“What are you doing here?” she said, removing his hand quickly.

“Same thing you are, getting some dinner.”

“Go away Julian, Randy will be here any minute, he just went over to the store.”

“How are you?” he said, running his mouth along her neck.

“I said go.”

“I can’t, I’m waiting for my food.”

“Well stand over there then, or Randy is sure to make a chicken ball out of you if he sees you when he comes in.”

“Okay.”

“Oh and by the way?”

Julian turned around to look at her.

“Randy is not interested in Janesta, I told him you mentioned her.”

“What?”

“Yes Julian, when I said you were over at our place.”

“Eve, are you crazy?” he said, shocked.

“I love my husband, we have no secrets.” Eve said, proudly.

“You have the one about our son.”

People looked at both of them and she went over to him.

“Don’t talk like that in front of prying eyes, Harmony is a small town.” Eve said.

“Well, well, well.”

Eve turned around to see Randy standing there.

“Is the little maggot bothering you again Eve?”

“No Randy.”

“Why don’t you take a long walk off a short pier Julian?”

“Excuse me?”

“You heard me, and you may have been sick today, but don’t come by our house ever again, you’re not welcome.” Randy said firmly.

Eve wasn’t too keen on her husband getting verbal, but it was better than getting violent with him. The man handed Randy the take out bag and she stared at Julian on the way out, he smiled at Eve, who didn’t return it.

“I know she still wants me.” He said to himself.

Julian then paid for the food and Rebecca grabbed it out of his hand when she sat down in the car.

“Relax, can you at least wait until we get home woman?”

“I’m starving.”

“No kidding, perhaps when I stop by the liquor store to get a bottle of scotch, you can go into the pet store and buy a bag of kibble.” He said laughing.

“Shut up smart ass, or you won’t get any dinner.”

“What’s the difference, by time I get it home, there won’t be anything left, the way you are devouring it now.”

Julian stopped in the store, picking out his bottle of scotch and deciding what else would be good for the night. When Eve entered the store a few minutes later, she just rolled her eyes at him.

“Isn’t it funny how we keep running into each other?” he said smiling.

“I think you’re purposely planning it, I only have a moment, I am picking up a few coolers for tonight.”

“Oh I see Eve, planning on getting lucky?”

She just looked at him in disgust.

“First of all, I don’t need drinks to make that happen so get over the idea of it.”

“I will, but I just can’t get over the idea of you in my bed.” He said, picking out a bottle of gin.

“I wish you would stop saying such things Julian, I hate when you’re like this.”

“I’m just having a bit of fun, I told you I still love you and I meant it Eve, truly.”

“I have to go, Randy is waiting in the car.” She said.

“Aren’t you forgetting your drinks?”

“What?”

She had placed them on the floor and shook her head, when she had forgotten so quickly.

“Eve?”

“Yes?”

“Look at this.” He said picking up a bottle of creamy liqueur.

“What about it?”

“You used to love this, I remember pouring it on your body and licking it off, you tasted so good.” He said, smiling devilishly.

“Stop it Julian, good bye.”

He laughed when she left the store, he didn’t mean to make such comments, but he know he got under her skin, teasing her like that, and he knew underneath that tough exterior with him was that innocent and loving singer he met in Boston so many years ago. The woman he loved dearly, the hot nights of passion, combined with lust and true love, their days and nights together were hotter than hell. When she got into the car, she had a worried look upon her face, and as Randy went to ask, he noticed Julian coming out with a bag of booze.

“Not again honey, stay here, I will straighten him out this time.”

“No Randy, it’s okay, I’m fine, let’s just go.” Eve said touching his arm.

“Okay then, if you say so Eve.”

When Rebecca and Julian returned to the mansion, he ate what was left of the remaining food and started in on the glasses of hard liquor, ready for a carefree night.

“Don’t get too drunk this time, I want sex.” Rebecca said, quite firmly.

“If I’m up for it, we will see.” He said, accidentally knocking the glass with the bottle.

“Well you better quit while you are ahead, you’re half in the bag now.”

“Nah, I’m just getting started, now go find something to do.” He said, putting up his feet on the couch.

“Don’t tell me what to do.”

“Someone has to, now get lost, I want to be alone with my baby.” He said stroking the bottle of scotch.

“Oh please.” She said, going upstairs.

Julian was trying to change for the better and had been genuine with Eve about that, but giving up drinking was another thing. Perhaps he could cut down, but not just yet, he enjoyed the drink and would savour every last drop of it as it went down his throat. His mind turned to thoughts of Eve once again, sometimes he drowned his sorrows into drinking, but at least upon this night, he was happy, seeing her more often than usual.

“She is so lovely, I can’t get enough of her, Eve is like a good addiction, one I need more and more in my life, who captures my every thought.” He said taking a drink.

“To whom are you talking to?” Rebecca asked.

“No one.”

“Mumbling about someone stupid as usual I see.”

“She is not stupid!” he yelled, his eyes full of fury.

“Holy cow, take a downer Pookie and she’s not stupid you say, I have hit a nerve, what woman occupies that sex crazed mind of yours now besides yours truly.” She said crossing her arms.

“Never mind, get out!”

“You’re lusting after someone pretty special I guess, who is it?”

“Just get out I told you, leave me alone.”

“Fine, but when you’re finished your horny thoughts about this woman, come and find me so we can live out the fantasy.”

“Go!” he said, throwing a cushion at her, hitting her in the face.

“Julian!” she yelled.

“Sorry.”

The next day Eve returned to work and Julian decided to take a drive outside of town to where Randy worked. He had the sneaking suspicion that Janesta and him were doing more than helping patients. He couldn’t help but hope in some ways that he was, not because he wanted to hurt Eve anymore, but because in all honesty he was selfish and wanted her all to himself. He sat in a chair, next to a few patients waiting to be seen when he noticed Janesta come up to the desk, getting some files from the cabinet. When she bent over, Julian cleared his throat, trying to contain himself from letting out a whistle, he was only human. She was indeed good looking, long wavy red hair, creamy porcelain like skin and the greenest eyes he had ever seen. If Randy wasn’t doing anything with her, then guaranteed someone was. One of the doctors came over to her and touched the small of her back, almost squeezing it with his strong hand and smiling at her. He wondered if that could be one of the doctors she was hitting the sheets with. Randy was nowhere to be found and he was just about to leave when he spotted him. Julian hid as much out of sight as he could, he felt like a private detective.

“Nurse Wilks, do you have a minute?” Randy asked.

“Of course Dr. Warner, I always have time for you.” She said smiling.

“Hmmm.” Julian said to himself.

They left the area and Julian wondered if they had gone back to his office. He couldn’t exactly follow him, but waited a while and when they both returned to the area, they were both getting ready to leave, assuming they were off for the day. Julian noticed that Janesta’s hair was a bit messed up a bit.

“It’s windy out there today isn’t it Nurse Wilks?” another nurse said.

“Yes it is actually, I just stepped out for a moment and look at my hair now, like a bird’s nest.” She said laughing.

“Oh it’s lovely no matter what.” Randy said, his hand, moving up and down her back.

Julian wondered how truthful that statement was, and he sensed Randy was being a bit too friendly for their doctor/nurse relationship. They stepped away from the desk and when they headed to their cars. Randy said goodbye to her and walked away to get in his own car.

“Damn, maybe Eve was right, perhaps he is a good boy after all.”

But then to his surprise, Janesta called him back over to her car and he got into the passenger side to talk to her. He shrugged his shoulders, figuring she had forgotten to tell him something but Julian’s eyes widened when he noticed Randy lean over to kiss her.

“That rat!” he said out loud.

“Who’s a rat?” an elderly lady said to Julian as she walked by.

“No one.”

“I hate rats, you know they are a menace to society, any rodent is, hamsters, mice, gerbils.”

The lady went on and on and Julian was dying to tell her to put a sock in it, but he just nodded as if he was listening. Randy stayed in the car with her for quite a while and when he got out, his shirt was rather disheveled, his tie on an angle. Julian knew damn well they weren’t discussing their work schedule.

“I knew he was cheating on Eve.” He said shaking his head.

“Do you know how many rats I have had in my place over the years? I can’t even begin to tell you.”

“Lady, call the exterminator.” Julian said bluntly.

“Do you know of a good one?” she said loudly as Julian walked away.

He ignored her and dialed Eve’s number as he walked briskly to his car.

“Hello?”

“Your husband is a liar.”

“Julian, what do you want?”

“Randy, he’s a liar, I just saw him kissing Janesta in her car.”

“Julian what did I tell you about accusing my husband of such things? Randy loves me, bottom line.”

“But Eve…”

“Shut up, do you hear me?”

“Eve, I’m telling you the truth, I witnessed them with my own eyes.”

“So they kissed, big deal Julian.”

“Eve, they kissed, hello, that is a sign of cheating.”

“Maybe they were just being friendly.”

“With his freaking tie and shirt all over the place? I saw them kissing, I swear.”

“Kissing while you are obviously drunk!”

“I’m sober, honestly Eve.”

“I don’t care what you are, how dare you call my husband a liar when you know damn well that you wanted to sleep with me and have me cheat on him? Don’t you dare justify that as okay, but come down on my husband for a kiss. I know Randy loves me and that’s that.”

“It’s different with us Eve.”

“Having sex with you is not different, that’s cheating and I will never betray Randy.”

“What about the kiss?”

“I don’t care, I know he would never sleep with her, he loves me, I can’t believe I almost considered sleeping with you, how could I be so stupid?”

“You wanted to sleep with me?” Julian said, surprised.

“Never mind, don’t call me, talk to me, visit me, go to hell Julian!”

“But Eve, I..”

But she slammed down the phone and he listened to the dial tone for a moment before pressing the hang up button.

“God I hate that man, ugh, maybe it’s time I did consider moving away from Harmony, how dare he call Randy a liar!”

Eve sat on the sofa, tears running down her face, she couldn’t believe what nerve Julian had and the fact that he was obviously spying on her husband that was the limit. Randy was right, Julian was nothing but an ass and she knew it all along. For one brief moment, one glimmer of hope, she thought maybe Julian was changing for the better, but to spy on Randy, this took the cake. Randy opened the door and when he saw Eve crying, he took her in his arms, holding her tightly. She couldn’t stop the tears from flowing down her cheeks and he was soon wearing mascara on his dress shirt.

“Baby, what is it?” he said wiping her tears.

“Julian, Julian Crane.” She said, putting her fist against his chest.

“What did he do now sweetheart?”

“He spied on you and saw you kissing Janesta in her car.”

Randy felt his heart skip a beat.

“Eve, let me explain, you see..”

“No need, I know it was just a kiss, something innocent, were you saying goodbye or something?”

“It’s her birthday Eve, I was giving her a birthday kiss, don’t listen to Julian, he’s full of golly .”

“He’s the biggest jerk, I know you love me Randy, you love me with all of your heart, and our girls, our marriage is so sacred.”

“Yes it is, Eve, nothing happened, I am telling you the truth.” He said, looking into her eyes.

“I believe you.” She said hugging him.

Julian sat in the car, still in shock that Eve had hung up on him. He didn’t mean to just blurt out about the kiss, but he believed in telling the truth, being bold and blunt were two of his traits, even if they did get him into trouble a lot. He knew she was just in denial, she wanted to believe that it was only a kiss, that it meant nothing, she didn’t want to get hurt by anyone else after him and Julian understood that. He also knew that sleeping with her was cheating, but Eve was wrong, what they had was more than what she had with Randy, even if they were at odds at the very moment. The love that they shared was far too passionate for words and he had screwed everything up. For if he hadn’t, they would be lovers, best friends, husband and wife. When Julian wanted something, he went for it, even when it was the biggest challenge of his life. He just had to convince Eve that they were right for one another. Randy belonged with Janesta, or so he thought, it was his gut feeling and his gut was always right. He knew Randy did love Eve; there was no doubt that he did, but he did have a wandering lust, even if he couldn’t bring himself to admit it to Eve. Randy had been the perfect husband, all they needed was the picket fence and life was grand, but he was also human like Julian, and they both had needs and wanted to pursue them. Julian would rather Eve go with him and let her be happy, he was even willing to tell Randy that he still loved her if he would only be with Janesta. Randy just had to realize that he wanted his nurse. Randy comforted his wife in more ways than one that night, proving his love for her. But when Julian ran into him the next day on the street, he had a few choice words for him.

“Admit you love Janesta.”

“Shut up Crane, I’m not interested in hearing anything you have to say, in fact, I am going to sew that mouth shut of yours. How dare you upset Eve like you did? She trusts me and it was a simple kiss, you can’t just assume the worst about me when you don’t know the truth.”

“I saw you kiss her Randy and it looked pretty hot.”

“Yeah looked, it was her birthday Julian.”

“Sure it was and I’m an angel.” He said laughing.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about, you’re playing with fire Julian.”

“No you are, come clean with your wife, tell her you have a thing for your nurse, be a man Randy.”

“Me, look who’s talking about being a man, you’re the one who left her remember?”

“Yeah and I know the regrets I live with every day, I’m sorry I hurt Eve, I really am, I love her and still do.”

“If you love her, leave her alone, let her live her life she has now.” Randy said.

“You don’t know what kind of life we had, we were very much in love.”

“I know that, that is why it hurts Eve so much that you broke her heart Julian.”

“I know what I did, I’m a bastard, but I still love your wife and I would have been with her if I had not made the mistakes I did.”

“But you did Julian and you can’t have her now, she is my heart.” Randy said.

“No Randy, she’s my heart, like I said, you may love her, but you are lusting for your nurse.”

“I don’t love Janesta like you think I do, besides, you are lusting after my wife.”

“Of course I am, because we belong together, you’re not her soul mate Randy, I am.” Julian said, running his fingers through his hair.

“I don’t want Janesta, it was a simple kiss, that’s all.”

“A kiss is a peck on the cheek, what you did was a full blown make out session, I am sure you had to wipe off the lipstick before coming home to Eve, perhaps wash up to get rid of her perfume on your body?” he said smiling.

“We weren’t in the car that long Julian.”

“Come on Randy, let’s be realistic, it doesn’t take long to cop a feel now does it?”

“You’re a pig.”

“No, I am a man and so are you and we all know what can happen when we have an opportunity with a beautiful woman.” Julian said.

“I love my wife!” he yelled.

“I know you do, but you lust for Janesta.”

“Shut up, leave me alone, leave Eve alone, and don’t come near us again.” Randy said.

“Are you afraid of the truth Randy? Is that why you can’t look me in the eyes?”

“I don’t owe you a damn thing Julian, so screw off!”

“Hey, you’re only going to end up hurting Eve and you just said you don’t want that, so think about it, tell her the truth about your nurse and be done with it, so I can be with Eve.”

“Never Julian, you will never have my wife.”

“Don’t say never, but if you’re going to have your cake and eat it too, you just better be careful you don’t get caught.”

“You’re just as bad, you wanted Eve too, probably behind my back.”

“Even if I did, I would have come clean about it and now I am telling you that I want her, loud and clear.”

“She loves me, not you.” He said walking away from Julian.

A month passed and Eve was more in love with her husband than ever, Julian and her never spoke since their fight on the phone that day. She didn’t worry about him going to work with Janesta as his nurse, she trusted Randy completely and she was never happier. Julian left her alone, not wanting to upset Eve anymore, but he wondered how long it would take for her to realize that her husband was not so perfect. Eve was working one day and was in a hurry when she knocked Julian right off of his feet.

“Sorry.”

“It’s okay Eve, no problem, I’m fine.” He said, standing up and brushing himself off.

“Well, I have to go now.”

“Eve?”

“Yeah?”

“How are you?”

“Never better and you?”

“Okay, have a nice day.” He said smiling.

“Yeah, bye.”

Eve could barely look at him, it had been a while since they had spoken, but she wasn’t sorry about it one bit. Julian pried so much into her life and it was just too much for her at that point. She was Dr. Warner and was proud to carry that name. Eve quickly hurried on to do her rounds and when she came home that evening, she couldn’t wait to take a nice hot bath, her feet were sore, it had been a stressful day. She went into the bedroom and took off her work clothes, putting on her baby blue silk robe, searching through a shopping bag, from some recent bath accessories she had just purchased. She found the lavender scented package of bath salts and opened it, taking in the invigorating scent.

“This will be great, so relaxing.” She said smiling.

When she opened the bathroom door, she heard the shower running.

“Oh my hubby’s home, I thought he was working later on.” She said, looking around the bathroom that had a layer of steam hanging throughout it. She didn’t see his car, so she was surprised.

She removed her robe, planning then on joining him, forgoing the bath for another day.

“Randy, this is a quite the surprise, I knew you were working today but..”
