I doubt that, you two are quite the odd pairing.” Randy said.

“Hardly, we are as exciting as the next couple.” Julian said.

“I think you have had too many drinks today Julian, you wouldn’t know what real excitement is, unlike Eve and I, life isn’t all about sex.”

“No it’s not Randy, but it’s sure damn fun.” Rebecca said, throwing her arms around Julian.

Rebecca tugged on Julian’s suit jacket, to get going. Julian made eye contact with Eve once again, his eyes locked with hers for what seemed like forever, until Eve turned to look away from him. She could hardly look at him anymore, Julian made her nervous, awkward, everything she didn’t want to be, but it was just the way it was when he was around her. When she walked by him, Julian put out his hand to brush his fingers with hers when he noticed that Randy didn’t see. Eve pulled away quickly; Julian could be so bold and now was no exception. But Julian grabbed her hand again, whispering into her ear. Eve just stared at him, speechless.

“What did he say to you? Do you want me to kill him now or after our lunch?” Randy asked.

“Nothing.” Eve said simply.

The truth is, she didn’t want to tell him, as she hated to see any kind of violence. Not that Randy was that way, but he was sure to defend his wife when it counted, especially when it concerned Julian. He had never really hurt Julian, but had gotten in a few punches with him when he tried to get fresh with her in the past. Randy had accepted that her and Julian had been lovers; he also knew that it wasn’t Eve’s fault that he had left her and he promised Eve he would be the best husband he could ever be as well as the best father. While they had their lunch, Eve was in another world, thinking about the comment that Julian had made. “I still love you.” He whispered against her hair. Julian had always said he wanted her from time to time and she knew that was just little Julian out to play, but using the word love this time, she couldn’t get it out of her head. She hated to think about it as well, she loved Randy now, not Julian.

“Honey, are you okay? Are you sure Julian didn’t say something to upset you?”

“Randy, I am fine, don’t worry.” She said, lying through her teeth.

She had always wanted to be honest with Randy, not telling him about their son, well, she just didn’t see a need for it. It wasn’t like their son was alive, their baby was a part of their past just as much as their relationship was. But it didn’t mean Eve would forget their son, he was created from a love that she thought stood the test of time. But regardless, she loved that baby as much as her girls and would have been the best mother to him even if Julian were the baby’s deadbeat father.

“You look quite sad, what can I do for you?” he said, taking Eve’s hands.

“Nothing Randy, but thank you for being so concerned.”

“Eve, I love you, you are my heart, I would do anything for you.” He said, smiling at her.

“I know you would.”

When they finished their lunch, Randy kissed his wife goodbye, not knowing that Julian stood around the corner, watching Eve intently. When Randy walked away from the door, Julian opened it and Eve just looked at him.

“What do you want?” she asked.

“I wanted to say hello.”

“Hello Julian?”

“Yes Eve, is there anything wrong with that?”

“Saying hi is not what you said before.”

“Oh about that, I’m sorry Eve, I just got carried away, admiring your incredible and stunning beauty, but it’s true, I still do love you.” He said, placing his hands on the end of her desk.

“Don’t say that, I am married, and I don’t appreciate you stalking me!” she said, raising her voice.

“Stalking, hardly.” He said laughing.

“What would you call it?” she said, crossing her arms.

“I just think you’re beautiful and I miss you.”

“Too late Julian, the past is the past and I have moved on.”

“I know you have, you have children, you have a husband, but I still want to be with you.”

“You can only be with Rebecca and those other tramps out there, I hate to think how many women have occupied your thoughts after I was a part of your life.” Eve said.

“I haven’t been with that many women you know.”

“Yes and I just turned twenty-one, get off your high horse and get real.” Eve said, moving his hands away from her desk.

“Eve, I don’t want to fight with you, but I must admit, you are incredibly sexy when you are angry.” He said smiling.

“Julian, I am not one of your bed mates, so don’t try to use the Crane charm on me, I fell for that once and look what it gave me, nothing but headaches and heartaches.”

“Eve, can’t we be friends?” he asked, trying to be serious.

“Friends Julian, never!”

“Why?”

“Would you please get out of my office, I have work to do and I don’t have time to deal with your daily golly .”

“I do miss you so much.”

“Well then miss me from afar, now go!” she said, pointing to the door.

“I am being quite serious, I know what I have done and I know that Randy knows about us, but what about our child Eve?”

“What about him?”

“Does he know about our son?”

She looked away, unable to answer him.

“You never told him?” he said, very astonished.

“No, what was the point? Our baby is dead Julian.”

“I know that, but you should still have told him about our son. But then, maybe he’s not dead.”

“What are you talking about?” Eve asked.

“Maybe he didn’t die, Eve what if our son is alive?” Julian said, moving closer to her, sitting on the edge of the desk.

“Now you are talking crazy, what did Rebecca put in your latest drink?”

“Think about it, what if he was really alive?”

“Why are you saying this, do you know something I don’t?” Eve asked.

“No, not as of yet, but you just never know these days, our baby boy, he could be out there, all grown up, beautiful, just like his mother.”

“You have never cared about any of your other kids, so why is our son different?”

“Because he’s a part of you, he’s a part of our love Eve, you are the only woman I have ever loved.”

“You could have fooled me, you left me.”

“I know and I’m sorry.” Julian said, touching her cheek.

She pushed his hand away, her eyes, as cold as ice, knowing she shouldn’t be having this discussion with Julian. She hated to think of the past, she had definitely moved on.

“Don’t be angry with me Eve, I know I am a bastard.”

“That’s a kind word for you.”

“True.” Julian said.

“You are more than a bastard, but you know what, I am not getting into this, you are no longer a part of my life, you mean nothing to me anymore Julian.”

He took her by the hand to help her up from the chair, taking her into his arms.

“What are you doing, let go of me!” she demanded.

“Not so fast, how does it make you feel when I hold you in my arms? Do you remember what it was like? How much we loved one another?”

“No!” she said angrily.

“Yes you do, I can see it in your eyes.”

“The only thing you are going to see in a minute is stars when I make you sing soprano if you don’t let go of me.”

“Fine.” He said, moving away from her.

“Now go please.”

He opened the door, but turned to look at her for one more moment.

“Eve?”

“What Julian?”

“I am really sorry for the pain I caused you.”

“Yeah, well, what’s done is done.”

“Yes.” He said sadly.

When Julian shut the door, Eve sat at her desk, sighing heavily. Why did Julian have to be around? Sometimes she wished she had truly made a fresh start and left Harmony, it might have been a better choice in life. But then again, she loved her job, Randy loved his and her girls were happy in Harmony. When there was a knock at the door, Eve opened it quickly, with anger in her eyes, wondering if Julian was coming back to annoy her, but her expression softened when she saw Whitney.

“Mom, what’s wrong, you look upset.”

“I’m okay honey.”

“Well good, mom, I just wanted to see how your day was.”

“What are you doing here at the hospital?”

“I just wanted to tell you that I have a tournament tomorrow, can you make it?”

“I am not sure, but maybe your dad can, let me ask him.”

Whitney sat there, waiting patiently as Eve called him. When she hung up, she smiled at her daughter.

“He will be there, as long as he isn’t busy.”

“Great, and mom?”

“Yes Whitney?”

“When you come home tonight, I want to talk to you about something.”

“Of course.”

Whitney kissed her mom and was on her way. Eve started back on her rounds and she wasn’t paying attention, bumping right into Julian once again.

“God, can you not get a life?” she yelled, drawing attention to herself,

“First of all, keep your voice down and for your information, I was just leaving.” He said, irritated.

“Well I hope so, I hate to call security, because I will if I have to.” Eve said, firmly.

“Look this is a free country and I don’t need your permission to be at this hospital.”

“Why are you here anyway?”

“I was having a test done.” He said.

“Oh I can just imagine, you would need one with all of those women you have been with.” She said, staring at him.

“Excuse me, you are getting quite personal aren’t you Eve?”

Eve knew she had overstepped her bounds with that comment, even if it was true. She didn’t have the right to come down on him like that; although there were times he deserved it. She still had bitterness towards him after all of these years and she could tend to get oversensitive at times and lash out.

“You’re right Julian, I don’t mean to pry.”

“If you must know, I am suffering from gall stones.”

“Julian, I’m sorry.”

“Yeah, well they are running tests because I have been in a lot of pain, and no it’s not from having too much sex.” He said, looking at Eve intently.

“Well, I didn’t need to know one way or the other.” She said, smiling.

“I love when you smile, you’re more stunning than ever when you do.”

“Julian, we aren’t talking about my smile right now, we are talking about you having tests, I don’t wish you ill, I do hope everything works out.”

“Well thank you Eve, I appreciate it.”

She said goodbye to him, and he was quick to grab her hand once again.

“Yes?”

“Come with me.”

“Julian, I have work to do.”

But he didn’t listen and took her out of sight of anyone and kissed her firmly on the mouth to her surprise.

“Julian, you can’t do that, I am married.”

“I just wanted to say thank you.”

“After I accused you of having tests for reasons other than what you’re really here for?”

“Never mind that, you’re right, I have been with more than a few women, but truthfully I am here for tests for real. Thank you for being you Eve.”

“Oh Julian, you mustn’t give me such compliments, it’s just not right.”

“What Randy doesn’t know, won’t hurt him.”

“But I know, that’s bad enough, now don’t kiss me again, okay?”

He sighed and nodded, letting her get back to work.

“If Randy catches him trying anything like that again, I am afraid Julian will be banned from the hospital or Harmony if he has anything to say about it.” She said to herself.

When Julian returned to the mansion, Rebecca was laying there, her body covered in only one thing, whip cream. She shook the can, wanting Julian to cover her with more before removing it and when he walked right by her, she pouted.

“Pookie, I am ready to be licked and you didn’t even notice me.”

“That’s nice my pet.” He said, patting her head.

“Hello, earth to little Julian?” she said, tugging on his zipper.

“Um, not now okay, I have a call to make.”

“That’s no excuse, the whip cream is going to melt if you don’t hurry up and…well you know.” She said, trying to pose sexy for him.

“Yeah whatever.”

She was quite insulted when he kept on walking. He poured glass after glass of booze and when Rebecca had bathed and come into the office in her robe, Julian was pretty much far-gone, the buzz hitting him quite hard then.

“Hey baby.” He said, smiling.

“Don’t hey baby me, you had your chance, I don’t want drunken sex.”

“That’s never stopped you before.” He said, pulling on the strings of her robe.

“Never mind Julian, I am going upstairs.”

He was quite relived really and poured a few more, swallowing them as quickly as he poured them until he passed out in the chair. When he came to, he shook his head, not knowing where he was at that moment, but the puddle of drool on his shirt, proved he was out for quite a while.

“Damn, they are going to put me in the home if I keep this up.” He said, poking fun at himself.

He looked at the clock; it was nearly seven in the morning, proving, too many drinks were not good. He was sure Rebecca would kill him for not coming to bed, but he thought what the hell, she would be fine. When he rubbed his eyes for a moment and felt a sudden slight nausea from so many drinks, Rebecca stepped on his foot quite hard, startling him.

“What the hell?”

“That will teach you for getting so drunk and turning me down.”

“You don’t have to get even with that clown foot of yours.”

“Shut up Pookie, now go and take a shower, you stink.”

“I do not!”

“You reek of booze and whatever else, just go and shower please or I will put you out with the trash.” She said, her hands on her hips.

“I am insulted.” He said.

“You will be more than insulted if you don’t get off that ass of yours, now go!” she yelled.

“Keep your voice down, I am in the same room, not half way across the world. Besides my head is just pounding.”

“Good.” She said, with no sympathy whatsoever.
