The Awakening - (Evian) - Chapter Twenty

Chapter XX
Eve lay motionless in her bed, deep in thought, staring up at the ceiling
while Julian slept beside her with his left arm draped over her stomach. So
much had happened in the last few weeks that she still needed some time to
process everything. The truth about her father’s demise, Dante and his brother,
Arianna secrets and her death, Joseph and Gabriel’s involvement with Arianna,
Julian, his father’s involvement with Amon and Dante, Sylvester…it was just
as she stated it to be…too much! But deep within her soul, Eve knew that
some things still weren’t adding up. And at the rate she was learning about
new things, it was only a matter of time before she finally knew the whole
truth.
Eve suddenly snapped her head in the direction of her room’s door, when
she heard noises coming from outside in the hallway. She made sure that Julian
was still asleep before carefully getting out of the bed and walking over
to the door. Pressing her ear to the door, she heard two people whispering,
which she distinctively figured out to be Joseph and Gabriel, footsteps and
then nothing. Once she suspected that they were gone, she opened the door
and stepped out. Leaning against the door with her arms folded, the hairs
on the back on her neck stood straight up and usually when that happened,
she knew something was wrong...and she didn’t like that one bit.
The following morning, Julian and Sylvester went out, to where, she didn’t
know but Eve didn’t really seem to care that much because with them gone,
this gave her the perfect opportunity to trail Joseph and Gabriel. When they
walked into the den and found her asleep on the couch, they quickly left without
saying a word. Once she knew they were gone, Eve stood up from the couch
and quickly followed closely behind them. She made sure to keep her distance
though, following them not too close, but not too far behind either.
As they entered into an area of the city that Eve never stepped foot in
before, she watched as Joseph suddenly detoured to the left and disappeared,
while Gabriel walked over the right and leaned up against the side of a rundown
building. Eve for her part, made sure they didn’t see her as she hid behind
the building Gabriel was leaning on. Looking back and forth, she readied herself
before jumping as high as she could on top of the building and then leaned
over the side slightly to watch, listen and wait.
Once he was inside, Joseph walked down the hall of the building until he
found what he was looking for. Knocking on the door once, he waited until
he heard a muffled voice tell him to come in. Stepping inside the room, he
closed the door carefully before turning around.
The room was too dark for him to make out anything, but he knew that he
was being watched closely.
“It’s just the two of you right? You sure you weren’t followed?” Joseph
heard the person ask in a thick, raspy voice.
“It’s just us, like you asked. Now why did you call me last night? You know
we weren’t suppose to be in contact with each other until it was time.”
“Because I don’t think I can wait another minute. I need to see her.”
“I see.” Joseph said, silence immediately filling the room.
“She doesn’t about me does she?” the person asked somberly.
“No. And we plan on keeping it that way, you promised.” Joseph stated.
“I know. I’ve waited all these years, so what’s a few more days right?”
Although Joseph couldn’t see their face, he knew that they were smiling.
“I have to go. We need to get back before the others arrive.” Joseph said
then turned to leave but the person spoke again.
“I don’t see how you can stand to be around him after what he pulled with
your wife, but that’s none of my business. I will say that I am sorry about
happened to her. Regardless of what she did, I know you loved her dearly.”
Joseph closed his eyes and nodded, his voice suddenly gone. Walking over
to the door, he opened it then shut it and began walking back the way he came
with tears slowly flowing down his face.
Even though Eve didn’t know exactly where Joseph disappeared to, wherever
he was, she heard him speaking to someone. And to make matters worse, she
had this nagging suspicion that they were talking about her…
This was definitely way out of hand now!
Realizing that she was still leaning over the side of the building and that
Joseph and Gabriel were now long gone, Eve shook her head to clear her thoughts
before taking off in the direction of Sylvester’s home. She had to make there
before they realized she was missing.
Twenty minutes later, Joseph and Gabriel walked into the den and found Eve
in the same exact spot she was in before they left. Walking over to the table,
Joseph sat down and placed his head in his hands. He knew the time had come,
but he didn’t want to believe it. The Book of Legends that he grew up believing
in turned out to be a lie, but the current book, the exact copy of the original
that Sylvester had in his possession, stated that the silent war was really
going to happen…and in three days too! He knew perfectly well that two days
wasn’t enough time to prepare for a war! Knowing this and keeping this other
secret from Eve was taking a serious toll on his conscience. He didn’t think
he could keep any more secrets like this from her much longer.
Eve arrived back at Sylvester’s home in record-breaking time. And for the
next couple of minutes, she stood by the window in the den staring out, deep
in thought.
Who was that person, Joseph was talking to?
How did he know anything about her? Yes, ‘he’…the person Joseph was talking
to, was a male.
And what the hell was going on with all of these people obsessing over her
anyways?!
The minute she heard the front door open and shut and the scents of both
Joseph and Gabriel colliding with her nose, she immediately ran over to the
couch and hopped over the arm, just as the two men walked inside. Eve waited
a few more minutes before fake yawning and sitting up on the couch, stretching
her arms over her head in the process.
“Well look who’s finally awake.” Gabriel said playfully.
“What time is it?” Eve asked, fake yawning again before smacking her lips.
“Way pass time for you to get up.” Joseph teased while Eve rolled her eyes.
“I see Julian and Sylvester aren’t back yet.” She observed before standing
up.
“Yeah. We woke up a few hours ago then went out for breakfast.” Joseph blurted
out.
Eve knew that was damn lie, but she decided to keep quiet for the time being.
“The two of you are getting along better I see.”
Gabriel nodded.
“Just for now.” Joseph quickly replied.
Eve and the guys spent the rest of the morning reconstructing the plan that
was laid out a few weeks earlier. It was during this time that she finally
figured out what was wrong with it, but chose to keep it to herself. Around
one o’clock in the afternoon, Sylvester and Julian finally returned. As soon
as Julian stepped foot through the front door, he sniffed Eve out then walked
into the den, grabbed her by the hand and dragged her down the hall into their
room.
Once inside, Julian slammed the door shut, walked over to a confused looking
Eve and pulled her into a deep passionate kiss before burying his face in
her neck.
What the hell is going on?! Eve thought as she continued to let Julian hold
her close. Suddenly, she was jarred from her thoughts when she felt wetness
on her neck. Right then and there, she knew Julian was crying…but why?
“Julian…” she said softly.
“I can’t lose you again Eve, I can’t…” he mumbled quietly in a broken voice.
“Of course not, you know that. I promised you that remember? Julian, what’s
going on?” she whispered as she pulled back a little, to stare into his eyes.
“I…” Julian started but stopped.
He hated this.
Eve had every right to know about what was going to happen in the next three
days, but he couldn’t tell her. Julian never thought that he would have to
keep something of this magnitude from her, but knew he had to. Even though
he couldn’t tell her the truth directly, that didn’t mean he couldn’t tell
her the truth in so many words…
“Julian…?” Eve was seriously worried now. She’d never see him like this
before.
“Don’t fight when the time comes Eve…let me be the one to fight for you.”
He whispered softly.
“Why?” she raised an eyebrow in suspicion. “Why don’t you want me to fight?”
“Just don’t.”
“That’s not an answer. I’ve waited a long time to have my revenge and when
I’m this close to getting it, you tell me don’t? Why not Julian? Answer me
that!” She snapped before tearing away from him.
Taking a deep breath, “I already told you. I can’t lose you again and I’m
afraid I will if you fight damn it!” he snapped back as anger quickly overcame
him.
“And I already told you that it’s not gonna happen again! God Julian…” Eve
shouted, then threw her hands up in the air before placing them over her heart.
“I love you so much. I love you with all my heart and soul. You’re the first
and only man I will ever love like this...EVER!” she shouted again as hot
tears started flowing down her face before her voice turned cold. “But I
will not let you stop me from my having revenge. I won’t…”
Julian was pissed. No, on second thought, he was beyond pissed! Damn it
all to hell, she just didn’t get it! He was just trying to protect her, but
ohh no, she wasn’t about to have that.
Damn that pride of hers…
This sucked royally because he couldn’t tell her why he wanted to protect
her in the first place! But he wasn’t about to give up just yet.
He would make her see things his way, whether she wanted to or not…
Before Eve even had to chance to turn around and leave, Julian had her pressed
up against the door. His breathing was irregular and his heart was beating
at a monstrous pace, as his fangs hovered dangerously close to her neck. Suddenly
the scent of her anger collided with his nose hard, as well as the scent
of arousal...
This was one of those rare moments when Eve found herself totally taken
by surprise... and she was mad as hell. Never in a million years would she
have ever suspected Julian of pulling something like this on her.
“Why do you have to be so damn stubborn? Why won’t you let me protect you
just this one time?” Julian asked in a deep husky voice, as he dipped his
head lower and placed warm, sensuous, open mouth kisses on her neck.
What kind of woman did he take her for?! There was no way in hell she was
going to let him get away with this because she too knew a little bit about
the art of seduction…or bet yet, how to counter it…
“Because I’m a grown woman and I can hold my own.” Eve said, refusing to
give in to him. There was no way she was going to break first…
“Is that so?” Julian whispered breathlessly as he placed his left hand over
her right breast and slowly began massaging her warm, round mound through
her tight fitted shirt.
Stifling a moan, “Yes, it is…” Eve whispered back before pushing him away.
“I will not let you seduce me into not fighting! You can’t stop me from taking
my revenge.” She huffed and folded her arms across her chest.
Julian rolled his eyes and sighed. Damn it, he thought he was making progress.
“Fine. You win. But I will not let you out of my sight again. Wherever you
go, I follow.” He said with determination.
“Even to the restroom?”
“Yep…everywhere.”
The time had finally come. Everything was almost set. All that he and Dante
had accomplished over the last century was nearly complete…all except for
the most important piece. Amon walked over to bookshelf in the corner of his
room and pulled out the original copy of the Book of Legends.
Everything stated so far in the book had come true. In three days, the silent
war was going to begin. All of his brotherhood followers as well as his brother’s
coven would finally join together, and take over the world. And those who
refused to pledge alliance…would perish.
Staring into the candlelit flames, Amon’s eyes narrowed and an evil smirk
appeared at the corner of him mouth.
“At the strike of twelve midnight in two days, the battle field with be
set and Eve will finally be mine. That's right...mine. Did Dante really think,
that I would just let him have her? The fool…her blood is the key to everything!
With her blood flowing through my veins, I will be unstoppable. His coven
will be mine, and mine alone…and so will she. She is the chosen one, the one
to end it all, but she just met her match. She thought Dante was a bastard,
but she ain’t seen nothing yet.” A sinister chuckle escaped Amon lips as he
slammed the book shut.
