Blast from the Past

Ivy kissed Julian’s cheek and smiled. "So is everything ready? We’re really going to do this?"
Julian nodded. "My sexy little flower I believe we are almost set."
Ivy laughed. " Months ago I would have slapped you for a comment like that, but now Julian, now it makes me smile."
"Well I love your smile Ivy. "
"And I’m going to love the smiles of everyone we know, when they see our little surprise." She grinned.
"Oh yes our little surprise. But Ivy will they hate me for what I’ve done?" Julian frowned.
Ivy patted Julian’s hand. "You my dear have came a long way."
"Sheridan would be happy if she could see me now wouldn’t she?" Julian questioned.
"Yes Julian she’d be thrilled. You’re a new man, the kind of brother Sheridan always wanted."
"Such a shame isn’t it Ivy? The way I treated Sheridan, not getting to know her? She always tried so very hard to form a relationship with me."
Ivy nodded, "Yes even as a child. Julian do you remember that time I caught you playing dolls with her?"
Julian smiled "How could I ever forget that?"

Flashback

Sheridan smiled as she looked up at Julian, she sat in her room two dolls in her hands.
"Julian will you play with me?" She begged her pigtails dancing as she jumped up and took his hand.
"I can’t I need to find Ethan."
"Please? You never spend time with me." 9 year old Sheridan sighed.
"I’m too old to play with you child. Get a maid to play with you, I must find Ethan father wants to talk to him."
"I know where he is, and I’ll tell you if you’ll play dolls with me." Sheridan grinned.
Julian rolled his eyes. "Fine."
Sheridan beamed with delight as she handed Julian a blonde doll. "You be Julie, and I’ll play with Karen." She said flopping back down on the floor.
"Julie? Why is her name Julie?" Julian questioned reluctlanty sitting down.
"I named her after you silly." Sheridan smiled. "Now Julie needs a new outfit, she’s going to a big party." Sheridan explained pointing to what looked like hundreds of little dresses in a huge case. "Pick one out for her."
Julian rolled his eyes and looked at the mountain of dresses. Picking up a simple tiny red dress he frowned. "How’s this one?" He grumbled.
Sheridan smiled her eyes shining. "Oh that’s one of my favorite."
Julian frowned. "Father would kill me if he could see what I’m doing."
"But you want to find Ethan." Sheridan giggled.
"Yes that’s true." He said standing the doll up in her red dress.
"I want to look just like that when I grown up." Sheridan smiled.
"Julian Crane what on earth are you doing?" A voice suddenly rang out. Turning around he jumped to his feet dropping the doll.
"Ivy don’t sneak up on me like that." He yelled.
"You’re playing dolls." Ivy began to laugh.
Julian’s face became bright red. "The child said she would tell me where our son is if I played with these things. I was merely doing so in order to get information."
Ivy smiled. "Sheridan sweetie where is Ethan?"
Sheridan looked at Julian and giggled then she looked up at Ivy, "We are playing hide and seek. He’s hiding and when I get done playing I’ll find him."
"That’s horrible." Ivy said shaking her head.
Julian smiled. "Not a bad idea my young sister. Good way to keep the brat out of your hair."
Sheridan nodded. "He was trying to break the heads off my dolls, I had to do something."
"Sheridan you should be ashamed." Ivy said as she ran off.
"Very clever my dear." Julian laughed. "Very clever indeed."

End flashback

Ivy wiped a tear that had formed in her eye. "She had such a horrible childhood. Always playing alone."
Julian sighed a frown formed on his face, "I did love her. The older she became the more I respected her.
"She was a truly wonderful person, her and Luis both."
Julian smiled. "Luis, yes. He is the reason I am doing many of the things I’m doing now. In his memory."
Ivy took Julian’s hand. "He’d be so proud."
"Let’s just hope it all goes as planned." Julian sighed. "It has to."

Gwen took Miguel’s hand and lead him into the living room of her home. "So tell me why you’re here." She smiled.
"I wanted to see you, I wanted to ask you out." He said his eyes dancing. This woman in front of his was simply amazing, such power in her voice, standing up for him to her mother, She wasn’t some rich snob. To him she was simply Gwen.
"Ask me out? Well what did you have in mind?" She smiled.
"I’m not sure, I have a few ideas but I thought if there was somewhere you wanted to go, then we’d do that."
"We could go to the country club, oh and there is a Opera I have been dying to see." Gwen gleamed.
"Country Club, Opera. Those are ideas." Miguel said, trying to hide a frown that finally appeared on his face.
"You don’t like those ideas do you?" Gwen questioned.
"No not really." Miguel admitted. He looked at Gwen, if he had learned anything from his brother and sister it was honesty. Honesty was important, Theresa had always been flawed there, and Luis he had told him once that the one thing that kept him and Sheridan together when their social classes got in the way was honesty.
"What did you have in mind?" She asked. Gwen watched Miguel and smiled inside. He never put on a huge front for her. He was who he was, a 21 year old guy who loved life.
"I was thinking a movie, maybe grab something to eat at the Lobster Shack and if we have time go bowling."
"Bowling, movies and lobster. Interesting." Gwen grinned. "Very interesting."
Miguel frowned. "Its not your thing is it?"
Gwen sighed. "I love movies and lobster but bowling I just don’t know about that."
"Its fun, I mean its not basketball but its still pretty cool."
Gwen nodded, "You know, why not? If Sheridan could do that stuff with Luis why can’t I? So its not what mother would approve of. People of our social class never bowl." Gwen laughed mocking her mother. "Lets do it." She smiled.
"And I’ll do the Country Club thing with you soon, I promise." Miguel smiled. "Just don’t expect me to get all dressed up."
Gwen laughed, "So when is this big date going to take place?"
"I was thinking tomorrow night. I have to work late at the Youth Center tonight, so would that work for you? I promise it will be something you’ll never forget. "
"Oh you promise do you?" Gwen winked.
"Well first of all, you’ll be out with me." Miguel said pointing to himself, "And just being out with me is something you can’t forget. Second of all, I’m going to show you what a good time really is. "
"Then tomorrow night you have a date."
Miguel let out a huge breath. A real date with Gwen, "So, I’ll pick up up at 7:00 ?"
"Sounds good to me." Gwen smiled clutching her sweaty palms.
Miguel stood up. " I should be going. The kids need me at the Center." He said looking down at Gwen, at her eyes, her hair, those lips. He didn’t know which part of her made his head swim or his legs go so weak. Perhaps it was the whole package, whatever it was, he knew he’d never felt anything like it before.

Theresa grabbed a ponytail holder and threw her hair out of her face. Kendra had just attempted to crack eggs for a cake they were baking together and only 1 of the four eggs had made it into the bowl. The other three sat in a messy clump on the kitchen floor.
"Resa I’m sorry! I was kinda watching T.V. and they just fell." Kendra cried small tears falling from her eyes.
"Kenji don’t cry baby, its O.K." Kendra smiled. "Thanks Aunt Resa. I can but the flour in there though." She grinned.
Theresa started to open her mouth but it was too late Kendra grabbed the flour and began to dump it into the bowl, as the bowl and the flour bag hit the floor.
"Oops. " Kendra said putting her hand over her mouth as she looked at the area that was now covered white. "Sorry again?" She said looking up at Theresa.
"And again its O.K. tell you what Kenji, why don’t you just go play while I clean up."
Kendra nodded and ran off her hair full of flour.
"This is going to be a long day." Theresa cried bending down as the phone rang. Stepping over the flour she made her way to the phone taking a breath she answered it.
"Hello?"
"Resa, girl you sound out of breath." A voice said.
"Chad?" She grinned suddenly forgetting the mess surrounding her.
"That would be me. So how you doing this morning." He asked her, his voice full of energy.
"Well I have the makings of a nice cake sitting in my floor, but other than that, pretty good." She laughed.
"Kendra’s been cooking?" He laughed.
"You got it. Now she’s upstairs playing."
"And you’ve got a mountain of mess to clean up? You poor thing."
"I can handle it. So how about you? Good day so far?" Theresa asked leaning up against her counter.
"Jada asked if I had a girlfriend." He laughed.
Theresa felt her heart beat harder. "Really? What did you tell her?"
"I told her I really liked you. And she said it was cool."
Theresa smiled, she wondered if it was possible for her smile to be any bigger. "That’s great."
"That’s what I thought to. It was pretty weird talking to my kid about a woman though. But she was totally up for her daddy liking a girl, except she said kissing was gross."
"Bet you liked hearing that part." Theresa joked.
"Are you kidding? It wouldn’t bother me if she thought kissing was gross for the next 30 years. It would solve one problem, that’s for sure."
"Now Chad, you know she’s going to grow out of that."
"Not if I can help it. She’s my baby Resa."
"She’ll always be your baby."
Chad laughed. "That I know. Anyway I just wanted to call and see how you’re doing. I’ll talk to you tonight O.K.?"
"Sounds good. Bye Chad."
"Bye." He said hanging up.
Theresa let out a sigh. "Could that man be anymore perfect?" She said out loud as she grabbed a broom and began to sweep.
~*~*~*~

Chad put his phone down and smiled. Theresa had came such a long way. He could remember the girl he had met when he had first come to town, Naïve about the real things, determined to get her way. She had fought so hard to get Ethan, going as far as taking him from Gwen. Of course as the old saying when Ethan couldn’t have been taken if he hadn’t allowed it. But now Theresa was a woman, she had dealt with losing Luis and Sheridan with courage, took on raising two children and refused to stop trying. She loved those kids, and Chad knew apart of her wanted to make Luis proud. The Theresa he cared about wasn’t the girl he had once known. This was an amazing woman, and he knew his feelings were real for her, and he would find a way to make things work.
"Its all gonna be all right." Chad told himself as the door bell rang.
"Maybe Resa missed me more than she could handle." He joked to himself as he swung open the door. He looked at the woman in front of him and felt his mouth drop open.
"Well hello Chad. Its nice to see you too." She said smiling at him.
"Carrie." He choked out staring at her.
"That’s right Chad. So where’s my baby girl? Her mommy is finally home."
