Chapter XXII
{Flashback}
“Eve…” Julian called out to her as she began walking away.
“Do you know what really makes this situation hurt the most?” Eve
mumbled quietly.
“No.”
“Is the fact that you didn’t believe in me...in us…”
Julian stepped forward.
“I do believe in us Eve, I believe in you, but…” Eve held her hand
up to cut him off.
“See that’s just it, there should be no ‘but’ anywhere.” she whispered
somberly before walking away from Julian and Sylvester. Yet again she needed
to clear her head.
{Flashback ends}
Eve hadn’t felt this miserable in a long time, not since the death of her
family all those years ago. Over and over again, she replayed one of the
last sentences that escaped Julian’s lips earlier.
“I do believe in us Eve, I believe in you, but…”
A lone tear rolled on her face before she quickly wiped it away.
Why couldn’t he just believe in her damn it?!
Was it that hard for him to get over the fact that she had the right fight?!
Damn it Julian! Damn it Sylvester!
Well she was going to prove them both wrong tonight. That part about her
killing both Dante and Amon, but Amon killing her was never going to happen.
Never…
Julian was at a lost for words when low and behold, Eve’s supposedly dead
father Uriah stood stock in front of him. But that all changed when Gabriel
informed everyone that Eve was gone. The second he heard the word ‘gone’,
attached to the sentence involving Eve’s name, he went berserk! Where the
hell was his mate?!
“What the hell do you mean she’s gone?!” Julian shouted.
“She’s not here Julian.” Gabriel said before walking over to Julian and
handing him a piece of paper.
“What is it?” Sylvester said.
Julian’s eyes grew huge with fright as he read the note Eve left for him.
“Julian…” Joseph said.
“No…” Julian whispered in disbelief. “Sylvester we can’t move out tomorrow
morning, we have to move out now!”
Sylvester was taken back.
“She went after them, didn’t she?” Uriah suddenly asked.
“Julian, we have to stick to the plan.” Joseph said.
“Screw the damn plan! I will not let her do this alone.” Julian lowered
his head. “I should’ve just agreed with Eve, but I didn’t and now… Either
you come with me right this second or I’m out!” Julian looked back up and
growled.
Silence-
“Bastards.” Julian snarled, then turned to leave but was stopped by Uriah.
“I’ll come with you. Sylvester has to stay here, he knows that.” Uriah
looked at Sylvester, before following Julian out.
Once Sylvester knew that Julian and Uriah were gone, he leaned down on
the couch and placed his head in his hands.
“What did he mean by that Sylvester? Why couldn’t you go?” Joseph blurted
out.
“Because it wasn’t my time to go.” Sylvester mumbled before standing up
and walking over towards the doorway. “We move out tomorrow morning at dawn.”
And with that, he left Gabriel and Joseph to themselves.
Julian was driving like a bat out of hell as he wove in and out of traffic.
He needed to find Eve fast. As he drove, Uriah sat quietly beside him with
his eyes closed.
“You’re really quiet old man. I want some answers.” Julian said.
“Where do you want me to start?”
“From the beginning. I want to know everything.”
{Flashback}
1838
Ever since he was a little boy living in the south, weird dreams plagued
him daily. At first, he couldn’t understand them but as he got older, he
realized that these weird dreams of his were becoming a reality. Around the
age of fourteen, he began having dreams about creatures, he never knew existed.
Nothing but death and misery surrounded them. And as always, whatever he
dreamt about came true.
Soon after having these dreams, many people, regardless of what skin
color they were, turned up dead…the blood drained from their bodies. His
parents, who were slaves, fearing for their only son’s life took the risk
and decided to escape up north…only they didn’t make it.
After all of the traveling, and alone for the first time in his life,
he made it up north to the state of Ohio. For the first couple of years,
it was hard for him to find work since he was poorly educated and when he
did, he barely had enough money to feed himself. It wasn’t until he turned
sixteen that things changed, when he saved the life of a woman from being
assaulted.
The woman was eternally thankful that he saved her life, decided to
introduce him to her husband, a man by the name of Micah Northridge. As
soon as the two met, they hit it off quickly. As time passed, they became
the closest of friends…so close that he opened up to Micah about his dreams.
At first he was worried that Micah didn’t believe him, but he was quite was
surprised when Micah stated he did believe him, for he too knew about those
strange creatures. After that, they began their research.
1842
A few years passed, and the two of them learn quite a few things.
First, those creatures were called Vampires, and secondly, they learned
of something very disturbing. Through his dreams, they learned of an impending
silent war, which was to happen in the year two thousand and six…long after
they were gone. So to pass down this information, they began writing a book
called the Book of Legends.
{Flashback ends}
“I don’t know why I began having these dreams. I just did, unexpectedly.
And they kept coming true. Later on through another one of my dreams, I
learned that Micah and I were suppose to meet. I always wondered why I received
this dream late, but never found out.” He mumbled to himself. “Anyways as
you can see, Dante and Amon were already years ahead of us. But through my
dreams, Micah and I were able to catch up.” Uriah whispered.
“Go on.” Julian said.
{Flashback}
Somehow, word began to spread throughout the underground about
this so-called Book of Legends, and the two brothers mainly involved, didn’t
take it too well. He didn’t know how the book was leaked, but soon after,
many people living around them were turning up dead. Fear began to creep
within his soul. He began to blame himself for their deaths.
If only he kept quiet.
Fearing for his life yet again, and those close to him, he decided
to go into hiding with the intent of hopefully spare the lives of Micah, his
wife Daphne and their six-year-old son David.
After months of traveling and hiding, he ended up in the city of Boston.
While walking down the street one hot summer day, he met a woman by the
name of Tanya Lincoln. Upon meeting her, it was then that he realized that
this was the woman he dreamt about years earlier as a little boy…his future
wife and the mother of his future child.
1847
Five years quickly passed after he left Ohio. He first arrived there
as a parentless fourteen-year-old boy with nothing but left an educated
grown man with enough. He and Tanya married a few months after he arrived
in Boston and three years later, Tanya gave birth to their only child, a
daughter named Eve. He even changed his name from Uriah Warren, Warren Johnson.
He had to make sure no one would ever find him.
Life was going great until that day came. And the sad thing about
it is…he knew this day would come ahead of time. They had finally found
him and approached Tanya for some information. Naturally she didn’t know
his real name, so she couldn’t help them. When she returned home that night
and told him what happened, he had no choice by to tell her the truth.
Facing possibly one of the hardest choices in his life, he waited
three days before making his decision. He waited patiently until Tanya went
to sleep that night, got out of bed softly and kissed her tenderly on the
cheek. He then exited their room and visited his little Eve as she slept
peacefully in her bed one last time, before disappearing again.
{Flashback ends}
“So you just abandoned your wife and daughter?! You bastard!” Julian snarled.
“I didn’t want to but I had to do it. If I didn’t, then they would’ve been
killed once they found out the truth. You don’t think I wish I could’ve
stayed. I wanted to see my daughter grow up too, but I knew this would happen!”
Uriah shouted.
“Then how are you still here and not dead?” Julian suddenly asked.
Uriah sighed. “I wasn’t completely truthful with the book. After my ‘supposed’
death, I kept the rest of my life hidden.”
“Why?”
“Because I’m the real reason Eve is the way she is, not Dante.”
Coming to a stop in front of an old beat down fence, Eve stared at the
building up ahead. Something about this place, the area surrounding it was
familiar…like she’d been her before. Slowly, she opened the fence and stepped
inside. Sniffing through the air carefully, Eve found nothing. No scent
of humans or vampires anywhere. Something was wrong and it was a little
too quiet.
Reaching behind, Eve pulled out her one of her pistols, an STI Xcaliber
.450 then proceeded with caution as she slowly walked towards the build. Once
she was a good ten feet in front of the building, alarms began to go off
in her head. Sniffing through the air again, Eve was surprised to find that
she was surrounded.
How the hell did that happen?!
“Stop right there! Drop your weapon or else!” someone called out. A bright
light was then shined down on her from up above.
Narrowing her eyes, out the corner of her eyes Eve was able to make out
two people heavily armed, she then felt two more behind her and looked up
top, found two more as well.
Six…
Six mortals…
Shrugging her shoulders nonchalantly, Eve slowly began placing her gun
down on the ground below before a mischievous smirk appeared upon her face.
They never saw it coming…
Gunfire erupted as the bright light that was shining down on Eve suddenly
went out. One of the men who was standing behind Eve suddenly went airborne,
while the other one was knocked unconscious by a series of fists and kicks.
Next, the two men who Eve saw out the corner of her eyes, went down hard
as she fired one shot hitting one of them in the leg and then hitting other
one with a straight right jab. The two above starting firing again as they
heard the screams of pain and anguish from the others below, but Eve was
nowhere in sight. Before either had a chance to comprehend what was going
on, they were on the ground holding their arms, screaming in agony as two
more shot rang out.
When Eve was certain there would be no more interruptions, she once again
proceeded ahead with caution. Instead of directly entering through the front
door, Eve detoured to the back of the building and entered though an air
duct.
Inside, she decided to draw her other pistol, this one a Taurus Model PT100,
then continued on. The hairs on the back of Eve’s neck were standing tall
now and alarm signals began going off in her head again. Eve suddenly stilled
in her walking…someone was standing behind her. In the next instant, a white
flash appeared before her eyes and then everything went black.
