ACT THREE – CHAPTER EIGHT

Disclaimer: I do not owe the song in this fic, that right goes to Paula Abdul.

A few months passed after that night at the hospital. Everyone involved tried to go back to the way things used to be before all of this started, but they were failing miserably. Julian for one, couldn’t get any of his work did correctly and it was affecting his job performance. He would always snap at people around the office who he felt looked at him wrong, and this situation had affected his friendship with Ivy and Daniel as well. No longer were they hanging out together like before, they were now so disgusted with one another that whenever they were in the same room, all hell would break loose.

Eve was also having difficulty at work. She had been so stressed out at one point, that when she was operating on one of her patients, she nearly killed them when she sniped the wrong artery. Luckily one of her colleagues told her what she did wrong and she hurried and corrected her mistake. After nearly killing someone that day, she immediately took some time off and placed one of her other colleagues in charge, while she was away.

Also since that night, TC had lost three of his next five matches and was suspended for two months because after one of his loses, he attacked a fan who had the nerve to call him a menace to society. Shortly after, he decided he needed to get some help with his temper and checked himself into an anger management class at the rec.

Now that Eve had time to reflect on the events of the last few months, she was back to work and making her rounds around the hospital, when her pager went off. She hurried over to the nearest nurse’s station and dialed the numbers that appeared on her pager.

“Hello, Dr. Eve Johnson.”

“Dr. Johnson, this is Dr. Michaels calling. I heard that you were away for a while recently and I was told that I couldn’t reach you at the time.”

“Yes, I’m sorry. I was going through a difficult time in my life back then, but now everything is settled and I’m back to work.”

“That’s good to here. Listen, since you missed the last medical conference in Florida a while back. It is important that you make to the next one coming up in two days here in Los Angeles.”

“I see. Don’t worry, I will definitely be there, you have my word.”

“Great. I’m see you soon.”

“Yes. Goodbye Dr. Michaels.” She was about hang up the phone when Dr. Michaels said something else.

“Eve wait, before I forget, you need to come with your second in command also.”

“Alright, I’ll tell her.” And with that, she placed the phone back down and went back to her rounds.

Two days later, Eve was standing inside the airport terminal with Grace as she waited for her flight to get ready.

“Eve, do you have to go so soon?”

“Yeah, I do. I missed that last conference because I was with Julian. I can’t miss this one.”

“So how long are you gonna be gone?”

“A few days at the most. I just want to hurry and get this over with.” She said as she turned and saw TC standing a few feet from the two of them.

Grace followed Eve’s eyes and a frown instantly appeared on her face as she saw Sam running towards her.

“Eve you take care and call me when you get back.” She said then gave her a quick hug before walking pass TC and straight to Sam.

“Grace, what’s wrong?” Sam said as he looked at her face closely.

“Where’s Julian?” she hissed. “Did you even remember to call him?”

“Yeah I called him, and left a message with a friend of his.”

Grace noticeably sighed, then grabbed Sam by the collar of his shirt, and dragged him out of the terminal. After the two of them were gone, that just left Eve and TC. They hadn’t seen each other since that night and it was kind of awkward for the two of them. TC decided that he would break the silence.

“Since you’ll be in Los Angeles for the next few days, I’m here to let you know that I’ll be going there too, since my last tennis match of the year is being held there. And maybe after you’re finished with whatever you’re doing there, we can finally be together.”

Eve, whose back was turned towards him as she looked out the window of the terminal, looked at his reflection in the window and thought he had went and lost his everlasting mind. But she continued to observe him carefully and listen to the rest of his words.

“I love you Eve, I’ve always loved you. You’re the reason my life has meaning. The only reason my life has meaning, I guess.” TC said softly as he walked up to her and pressed his hand into hers.

“I don’t know what to say.” Eve answered truthfully as TC removed his hands from hers leaving a CD behind.

“I want you to take this. It’s my good luck charm. I want you to keep this and know that I’ll be with you soon.”

Eve looked at him then looked passed him and noticed that her flight was boarding up. She then placed the CD into her carrying bag and walked passed him to get the rest of her stuff.

“I’m flattered TC, but I’m just not ready for any thing like that yet.” She paused and looked him in his eyes again. “I have to go.”

“I see.” He whispered and watched as Eve gathered up her belongings and headed towards the gate her flight would be loading up at.

Meanwhile at the Donaldson Building, Julian was sitting behind his desk working on a project that was due at the end of the day, when Ivy walked into his office.

“Julian I need to talk to you.”

“Not now Ivy, I have to get this project done now. I only have until the end of today.” He said to her as he continued working.

“A friend of yours called here for you about two hours ago. He wanted me to tell you that Eve was heading to Los Angeles later on this afternoon.” She said and watched as he lifted his head up and met her face to face.

“What?!”

“She should already be gone by now.”

“Why are you telling me this now?!” he shouted at her.

“I know it was wrong and I’m sorry.” Ivy whispered then dropped her head.

“You shouldn’t have done that. I should’ve been there with her.” Julian said with pain evident in his voice.

“I know.”

Julian put his pen down, then got up from behind his desk and walked over towards the window and looked out. He needed to see Eve again and tell her how sorry he was for leaving her yet again. He then lowered his head down against the window, as a single tear fell from his eye.

As Eve got comfortable in her seat next to the window of the airplane, she pulled out her CD player and put on the CD that TC gave her.

You’re the whisper of a summer breeze
You’re the kiss that puts my soul at ease
What I’m saying is
I’m in to you
Here’s my story, and the story goes

You give love, you get love and more than heaven knows
You’re gonna see
I’m gonna run, I’m gonna try
I’m gonna take this love right to ya
All my heart, all my love
Oh baby, oh baby please

[chorus:]

Rush, Rush
Hurry, hurry lover, come to me
Rush, Rush
I wanna see, I wanna see ya get free with me
Rush, Rush
I can feel it, I can feel you all through me
Rush, Rush
Ooh what you do to me

And all I want from you is what you are
And even if you’re right next to me
You’re still too far away if I’m not inside your arms
I get dramatic baby, yes I know
But I need you, I want you
Ooh man, I love you so

Ooh, Ooh

You’re gonna see
I’m gonna run, I’m gonna try
I’m gonna take this love
Right to ya
All my heart, all my joy
Ooh baby, baby please

[chorus x2]

When you kiss me up and down
Turn my senses all around
Oh baby, oh baby

I don’t know just how or why
But no one else has touched me
So deep, so deep
So deep inside

You’re gonna see
I’m gonna run
I’m gonna try
I’m gonna take this right to ya

All my heart, all the joy
Oh baby, baby please

[chorus]

As Eve listened to the words of the song, tears started falling down here face as she remembered this was the song that she loved to sing when she was younger.

For the next two days after learning that Eve had left and went to Los Angeles, Julian couldn’t eat and he couldn’t sleep. He never realized how much he missed Eve until she was gone. This must’ve been how she felt when he left her ten years ago.

Julian stood up from his bed, wearing just a pair of boxers and walked over to the window. As he looked out, images of Eve flashed before him. Her beautiful brown eyes, her long dark hair, and her gorgeous face. He wanted so badly to reach out and touch her, but knew he couldn’t because he knew that once he touched the window, she would disappear.

The next day was a board meeting at work, and Julian just didn’t feel like being in a room with TC again but he had too. And as usual, the meeting was down right boring. As everyone was talking to each other, Julian’s mind was elsewhere. Ivy noticed the way Julian was looking and felt bad because she was the one who had caused him this pain. She suddenly placed her hand over his and watched as he focused his eyes on her before speaking.

“It was never my intention to hurt you Julian and what I did was wrong. You don’t know how many times I wish I hadn’t did what I did. You love her, I can see it in your eyes.” Ivy said in a somber voice.

“I do love her Ivy, and I want her to know that.” Julian whispered with pain in his voice then dropped his head.

“Then go after her… right now.”

Julian instantly looked up at her face to see if she was joking.

“I can’t… what about…”

“Forget about everyone here, I’ll handle everything. Just go and be with the woman you love.” Ivy squeezed his hand then smiled at him.

Julian squeezed her hand back then got up from behind his chair and ran out of the conference room leaving behind a lot of confused faces in the process.

TC had overheard the conversation between Ivy and Julian and was fuming inside. There was no way in hell that Julian was gonna have Eve, he wasn’t gonna let that happen. He got from behind his desk also and ran out of the room as well. Everyone in the conference room didn’t know what to think of this.

Twenty minutes later, Julian was back home packing a few things for his trip back to Los Angeles unaware that TC was doing the same thing too.
