The Awakening - (Evian) - Chapter Eleven

Chapter XI
She was only two-years-old when he died and it wasn’t until she was an
adult did she find out what really happened to her father. Her mother had
decided to tell her everything that she knew, everything except that…the
most important piece of all. She didn’t understand it at the time, but now,
some things were starting to make sense…well sort of…
Julian watched Eve closely as she stared off into her own little world.
She hadn’t said a word since she learned about her father’s connection to
the Book of Legends. They were now sitting down on top of gun crates inside
the artillery shop at the end of the block. Joseph had pleaded with them
to take him because he couldn’t go back to headquarters without Eve.
Running a hand through his hair, Julian stood up from his crate then walked
over to where Eve was sitting. He was just about to break the silence, but
Eve beat him to it.
“My mother told me that she met my father by chance while walking to the
market one summer day. She said that the first time she laid eyes on him,
her breath lodged in her throat. Said he was the most gorgeous man she’d
ever seen. And that the two of them quickly fell in love.” Eve whispered but
never stopped staring ahead.
Joseph looked up from his place on the floor and watched as Julian walked
over to where Eve was sitting. From what he could see, Eve was talking as
Julian listened. When they first arrived here to this place, he noticed how
Julian never took his eyes off of Eve the whole time. The show of concern
was clearly written on his face. Standing up, he stretched his back then
began walking over towards the two of them as well.
“Soon after they married and a couple of years later I came. Then when
I was two, some strange people came looking for him. Mother said he didn’t
want those people to find him. She wanted to know why, and he had no choice
but to tell her everything. Three nights later, he was killed and mother
never mentioned anything about him again until I was an adult.”
“I’m sorry.” Julian whispered.
Eve turned to face him then smiled before placing her hand on top of his.
Julian returned the smile then squeezed her hand back.
“So,” Joseph started, “our we going to get some weapons or what…”
The smile on Eve’s face suddenly disappeared and was replaced by a scowl.
“I still don’t see why we had to bring you with us.” She said dryly.
“You know why, I can’t go back unless I bring you with me.” Joseph replied.
“Well that’s your problem, not mine.” She folded her arms.
Joseph sighed, “Look, I know you don’t want me here…”
“You think.” Eve snapped then rolled her eyes. She felt a headache coming.
Eve and Joseph continued going back and forth. All Julian could do was
shake his head. Eve really did have a bad temper and all Joseph did was make
it worse…
“Alright listen both of you,” Julian started, “this here arguing is going
to stop.”
Eve just huffed and folded her arms again while Joseph rolled his eyes.
“Good. Now Eve I know you don’t want him here, but we really don’t a have
a choice.” Eve opened her mouth to say something, but Julian cut her off.
“Before you say anything, just think about this, we can’t keep running forever…well
I know I can’t. We’re going to have to face Dante and the hunters sooner
or later.”
Eve sighed, “I know...” she knew when she was defeated.
“So far, we have a lot more knowledge of who the hunters really are and
Dante too. Maybe we could use this to our advantage.” Julian said as he
folded his arms.
“How?” Joseph asked.
“You can’t go back unless you have Eve right?” Julian asked.
Joseph nodded.
“Well then, how about we give them what they want.”
“What?!” Eve and Joseph shouted in unison.
The last few days had been going just as he planned. If all went the way
he hoped it would, Eve would be his again and soon too. The information the
mortal Garth brought to him about Julian pleased him greatly. Dante now
knew everything there was about Julian and his entire bloodline.
Since Eve escaped, he used everything in his power to make sure that he’d
find her again…and he did. The second he found out where she was, he sent
members of his coven over to Julian’s home to capture them, but somehow Eve
must’ve sensed them because when his members arrived, they were long gone.
“You’ve been gone for far too long Eve. Once you’re back where you belong,
whether you like it or not, I will make you my mate...” Dante snarled, “and
whatever feelings you think you may have for the mortal Julian will be a
thing of the past, once I’m through with you.” He stated in a determined tone
of voice.
Standing in the middle of the street in front of Julian’s home were Arianna
and Gabriel. They arrived in Harmony early in the day via Toronto, Canada.
The only reason they stopped in Toronto was because her reliable source had
more information on Eve’s whereabouts. And upon further inspection, lead
them here to Julian Crane’s home.
Walking closer, “It looks like we just missed them recently.” Gabriel
said as he scratched the back of his head.
“Yeah and I’ll say by only an hour or two.” Arianna added. She then looked
turned to the left and began surveying the area around them.
“Maybe your source was wrong.” He replied in his thick Irish accent.
“He’s never wrong.” Arianna scoffed.
“And how would you know?” Gabriel countered.
“I just do.” She snapped then sighed. “Listen, they couldn’t have gotten
far. We’ll just canvas the area for a while.” Arianna said to Gabriel then
turned and noticed that he wasn’t anywhere to be found. ‘Where the hell did
he go?!’
“Arianna, over here!” Gabriel shouted from a distance.
Rolling her eyes, Arianna ran around to the back of Julian’s house and
found Gabriel down on his hands and knees. When she opened her mouth to say
something, Gabriel shushed her and then motioned for her to carefully walk
over towards him. Utterly dumbfounded, Arianna shrugged her shoulders and
did as she was told.
“Well…” she whispered.
“From the look of things, I’d say that only two people exited out of here
recently and a little while later, another group of people came looking for
them.” He said.
“And how can you tell from just looking at dirt…seriously?” Arianna asked.
Gabriel sighed in frustration. “Geez…did you not learn anything when you
were a hunter in training? The imprints in the ground and the way that they
are facing suggest what I just said.” He pointed to the footprints.
“Okay ‘oh great one’,” she said sarcastically then stood up and crossed
her arms, “which way did they go?”
Standing up himself, Gabriel dusted off his clothes before looking back
down at the imprints again. He then noticed that they only went in one direction.
“They went northeast.”
“Are you sure?” She had to make sure.
“Positive.”
For the last few hours, Eve repeated told Julian over and over again that
she refused to go through with his plan. There was no way in hell she was
going to go through with it…no way…
“For the last time, the my answer is no. You can’t make me do it.” Eve
repeated.
“Eve, it’s not as bad as it sounds.” Julian tried to level with her.
“The hell it isn’t!” She snarled. “Those people have been hunting me for
no reason for more then a hundred years. I refuse to let them think that
they’ve captured me now.”
Julian sighed. He knew it wasn’t going to work, but at least he had to
try.
“I’m sorry. I don’t know what I was thinking.”
“Julian, I know you’re not use to this kind of life but I am. You would’ve
never had gotten involved in this if you hadn’t met me.” Eve mumbled.
Walking up behind her, Julian pulled Eve back to his chest and rested
his head on her shoulder.
“You’re right. I’m not use to this kind of life but I wouldn’t change
one bit of it. If living this life is the only way for me to be with you,
then so be it.” Julian whispered in her ear.
“Thank you.” Eve whispered.
“You’re welcome.” Julian smiled then kissed her softly on the lips.
“Well…this is…weird.” Joseph said out loud which caused Julian and Eve
to cut their kiss short.
Sighing, “I’m beginning to think you were about him Eve.” Julian mumbled
in her hair.
Eve shook her head.
“And what’s weird.” Julian sneered.
“How is it possible for you to have two mates?” Joseph asked Eve.
“I don’t. I only have one true mate, and sure ain’t Dante.” Eve stated.
“Oh.” Joseph muttered.
Silence-
“Listen, I’m tired.” Julian said breaking the silence finally, “We should
get some rest then think of something in the morning.”
“I agree, but not here.” Eve said. Walking over to gun crate that she
was sitting on earlier, Eve raised her right hand up in the air then slammed
it down hard on the crate cracking it up.
Removing the broken top, she dug inside until she came across two pistols.
Now under normal circumstances, just the thought of touching a gun utterly
disgusted Eve but then again her life hadn’t been normal in a long time…
Placing her pistols in the waistband of her pants, Eve dug back into the
crate and tossed Julian and Joseph a few weapons too. Once they had their
weapons, Eve walked over to the next crate, which had the name ‘ammo’ written
on the side of it and smashed her hand through that one too.
When they finally had everything they needed packed up, the unlikely group
of three exited the artillery shop then disappeared down the darkened streets
of Harmony, while unbeknownst to them, they were being followed…
Sitting behind the desk in his chambers, he looked down the book before
him. The book had been revised time and time again to suit his purposes.
Over the course of his long life span, he and his brother had envisioned
vampires and mortals walking amongst each other, side by side in the dawn
of a day, but nothing.
When he helped his brother take over the majority of underworld back then,
it was imperative that no one knew of him or what he looked like. So when
he learned that his brother had taken a mortal as his mate many years later,
and not just any mortal but the daughter of one of the books co-authors,
that was the perfect way for him to hide his existence and finish what he
was meant to do.
Their plan had already been set in motion the minute the underworld was
Dante’s and all that was left to do was take over the mortals and find a
way for vampires to walk in the light.
“I don’t see how we could’ve been born so different brother, but I will
find a way. I will not let you suffer in the darkness anymore.” The man
whispered, then stood up from behind his desk. “Mark my words Dante, I will
not fail you and our vision of vampires and mortals together in the light
will become a reality.”
