Chapter Eight

“Julian?” Eve asked, stepping inside the room. She quietly closed the door, and on his bedside. It was about time she was allowed inside!

She had called for the ambulance and immediately started working on treating him before he loses any more blood.

Eve had realized that Julian was going into shock when his face was turning deathly white. She did her best without her medical equipment, forcing herself to stay calm. It was too much. She started crying all over again, flinging her arms around Julian begging for him to be OK.

“Eve…” he had murmured, “if… anything should… happen…” he choked. “I… -’

“Shhh… it will be alright Julian,” she said, placing her finger at Julian’s lips.

“I… just… want you to…-“

“Nothing is going to happen,” she said firmly. “I promise.”

Julian tried to get up, but fell back in pain. “I love you,” he gasped, before losing conscious.

“I love you to,” Eve sobbed.

“Julian.”

Damn it, where was the ambulance?

Finally, she had heard them. It was gaining quickly towards her while she shrieked, “Over here!”

Eve touched Julian’s hand.

The paramedics were unleashed and then carried Julian to the stretcher, while a young police officer started to ask Eve questions regarding towards Julian.

“I was just standing here,” she sobbed, “and then I found Mr. Crane running towards me warning for me to get down.”

“I couldn’t hear what he was saying and was scared at the rating of speed he was running…”

“Before I knew it, I had heard a large BANG! … the sound must have came from a gun… and found him standing before me, shielding me,” she choked. “He was hit.”

That particular police officer was looking at her strangely, but then he patted her. “Ok, that’s all I needed to know,” he said gently. “Thanks miss.”

Eve nodded, and started to run to the ambulance.

“Can I go with him?” Eve asked, her voice trembling.

The paramedics considered it for a moment, and then nodded their heads.

“Sure, miss.”

“Dr.,” Eve said, feeling the need to correct them. “Russell.”

“He took a bullet for me,” she realized. “He saved my life. Risked it, …again.”

When they had finally arrived to the Harmony Hospital, Eve was running with the paramedics and was about to take her doctor’s coat, when a nurse had stopped her.

“Eve…” she said softly, “You can’t treat Mr. Crane today.”

“Why not?” Eve demanded.

“Because today is your day-off, that’s why.”

“Nonsense! I’m going inside right now!”

“Look –“

“WHY?” shouted Eve, “WHY am I not allowed to treat Mr. Crane, Katie?”

“Because Mr. Crane will be my patient, that’s why.”

Eve turned around, and locked eyes with the young woman standing a few steps behind her. “Who are YOU?” she asked.

The young woman rolled her eyes and stepped forward. “I’m Dr. Morris.”

“Dr. Morris? I never heard of you before.”

“That’s because I was just transferred here from Boston,” she shot back. “Mr. Crane Senior sent me here OK? I will be treating his son whether you like it or not.”

“Just how old are you, anyways?”

“Old enough,” she simpered.

Eve stared.

“OK! Fine! I’m twenty-six years old!”

She then reached for the curtains. “I’ll tell you when it’s safe to come inside.”

Eve tightened her grip on Julian’s hand. The nerve of that woman! And why the hell would Alistair send her over here anyways? There are plenty of qualified woman to be taking care of Julian, so why “Dr. Morris”? Something wasn’t right.

After hours of waiting, Dr. Morris finally emerged from the room and closed the door.

“How is the patient?” Eve asked anxiously.

“He is OK for now... but…” she said hesitantly.

“But? But what?”

“I’m afraid Mr. Crane has slipped into a coma,” Dr. Morris said regretfully.

“No!” Eve gasped.

“Yes! But you can come inside if you want, Dr. Russell, if you don’t believe me.” She snapped. “But be gentle with him, because –“

“Whatever! Thank you, DR.MORRIS, you can leave me with Mr. Crane now,” Eve had said, and then closed the door quickly.

“There was something familiar with that woman,” Eve thought.

She then looked at Julian again. He looked as if he was sleeping peacefully. The heartbeat monitor proved that he was.

“Julian, wake up…” she pleaded. “Please don’t leave me…”

“I need you…”

Still, there was no response from him.

“I wonder what Julian is dreaming about right now,” Eve wondered aloud.

“Well, Liz, good luck moving to LA,” Whitney smiled. “I’m sorry things didn’t work out here.”

“Me too,” Liz said. “But I’m not going to move there, just going to go visit some old friends of mine.”

“Ok, take care, alright?” Whitney hugged Liz. “We’ll miss you.”

“I’ll miss you too.”

“Flight number 918 to Los Angeles is ready to –“

“Oh,” Liz said, grabbing her luggage. “That’s me!”

“Bye Ms. Sanbourne,” Fox and Theresa waved.

“Bye!”

Liz walked inside, and looked around distastefully. It was not as luxurious as the Crane jet flying second class. But, it’ll do.

“Time to bring Chad Harris back to Harmony,” Liz thought. “Los Angeles, here I come!”

__

Fox’s cell phone rang. “Excuse me, I have to take this call.”

“Yea, sure, go ahead,” Whitney and Theresa smiled.

Fox walked away and looked at the caller ID. Alistair’s name lit up his display. What now?

“Grandfather?”

Fox’s face whitened. “My god, are you serious?”

“Alright. Ok, bye Gramps.”

Fox rushed over to the girls.

“What? What happened?” Theresa inquired.

“Father’s been shot,” Fox panicked. “I have to go to the hospital right now.”

“I’ll come with you,” said Whitney.

“Ok, hurry!”

Theresa shifted her feet. “I’m sorry about your dad Fox, I really am.”

“Yea?”

“But I have to go to my family right now. Little Ethan needs me.”

“Ok, take care Resa.”

“You too! I hope Julian will be alright.”

Theresa ran off.

Fox looked at Whitney. “Let’s go.”

“Daddy? Mommy?” Simone called out, flicking the lights on. “Is anybody home?”

Silence.

“…Liz?”

“Ok, FINE! I’ll go to sleep now, then!” Simone pouted.

She had just came home from the movies with Kay. Miguel and Charity never even knew that both Simone and Kay were both watching the same movie only a few seats behind. All Kay did was watch Miguel throughout the whole day, while Simone bore her eyes off. The movie sucked! “I bet Charity picked that,” she thought. It was also annoying to see Kay jump every time she sees the couple kissing.

All in all, it was a lousy day. She missed a few hours of studying for her exam for nothing!

She placed her keys on the table, and was about to go to her bedroom when she noticed a new addition to the family pictures. “Never saw that one before,” she thought.

She took a closer look at it. “WHAT?”

Did her eyes just played with her?

Or did she just saw her mother and Julian Crane… kissing?

She picked up the picture. “WHAT THE F***?”

Simone seethed. “Thank god daddy never saw this picture yet!”

“My mother is a WHORE!”

She took her keys again and unlocked the door, and then slammed it.

“You’re going to have a lot of explaining to do, mom!”
