The Awakening - (Evian) - Chapter Six

Chapter VI
The following morning, Eve woke up very grumpy. She tossed and turned
all night because of Julian and what he did to her. She had acted like a
naïve, powerless woman who couldn’t handle an aggressive man pursing
her. Then she remembered what she was and became furious! Her eyes flashed
light blue and her face became twisted in a snarl. She had to count to ten
at least five times to calm down her raging blood. Never again would she
let that man make her a weak, emotional woman…NEVER!
Julian stayed clear of Eve the minute she awakened and came into the kitchen.
He didn’t know what possessed him to be so aggressive towards her the night
before, but he didn’t regret it one bit. The moment he tasted her lips, he
knew right then and there that she was woman for him, regardless of how old
she was or what she was. Never had a woman stirred such desire and passion
out of him before. She was fiery when she wanted to be and yet at times,
she was caring and compassionate.
As they drove away from the cabin, Julian looked out the corner of his
right eye to glance at Eve before he decided to speak. “Eve I just….”
Eve snapped her head in his direction and gave him a deathly looking glare.
“Don’t say anything to me.” She sneered bearing her fangs.
“What the hell is wrong with you?!” Julian snapped back.
“If you know what’s good for you, then I suggest you turn around and drive
the damn car.” She forced out. She then closed her eyes and began to count
to ten again.
There was no way in hell Julian was about to let her talk to him like
that! Suddenly, he veered off the road to the right and slammed down hard
on the brakes causing them both to jerk violently in their seats.
“I don’t know what the hell is wrong with you, but I’ll be damned if you
think you can talk to me like that!” Julian shouted.
“Ugh…” Was all Eve could say, as she yanked off her seatbelt and hopped
out the car… she didn’t have time for this sh*t!
Julian was out the car the minute she was and ran after her. “Don’t you
dare run away from me Eve!” He sneered as he reached out to grab hold of
her arm…
Big mistake…
The second Julian grabbed hold of her arm, he found himself on the ground
looking face up into the eyes of a very dangerous looking Eve. He could see
it in her eyes that she was pissed, but that didn’t scare him one bit. The
way her long dark hair cascaded over her shoulders and the way her light
blue eyes flashed before him was breathtaking. Just looking at her like this,
drove Julian to the breaking point as he reached behind her head with his
left hand and brought her face down to his, slamming their lips together.
Upon impact, Julian poured everything he had into the kiss as it turned
out to be rough and fierce. He then wrapped his right arm around her waist
to flip them over so that now, he was on top of her. Once she was on her
back, Julian reached out with his right hand and brought it up to the left
side of her face as he refused to relinquish her lips. Eve then fisted her
hands tightly around his waist as she gave him everything she had. So much
for her not letting him make her weak again…
When the dire need for air became abundantly clear to them both, they
separated slowly but didn’t rise from their position on the side of the
road. Eve’s half lidded eyes never left Julian’s face as he stared down
at her, trying to catch his breath. He literally rocked her world with that
fiery kiss he just bestowed upon her. She closed her eyes as she tried to
catch her breath too, then opened them revealing light brown orbs before
leaning back up and claiming Julian’s lips again. This time, instead of
the kiss being rough and fierce like the previous one, this one was soft
and tender.
Minutes later, they were back in the car driving around looking for a
place to stay when Eve turned in her seat and began staring at Julian’s
face.
“I want to apologize for earlier Julian.” Eve mumbled, then looked down
at her hands. “It’s just that, I’m not use to this you know?” This was hard…she
wasn’t use to apologizing either.
“No I don’t.” Julian answered truthfully.
Why was he making this apology harder then it should be? “I’ve never let
a man this close to me before.” She stated dryly.
Taking his eyes off of the road ahead, Julian took a quick look at Eve.
‘Oh.’ He thought to himself. “Well then I should be the one apologizing
to you, but I’m not because I don’t regret what’s happening between us.”
Julian said seriously.
Damn him! “I’m not use to these type of emotions that you’re invoking
from within me. I need some time to sort them out!” Eve shook her head then
ran a hand through her hair. Suddenly, she slapped her right hand to her
forehead...she did not mean to say that out loud.
“So I was right, you do feel something for me.” Julian grinned.
Silence-
“Eve, you can’t deny what you feel for me. It’s nothing wrong with it.”
He said in a playful voice.
“I never said it was.” Eve mumbled under her breath.
“What was that?”
“Nothing.” she said then turned back in her seat with her arms folded
and looked out the window. Once she was back facing the front, a sign a
few feet ahead of them caught her eye. “Julian, there’s a motel coming up
to the right.”
“No it isn’t.” Julian said.
Eve scoffed, “Yes there is, I can see it you know.” She looked at Julian
again.
Ten minutes later, just like Eve said, they arrived in front of the motel.
They had been driving for six hours nonstop since their little tryst on the
side of the road and Julian’s back was killing him. Stepping out of the
car to stretch his back, Julian then watched as Eve stepped out next with
a frown on her face.
“What’s the matter?” he asked curiously.
“You don’t want to know.” Eve mumbled quietly then wiggled her nose in
disgust. The moment she opened the car door, the scent hit her hard. Why
couldn’t people be civilized enough to have relations in their own room instead
of on the front desk!
“Are you sure nothing’s wrong?” Julian asked again as he walked over to
stand in front of her.
“Yeah.” Eve flashed a fake smile then went to gathered up her belongings
from the back seat. Julian stood there stomped, ‘What was that all about?’
he thought, then shrugged shoulders then followed behind her.
Four hours later, he looked out the airplane as smile spread across his
face. Here he was…the town of Harmony. Once the airplane touched down on
the runway, he exited the side door and breathed in a whiff of fresh air.
For the last hundred years, whenever he was close on Eve’s trail, he could
always sense her and now would be no different. Closing his eyes, he began
to tap into her conscience.
I’m coming for you Eve…
Eve had just fallen asleep when she heard that voice again. Her eyes immediately
snapped open, and she sat up straight in the bed. ‘That voice…’
Eve…
“Who are you?!” Eve shouted as she bared her fangs.
Eve…
“Damn it! Leave me alone!” Eve jumped up from the bed.
Julian ran out of the bathroom in nothing but a towel on after hearing
Eve shouting.
“What’s going on?” He asked Eve, but she completely ignored him as her
eyes traveled up and down his masculine, semi-built body…her face instantly
turned red. “Eve…”
“Nothing…” she breathed out. “I’m fine.” The voice was gone.
“Are you sure?”
Eve nodded then watched as Julian walked back into the bathroom and closed
the door. The minute Julian stepped back into the bathroom; Eve hurried over
to her clothes and got dressed. She needed some fresh air.
When Julian was finally done with his shower, he walked out to the bathroom,
this time fully clothed and but found Eve nowhere in sight. He then walked
over to the other side of the bed and pulled out his cell phone. He and Eve
had been on the run for nearly four weeks now, and he never had the chance
to find out what was going on back at home.
“Hello.” The person on the other end of the phone line said.
“Max, it’s me.” Julian said then pulled the phone away from his ear when
Max began shouting. Timidly, he placed his phone back on his ear. “Max calm
down please?”
“Where the hell are you Julian?! I’ve had people out looking for you for
days…”
“I’m alright.” Julian replied then placed his feet on the bed and leaned
back. “Max, I need your help.” He said in a serious tone.
“Julian, your house was trashed. I’ve never seen that much blood before.
And who were those dead men in your house?! What’s going on Julian?” Max
asked in a worried tone.
“I don’t know how to explain this to you.” He sighed. “Listen…I’m going
to give you some directions and once you get here, I’ll tell you everything.”
Julian said then proceeded to give Max his location. “Max, you can’t tell
anyone that you’ve heard from me, alright?”
“Julian…”
“Please Max…you just can’t. And make sure no one follows you either.”
After leaving the motel, Eve wandered aimlessly around in the dark. That
voice…it was the same voice that haunted her in her dreams for more than
hundred years. She knew it had to be the man that sired her, but just who
the hell was he?! She sighed then continued walking. Suddenly, the hairs on
the back of her neck stood up straight. Turning around, she looked behind
her. She was so into her own thoughts that she failed to notice that she was
being followed…until it was too late.
“Don’t move any further creature.” The female who was following her said.
“This here following me is really becoming a problem.” she scoffed. “State
your name hunter.” Eve commanded.
“Arianna Lester, fifth generation vampire hunter.” She stated proudly.
Eve rolled her eyes, “How did you know I was here?”
“People have been talking...demons too.” Arianna smirked.
“So Ms. Lester, what is your problem with me?” Eve asked dryly.
“I’ve been haunting you for the past ten years. Tonight I will have my
revenge.”
Eve looked the young woman up and down.
“What did I ever do to you?”
“You murdered my great-great-grandfather.” Arianna sneered. “Does the
name Sylvester Northridge ring a bell?”
Eve’s face suddenly paled. “Oh no…”
Max finally arrived outside of the motel Julian was staying in. Climbing
out of his rusty 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass, he walked over to the room Julian
said he was staying in and knocked twice. When the door opened, he walked
in as Julian closed the door behind them.
“It’s good to see you again my boy.” Max said as he pulled Julian into
a warm hug.
“It’s good to see you too Max.” Julian grinned.
“How did you end up all the way out here?” Max asked.
“You have to sit down for this.” Julian sighed then ran a hand through
his hair. Once Max was seated, Julian began telling him everything. Every
once in a while, when Julian said something weird, Max would look at him
as if he was nuts. When he was finished, he sat down beside him and patiently
waited for Max to say something.
Silence-
“Well…”
Max turned to face Julian before replying, “Are you on drugs son?”
Julian’s mouth gaped open.
“No!” Julian shrieked. “I know this sounds crazy, but it’s the truth.”
“You were attacked by vampires and vampire hunters? Julian…” Max started
but Julian cut him off.
“When Eve returns, then I’ll prove to you that I’m not crazy.” Julian
huffed and folded his arms.
“So you do remember him…” Arianna spat.
Eve just remained quiet. Never had she imaged that coming to the town
of Harmony, she would have to dredge up some many painful memories.
“Answer me damn it!” Arianna shouted as she approached Eve.
Lowering her head, “It was never my intention to hurt anyone, much less
kill them.” Eve whispered painfully.
“But you did…you and your mate!”
Eve then looked up just in time to see Arianna about ready to punch her,
so she immediately jumped back.
“Mate?” Eve said, confusion evident on her face.
“You heard me. You and your mate killed him in cold blood.”
“I don’t know what you’re about. I don’t have a mate.”
“Liar!” Arianna ran at her again.
“I’m not lying. I don’t have mate!” Eve shouted as she dodged Arianna’s
punches.
“You bare his mark, so that makes you his mate.” This time as she drew
back to punch Eve, Eve countered stepped the attack and grabbed her from
behind by both arms.
“Tell me his name!” Eve commanded.
“Let go of me!” Arianna struggled.
“You tell me his name now!” Eve commanded again as tears began flowing
down her face.
