The Best Laid Plans...Chapter 2

Nurses Station. Emily and Nikolas get off the elevator. They run into Monica.

"Well, Emily, Nikolas. What are you doing here?"

"Nikolas works here. And so do I."

"Really? Since when."

"Since I told Emily that the program could use someone just like her, Dr. Quartermaine."

"Are you sure you're up to it Emily?"

"I'm fine. Nikolas thinks that I can do the job, and so do I. I am not glass Monica, I won't break."

"I know it. It's just the mother in me. Well, I should be going. I have a lecture to give to the interns. I'll see you at home later?"

"Sure."

Monica leaves. Nikolas and Emily go to Pediatric Center.

"I can't believe how hovering my mother gets sometimes."

"Don't knock it. Some of us don't have a mother to hover."

"Nikolas....I'm sorry. God, I can be such a jerk sometimes."

"It's no problem. And Emily, you're never a jerk....So, you want me to tell you about your duties?"

"Absolutely. I know that I must sound like the strangest teenager ever...but I CANT WAIT to go to work."

Dara gets to the airport. Her Small commuter airline-thanks again to her cheap bosses, was overrun with passengers. Seem that they had to share the hanger with the private jet people.

Jensen's law was in full force, when Jax arrives. He sees Dara and some ticket agent going 12 rounds.

"What do you mean you don't have my reservation and that your next 3 flights are FULL and that I won't be able to go to NYC until 10:30 a.m. tomorrow. My FIRST meeting is at 9:15 a.m. And I CAN'T miss it. Get me a flight on ANOTHER airline."

" I'm checking now, Ms. Jensen....Sorry, but the horrible rain and fog the last couple of days, yesterday in particular, flights to NYC have been packed, booked, and without any openings. Sorry Ms. Jensen, but you won't be getting to NYC tonight by plane."

"I can't believe this crap. YOU lose my reservation and I am being punished for it. This is ridiculous."

Jax overhears Dara and comes over.

"Ms. Jensen. How are you? I was wondering if there was anything I can do to help."

"Unless you can get my to NYC tonight, there's nothing I need from you."

"Well, I might be able to help. I have my private jet here. And I am on my way to NYC. I would be more than jappy to give you a lift to the Big Apple."

"I just helped chase your wife around the country. Why, in God's name, would you do anything to help me?"

" I don't know. You've caught me in a generous mood. So, are you coming?"

"Yeah...OK..Whatever."

They get aboard Jax's jet and proceed to NYC. Neither one spoke a word. When they land, Dara's nightmare continues. Her office has messed up again and she has nowhere to go...the entire city if booked up due to 6 major conventions in town and a major sporting evet. Dara is like, great, crummy conference and nowhere to stay.

Jax sees her plight and once again comes to the rescue.

"You come with me, and I'll get you a room."

"They say the whole city is entirely booked and out of rooms."

"NO CITY is ever entirely booked. Just trust me. Shall we go?"

Jax and Dara get into his limo and drive to the Carlyle. Upon Jax's entrance, the manager comes to greet him.

"Ah, Mr. Jacks. It's a pleasure to see you again."

"Mr. Naughton. It's always good to be back at my NYC home away from home. Is everything ready?"

"Yes, sir. The place has been spruced up and all the specifics that you like have been arranged."

"Thank you. I was wondering, if there was any room in the Carlyle for my friend, Ms. Jensen?"

"As a matter of fact, I have a suite that was just cancelled."

"Suite?"

"That sounds perfect. If you could have a bellhop take Ms. Jensen's things to her room."

"Of course, sir. (turning to Dara) Nice to meet you, Ms. Jensen."

Mr. Naughton leaves. Dara is livid.

"What the hell was THAT?!"

"I don't know what you mean."

"How could you get me a suite HERE! My bosses will, of course, never endorse a bill at the Carlyle, and this trip will really bit me in the end. This is a 5 day conference. That's FOUR whole night. I can suspect how expensive a room is here, and my expense account will barely cover 50%, I'm guessing, of the nightly costs. I'm going to be the one who ends up paying, as usual."

"You don't have to pay a thing. It was my idea to bring you here, so I will pick up the bill."

"You know.....your arrogance knows NO bounds, does it? I don't need your charity."

"What charity? If situations arise as a result of what I do, then I make sure to resolve the situations. Now, if you want to go find another room, in Manhattan, at this time of day, with all these conventions in town, be my guest. I don't need this garbage. Have a nice life, Ms. Jensen."

Jax begins to walk away.

"Mr. Jacks, wait. I'm sorry. I've had a REALLY bad day, bad summer really, and I just took it out on you. How about we start over?"

Extends her hand

"How do you do, I'm Dara Jensen."

"Jasper Jacks, and nice to meet you. You staying here, at the Carlyle?"

"It does seem that way. This terribly kind man arranged things for me."

"He sounds like a prince of a guy."

"Well, he THINKS he is.."

laughs "Well...maybe a toad who needs to be kissed?"

"Possibly. But not by me."

"Touche."

"Well, Mr. Jacks. You've given me transportation here and a place to put my weary head. The least I can do is buy you dinner. I did have a reservation.....if you want to go."

"Oh? Where?"

"Uptown. Harlem. Sylvia's. Think you can handle it?"

"I've been trekking in Nepal, on Safari in Kenya and explored the Amazon. I think I can handle Harlem."

"No, my question was can Harlem survive YOU? You give me 20 minutes, and I'll meet you back in the lobby."

"Is that a real 20 minutes or a woman's 20 minutes?"

" I'm going to let that sexist comment pass, because I'm half starving and can already taste the catfish appetizers in my mouth. We'll argue about your chauvanism over dinner."

"Alexis, who was that made your so angry you slammed the phone?"

"It was the contractors Stefan. They say that there might be a delay in rebuilding the stables, and I was telling them that it a delay was completely unacceptable."

"Oh. Well, I was going to go and do some work in the study. Will you be here for dinner?"

"I had planned to."

"Well, see you then."

"Fine."

Stefan leaves the conservatory. Alexis breathes a sigh of relief. She did not know what Stefan would think if he knew the truth as to the other party on the telephone. Alexis poured herself a drink. I need one, she thought. If my plans work out, then all will be well. But am I unleashing something that I can't control? Alexis wonders.

"Your divorce isn't final."

Bobbie had replayed over and over the message on her answering machine. She could not believe the words. She was STILL married to Stefan. Man, what a shock and a surprise. What was she going to do. With the recent problems that she's been having at work, and her suspicions that Stefan was behind them, Bobbie was thinking that she should not roll over this time. That she let Stefan off too easy. That this time she should be smart about things. Professional. Who should I call for advice? Her present lawyer? Nope. He was efficient enough, but not in the Cassadine league.  She needed someone who could point her in the direction of a big boy, a shark, someone that would not be intimidated by Stefan and the Cassadine machine. BINGO! She knew who she'd turn to for help.
She looked in the phone book and dialed the number. Hoping that help would be there.

"Hello, Justus? This is Bobbie. I wanted to know if I could come and see you tomorrow"
