Wait For Me; Chapter 12 (Evian)
by ejcrane

Eve was driving home from the hospital. She kept going over and over in her head the reaction she was expecting from Julian, once he learned that J.B. was his son. She pulled up in her driveway and looked across the street, but his car wasn’t there. Julian must’ve gotten a cab and went home and then took off from his house in his car. Eve wondered where he had gone. She felt so sorry for him. Never did she mean for this to happen. Eve was grateful for Judy; she saved her son’s life, but while she did that, she lost hers.

Days had gone by and still Julian was nowhere. Eve worried. Had he left again, and she didn’t get a chance to tell him about their son? No, he wouldn’t leave; he knew that she was going to have their baby.

Eve soon found out that Julian had been staying at the Crane cabin, just outside of Harmony. He had wanted to be alone, and had been working from there. She decided that now was the right time to tell him about their son, so she packed J.B.’s things, left him with Chad and Whitney. Eve did not feel safe leaving J.B. with Tc. Lately she had been noticing that Tc was very neglectful towards her son; her reason for why she thought he’d been acting this way was because she believed that Tc was taking out his feelings for Julian out on his son. Eve didn’t know why Tc had changed his feelings for their son. When J.B. had been born, Tc never wanted to stop holding him, but after Julian returned back to Harmony, Tc didn’t feel so “father-ish” towards his adopted son. Why Eve stayed with him, she didn’t know? Why she went back to him in the first place, she didn’t know, but realized that it had been a mistake of hers, and because of it, Julian had left her…left her for two years and met someone else.

Julian heard a car approach, and then he heard it turn off. He had wondered who it was and so when he went to the door and stood on the porch, he saw that it was Eve. He rolled his eyes. Eve saw him do this and sighed.

“What are you doing here, Eve?”

“I came here to see you,” she walked up the steps to him.

“For what?” he turned his back to her.

“Because I care about you, and I’m concerned,” she placed her hands on his shoulders, “You shouldn’t be alone at a time like this.”

“At a time like what?” he shrugged, “My wife and my child just died, so what?”

“So what? So what?!” she turned him around to her, “Julian…” she shook her head and pulled him into her arms, and that’s when Julian broke down and cried on her shoulder.

Julian pulled from Eve and pushed her away.

“Go home, Eve,” he turned and went inside.

Eve was left speechless on the porch. What had just happened? Eve opened the closed door and shut it behind her. Julian was sitting in an arm chair sipping on some scotch. She marched up to him and yanked the glass out of his hand.

“What the hell? Eve you give that back,” he said as he stood up and held out his hand.

“No! You can’t be drinking away your pain!”

“And why not,” he yanked her to him, which made her drop the glass to the floor.

He then backed Eve up against the wall and ripped open her shirt. One hand went to her lower back as the other grabbed her breast and massaged it roughly.

“You want me, Eve? Well, now you have me,” he kissed her hard.

His breath was hot and his forceful kisses were hurting her.

“Judy’s dead now, Eve…so now I’m all yours,” he held her tight as he began kissing her neck, “Don’t you want me, Eve? Don’t you want me?” his hand reached into her bra.

She pushed him from her and backhanded him. Julian just stood there and looked at her as he held his cheek. Tears began to stream down his face as he walked to his room and sat on the bed. Eve stood in the doorway and Julian looked up and met her eyes.

“I’m sorry,” he apologized, “I don’t know what’s come over me…” he sniffed as he lied back onto the bed.

Eve walked over to the foot of the bed and grabbed the quilt. She then laid beside him and instructed him to turn to his side. When he did so, she covered them both as she wrapped her arms around him from behind.

“Eve…”

“Shhh, Julian, don’t talk, just rest,” she combed her fingers through his hair.

He nodded and then closed his eyes.

Julian’s breathing became louder and slower, which Eve guessed that he had fallen asleep. She wondered if he had gotten any sleep at all since Judy’s death. His eyes were so bloodshot and his beard didn’t look like it had been groomed. It also seemed as if Julian hadn’t bathed. Eve could tell by the slight unpleasant smell coming from him, but that wasn’t going to keep her from him…she loved him, and he needed her right now.

She kissed his ear and then whispered some words…

“Why didn’t you wait for me, Julian? Why?” she cried into his back.

She closed her eyes as she held him tighter, but opened them when she heard his voice.

“Why didn’t you wait for me, Eve?” he whispered, “Why did you run to Tc so soon?” his voice trembled.

Eve sat up quickly. Julian turned back onto his back and then sat up beside Eve.

“I-I stayed with Tc because…because of J.B.”

“I see,” he swallowed, “I almost forgot about your son…”

“No, Julian. Our son,” she looked him in the eye.

“What? What are you saying, Eve?”

“J.B. is not my son with Tc,” she shook her head as her eyes brimmed with tears, “J.B. is ours.”

“Our son,” he smiled, but soon that smile faded, “Why didn’t you tell me sooner, Eve? I deserved to know.”

“How was I supposed to tell a man with amnesia that he had a son; that he was the father of my child?” she gave him a look.

“I’m sorry, Eve.”

“No, I’m sorry,” she turned his chin to her, “I’m sorry for not fighting for our love; for letting my daughters and my family make my decisions. I should’ve been with you, Julian. This whole time, I should’ve been with you…the man that I love, the father of my son, and my baby that I’m carrying,” she smiled as she looked down and held her stomach.

“Our baby,” he smiled and knelt down in front of Eve as he pressed a kiss to her stomach.

Eve held onto his head as he pressed his ear to her and hugged her.

“I love you, Julian,” she whispered, “I love you so much, and I’m so sorry for what happened.”

She regretted those last words, for Julian looked up at her and glared. The memory of Judy was flooding back to him. He stood and walked away from Eve. The door to the bathroom closed and locked.

“Julian?” she knocked, but he didn’t answer her.

Eve decided to leave him alone when she heard the shower turn on, so she went to the kitchen and decided to make something for him to eat, since she guessed that he hadn’t had much to eat either.

Thirty minutes passed and Eve was cooking up a storm in the kitchen, and failed to hear the running water from the shower turn off. Julian, in just a towel, opened the door from the bathroom to the bedroom and could smell the wonderful aroma that filled the cabin. He then stepped out of the room and walked to the kitchen. Eve was standing in front of the sink washing some dishes. He walked quietly behind her and wrapped his arms around her.

“I love you too, darling,” he kissed her ear, “I’ve always loved you; ever since that first time I saw you back at the Blue Note,” he smiled.

Darling? Julian had always called her that. He was back to his self. She turned around in his arms and hugged him.

“I’ve loved you since then too,” she closed her eyes, “I can still remember you watching me, the way you would smile when you looked at me. You were all I wanted…”

Julian pulled from her and leaned forward and began kissing Eve. He then lifted her into his arms and carried her to the kitchen table where he placed her. Julian was standing between her legs when he dropped his towel to the floor…
