Now or Never

"Theresa?" Chad said looking down at the broken glass on the floor.
Her eyes scanned the floor then looked back toward him, "What did you just say?" She said letting out a gasp.
Chad smiled, "I asked you to marry me."
"Yeah, that’s what I thought." She said moving away from the glass.
"So do I get some sort of answer now?" He asked closing the front door as he entered the house.
Theresa began to do her nervous pace. Marriage, Wedlock, Matrimony, she knew all the words for it, she had studied them as a child. She remembered being a little girl in school, sitting on the sidewalk drawing the perfect wedding dress while everyone else played. She had once had her wedding planned out, but that was with Ethan, and he left her. Marriage meant one thing to her, it meant forever, spending your life with your soul mate.
"Resa, are you with me." Chad’s voice echoed in the room. He watched as she slowly looked up at him, almost like a small child. He could see fear glazing over her eyes, and he knew. She was afraid, because of her past with Ethan, she was scared to answer him.
"Are you sure you want this?" She asked slowly, moving her hair behind her ear.
"Girl, I know I want it. I love you Theresa, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. It feels so right to me."
She smiled slowly, "And the kids, your ready for that too?" She asked this time playing with a strand of her hair.
"I love those kids, and Resa I realize when we’ve got here is a ready made family, and it ain’t all that normal but hey, since when have we ever wanted to be normal?" He grinned.
She couldn’t help but laugh, though her heart was still racing, "We haven’t went out long." She stated perhaps for no reason at all, or maybe she just needed him to assure her it would all be okay.
"Long enough to know your the one I’ve been looking for." He answered backed.
Three years ago if a man like Chad Harris had proposed to her, she would have answered him before he even got the last word out. Looking at him she realized just how much she herself had changed. She wasn’t jumping this time, she was stepping slowly, making sure it all felt right first.
"You know Marriage is the ultimate commitment, I mean its forever." She smiled.
"Yes, that’s how I’ve always wanted it."
"And its not easy, it’s hard, and scary, and its not always fun." She explained.
Chad nodded his head. "I realize all of this."
"And your ready?"
"Yes I’m ready, I want it all with you Resa. I want the good and the bad, I want a family, a life together, but I really do need your answer." He assured her.
"Okay then." She simply said a smile teasing her lips.
"Okay then?" He questioned, confused and amazed at the same time.
She laughed. "Chad, I want to spend my life with you but I just had to make sure you understood what marriage means to me. Its huge, and I had to make sure it felt right."
He felt his whole face light up. "So that was a yes right? I mean I’m just checking and all." He grinned walking over to her.
"Yes Chad Harris, I’d be honored to be your wife."
Chad took out the ring and slipped it on her finger kissing her lips. "I love you Theresa."
"I love you too baby."
"And I will make you happy." He smiled.
Theresa let out a giggle. "You wanta start making me happy now?" She winked.
"What do you have in mind?" Chad asked with a grin.
"Help me clean the floor up, there’s juice and glass everywhere!" She laughed.

"Married?" You and Ethan?" Miguel said blinking.
"Yeah, isn’t it great?" Beth smiled.
Miguel looked over at Gwen, sitting at the table alone. "I didn’t realize you two were that serious."
"Well it just sorta happened. I mean we didn’t date long, but sometimes you just know." She blushed.
"How long have you two been together?" Miguel asked.
"We’ve been friends for almost six months, but three months ago things just clicked for us, the night your dad came back actually. Ethan came by here and needed to talk and we’ve been getting closer every since." She smiled.
"Whoa." Miguel frowned.
"I know it seems rushed, but I’m telling you Miguel its not."
"So when? What day I mean?"
"Oh we went to this tiny little chapel a few nights ago. We were just talking about marriage and suddenly there we were in this little white church getting married. "
"Ivy is going to freak." Miguel sighed turning back to look at Gwen again, dreading her reaction.
"We’re ready for Ivy and everyone else." Beth smiled. "We’re telling them tonight actually."
"When? Its getting kind of late now." Miguel frowned.
"As soon as Ethan gets here actually."
"Well best of luck to both of you." Miguel said forcing a smile, "I better get back to Gwen."
"Thank you Miguel." Beth said as Miguel walked away.
"What was that about?" Gwen asked looking at Miguel’s frowning face.
"What was what?" He questioned.
"You and Beth, what did she have to say?"
Miguel shook his head, "Lets take these coffees to go Gwen, I have something I need to tell you."
Miguel lead Gwen outside." What is going on?" She questioned.
"I’ll tell in a second." Miguel said taking her hand.
"No! You’ll tell me now Miguel, I was watching your face when you were talking to Beth now what is going on?" She insisted stopping in the middle of the street.
"Gwen not right now." Miguel pleaded.
Gwen shook her head, "Wait! She’s dating Ethan right?" Looking at Miguel’s face she frowned. "This has to do with Ethan doesn’t it?"
"Well yeah." Miguel said dropping his head.
"Miguel please tell me what’s going on."
"You’re not going to like it." He said looking up at her.
"So? There’s not a lot about Ethan that I do like, but I still want to know!" She commanded.
"Fine." Miguel sighed. "But I’m warning you, its big."
"Just tell me!"
"Beth and Ethan are married." He spit out bluntly.
Gwen suddenly began to laugh. "Right. Good one Miguel. Ethan wouldn’t marry me after ten years, you expect me to believe he married her after a couple months?" She questioned. "Now tell me what’s going on!."
Miguel frowned running his fingers through his hair. "I’m not joking, Beth and Ethan are married Gwen. She has the ring and everything."
Gwen’s smile disappeared. "They’re really married?" She questioned.
"Yeah."
"After only a couple months?" She whispered.
"Three months, they dated for three months."
Gwen let it sink in her mind anger building as she thought of the years she had spent with Ethan. Ten years she waited to be his wife and it never happened. He lead Theresa along as well she realized, promising her she’d be his wife as well, but nothing.
"So what your telling me is, I wasted ten years on that man waiting on him to marry me, only for him to leave me, do the same thing to your sister and then in the end he marries someone after a few months? Three stupid months? What is she pregnant or something?" Gwen yelled.
"Gwen calm down!" Miguel said reaching out to touch her arm. She moved away from him.
"Don’t tell me to calm down Miguel! Do you know how hard it was for him to simply propose to me? I mean it took work! So how can he just up and marry someone so fast? What does Beth have Theresa and I don’t have?"
"Gwen, he wasn’t the one for you or Theresa, you know that."
"I know, but still." Gwen frowned.
"And it has nothing to do with you, or my sister. Both of you are beautiful and talented women. I’m glad you didn’t marry Ethan, and I’m sure Chad is glad Theresa didn’t marry the guy. So what if he ran off with Beth? Think about it like this, she’s stuck with him and your not." Miguel grinned.
"I guess your right." Gwen sighed.
"Of course I am." Miguel laughed touching her face.
"But I still say she’s pregnant." Gwen said with a pout.
