Wait For Me; Chapter 8 (Evian)
by ejcrane

That night, Julian Smith went to bed with the image of that woman in his head. And that night, he dreamt of her…they were in each other’s arms and in bed.

“EVE!” Julian screamed as he sat up straight, breathing hard and sweating profusely.

“Julian, are you okay, honey?” Judy sat beside him and hugged him.

“Yes, yes…I just dreamt…”

“Of what? Who is this ‘Eve’ you screamed out?” she looked to him.

“I-I don’t know…let’s just go back to sleep.” He smiled.

“Okay,” she rested her head on her husband’s chest and fell asleep, as Julian tried to make more sense of that strange dream he just had.
---

The next day Julian decided to take a look at the new town they were staying at, and found himself at the hospital. Why, he didn’t know. He just felt drawn to it.

Julian walked down a hallway and then walked right passed a door. He stopped and stepped backwards.

“Dr. Eve Russell” was written on the door.

He looked to the side as his mind went to the night before. Julian then walked up to the door and tried the knob. It was unlocked, so he opened the door. This room, he recognized it. The woman in the lab coat, he recognized too. And when she turned around, it was Eve. The woman in his dreams; the woman in the park the other day.

“Excuse me, did you need some help?” Eve asked as she turned around from her filing cabinet, “Oh, hi!” she smiled slightly, recognizing the man from the day before, “If you’re looking for the front desk, it’s around the corner, okay?” she smiled and turned back to do her filing.

But Julian stepped in and shut the door behind him. Hearing the door close, Eve kept on with her business thinking she was all alone in her office, until he spoke.

“Eve?” he stepped closer.

The hair at the back of Eve’s neck stood up. She knew that voice, but no, it couldn’t be…it just couldn’t be. Eve swallowed and turned to look at this strange man, but found him closer to her than she anticipated.

Julian pulled Eve into a kiss, and wrapped his arms around her as he brought her close to him. She responded to the strokes of his tongue and to the caresses of his hands upon her body, until common sense kicked in and she pushed on his chest and slapped him.

“How dare you?!” she wiped her mouth.

“Eve?” he breathed hard.

“Stop saying my name like that…you sound just like…” she paused, “No…no,” she shook her head.

“Like who? Like Julian?”

Eve raised her hand again and slapped him.

“Don’t you ever bring up his name! You don’t even know him!” she stepped around him.

Julian then stepped towards Eve and she began backing up only to be blocked by the wall behind her. He looked her in the eyes.

“It’s me, Eve…it’s me,” Julian ripped open her shirt and pulled her to him again as he kissed her hungrily, “I remember how you taste,” he kissed her neck, “I remember how you smell,” he whispered between kisses, “The way you feel,” his arms reached inside her shirt and caressed her soft skin.

“Julian?” she whispered as she closed her eyes.

The hair from his beard was tickling her neck; his hands were all too familiar with Julian’s touch.

Eve pulled Julian’s face from her neck and pulled his lips to hers and wrapped her arms around his neck as she molded her body to his.

“No,” she pushed on his chest, “No, it can’t be; you can’t be…Julian’s dead,” she moved to the other side of the room.

Julian moved over to Eve and stood directly behind her.

“But I’m here,” he placed his hands on her shoulders, “And I’m very much alive,” he said as he slipped her lab coat and blouse off her shoulders and began kissing them.

Eve leaned her head back as Julian’s lips were upon her neck, but the two were interrupted when they heard the knob turn.

“Mom, mom, are you in there?” Simone knocked.

“Oh my God, it’s Simone,” Eve hissed, and began buttoning up her blouse, “Hold on sweetie,” she yelled sweetly.

Eve then walked over to the door and unlocked it and opened it up to Simone and J.B.

“Mommy!” he ran into her arms.

“Ohh, how’s my little boy, huh?” Eve picked him up.

Eve turned to face Julian. This was his son. Did he know it?

“Oh, I didn’t know you were busy,” Simone looked to her mother and took notice of her shirt.

It was untucked, and also, when Eve buttoned it up, she never looked down and now her shirt was uneven in the front.

“Mom, what’s up with your shirt? Did we come at a bad time?” she said sarcastically.

“Simone, please!” Eve gave her a hard look as she put J.B. down and grabbed Simone’s arm, “We need to talk,” she pulled her out into the hallway.

Once J.B. was placed on the floor, he went straight to the man he met the day before…the man that was his real father. Julian picked up the child that he had met already.

Eve closed the door and left it slightly ajar. She and Simone were talking when all of a sudden J.B. began screaming. Both Eve and Simone ran back into the office only to find Julian passed out on the floor and J.B. sitting by his father’s side, crying.

“Oh my God!” Eve shrieked as she rushed to Julian’s side, “Simone get J.B.” she said as she got up and ran to get an ammonia capsule from the first aid kit in her office.

Eve then broke it in half and waved it under Julian’s nose just enough for him to get a whiff of it. He then began to come to.

“Julian, Julian, can you hear me?” Eve asked as she looked down upon him.

“Julian?” Simone asked, “Mom, what are you talking about? Julian’s been dead for years now…”

“Huh? Where am I?” he looked up at the doctor that was now bent over and asking him if he was okay.

His eyes then looked around the room, but nothing was familiar.

“How did I get here?” he looked frightened, “Who are all of you?” Julian sat up and touched the back of his head.

“What?” Eve suddenly looked saddened, “You don’t remember where you are? You don’t remember who I am?”

Julian began shaking his head, when his eyes widened.

“Wait, yes!”

Eve smiled.

“I remember you were in the park yesterday; I’m very sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you yesterday with your son. I just…”

“You don’t remember anything…like how you got here?”

Julian shook his head.

“No, I’m sorry; was I here for a check up or something?”

“No,” she whispered as her eyes began to burn, “Come on, Julian let’s get you up off the floor…”

“Will you please call my wife; she must be worried about me,” he took hold of Eve’s hand and stood up.

She nodded despondently.

“Yes,” she whispered, and turned her back to him, their son, and her daughter as a tear escaped her eye.

Julian didn’t remember her. And this was Julian; she knew it! She knew it by the way he held her, the way he had kissed her, and the way he had spoken to her…he was her Julian, yet he had no recollection of her…
---

Judy came to get Julian, and that’s when Eve found out that their names were Julian and Judy Smith. How did Julian come to know this woman? And where did he get that last name from? The question she was thinking mostly was: how does Julian not remember her?

She continued to watch as Judy kept pulling Julian into her arms and kissing him. Eve didn’t like that one bit; no she did not! What she didn’t like most of all, was seeing Julian in love with this other woman. And Julian did love Judy; she was the one that rescued him that tragic day his jet went down. That was the day that Julian Crane was no longer “Julian Crane,” but “Julian Smith”. But what Julian didn’t know was that Judy knew who he really was. She didn’t know the exact details of his life or where he was from, but she did know that his name was “Crane,” but she soon changed it when she realized the man she had met had amnesia.

Judy wanted to tell him many times, but each time it got harder and harder, and she didn’t know how he’d react to it, or if he’d hate her for keeping important information from him.
