It Never Ends

Theresa wiped the sweat off her forehead and stood up and she dusted the final bit of flour off her counter. "All done." She sighed almost out of breath. Looking around her kitchen she smiled as she realized for the first time in months it was spotless. "This won’t last long." She laughed to herself as her eyes suddenly caught her calendar. Blinking she looked at it for a moment longer. Her brain fixated on the date.
"But it can’t be." She said gripping the counter. Reaching out she touched the date, letting her finger fall as soon as she touched it.
"Two months. Has it really been two months?" She whispered. She swallowed hard as a tear stung her eye.
"They’ve been gone for two months, and I forgot." She said shaking her head. "What kind of sister am I?"
Theresa felt her whole body weaken. How could she let something like this slip by her? Two months ago her brother had died, and she hadn’t even realized it was two months to the day.

"Daddy, who’s the pretty lady?" Jada asked again staring up at Carrie.
Chad looked at Jada, his little angel, for so long it had been them against the world, but it made them closer. He loved his little girl with all his heart, he couldn’t imagine a day without her in his life. So now how did he look at this child that had been motherless for so long and tell her that the woman in front of her was her mother, the mother who left when she was born.
"Chad, tell her." Carrie said looking over at him. "Or I will."
Chad took a deep breath and walked over to Jada. Taking her tiny hand in his he sat down on the bottom step of the stairs and set up on his lap. "Baby girl, do you remember all that stuff I told you about your mommy?" He asked.
Jada bobbled her head up and down. "She was pretty and sweet and you really loved her right daddy?" Jada said smiling.
Chad looked up at Carrie and nodded." Yes baby I did. And you remember how I told you she loved you and wanted you to be proud of her?" He said touching a loose curl that had fallen in Jada’s face.
"Yeah. But she left daddy." Jada said then smiled. "But that don’t matter because I got you." She giggled.
"Doesn’t matter. " Chad smiled, "And Jada it does, because mommy is back."
Jada looked into her daddy’s eyes and suddenly her small head turned to stare up at Carrie. "Are you my mommy?" She almost whispered hugging up to her father.
Carrie bent down and smile. "That’s right Jada. I’m you’re mommy and I came back to see how you were."
Jada looked at Chad, confusion and fear both showing in her eyes. " I’m doing good, so you can go home now." She said standing up.
"Jada Sweetie I don’t want to leave."
The little girl shrugged. "But we are doing good. So you don’t have to stay."
Chad looked at Jada and frowned. "Sweetheart why don’t we go upstairs and talk alone."
"Chad, no. I want to hear what you say." Carrie said looking at Jada.
"I will handle this." Chad said taking Jada’s hand. "You just wait here."

Gwen picked up her phone and dialed her mother’s number. She had to make her mother understand why dating Miguel was so important. He was different from everyone else, carefree but mature. And he understood her. She knew her mother would never completely understand, especially why she was able to make peace with Theresa. Part of her didn’t understand either, maybe because they were both free of Ethan, or because of Sheridan and Luis’s deaths. All she knew was a part of her changed the day she lost her best friend, and this forgiveness came into her.
"Hello?" Rebecca’s voice rang out.
"Mother its me."
Rebecca was silent for a moment. "What now?" She asked pausing. " Please don’t tell me any more news about your life with those ‘people’." Rebecca said her voice hard.
Gwen sighed. "Mother, I wanted to see if you were doing better. You did pass out in my floor not long ago."
"Oh you mean you remember your poor mother? I figured since I wasn’t apart of your new social group you’d forget all about me." Rebecca snapped.
"Mother that’s enough. You know I love you. But I’ve changed."
"Yes, I am quite aware of that Gwen. I am very worried about you sweetheart."
Gwen couldn’t help but roll her eyes. "Mother don’t worry about me, just accept the fact that I do care about Miguel." Gwen said bluntly.
"He’s a teenager." Rebecca complained.
"He’s almost 22. He’s very mature mother. And he’s a very caring person. If you could give him a chance, you might be surprised at what kind of person he really is."
"I’m sorry Gwen, but I just can’t do this right now. I’ve got to go." Rebecca said hanging up her phone.
Gwen slowly sat her phone down and shook her head. "Well at least I tried." She sighed as she grabbed her purse and headed out the door.

Theresa slowly walked into her living room, dazed she sat down and began to cry. She had been so busy, with her work, and the kids, that it seemed she had forgot to cry. Chad had been making her happy, bringing a smile to her face, and her mama was doing better. So why now was it hurting again? It hadn’t seemed like they had been gone two months. Did that make her a bad person? Forgetting a date like she had? She was suppose to remember these things, because Luis was her brother, he’d helped raise her. How could she just forget? Luis would have never forgot, and Sheridan wouldn’t have either.

Picking up her phone she dialed Chad’s number. Chad would understand, he would be honest with her. She needed to hear his voice, that tone that always said don’t be afraid without him even implying it.

"Chad Harris’s residents." A woman’s voice suddenly said.
Shocked Theresa finally spoke. "Um, is Chad there?" She said remembering Jada’s baby-sitter sometimes answered the phone.
"He’s upstairs." She answered back.
"Is this Marie?" She asked sitting back against her couch.
"No, this is Carrie." The woman said.
Theresa felt her whole body go numb. "Carrie?" She stumbled out.
"Yes that’s right. Do I know you?" Carrie questioned.
"I don’t think so." Theresa said then hoping she was wrong spoke again. "Are you Jada’s new Baby-sitter?" She said weakly.
Carrie laughed. "Oh no. I’m Jada’s mother." She said as the phone fell from Theresa's hand.
