The Best Laid Plans-Chapter 72
“ Well, I think I’ve taken up enough of your time, Bobbie. I better be getting back.”
” Ok. Fine. Bye, Carly.”
” Bye, Bobbie.”
Carly leaves and Bobbie finally dozes off once again. When Carly gets back to her room, she finds a visitor.
“ Jason?”
“ Carly, what are you doing out of bed? You know the doctor said you needed rest.”
” I was just visiting..”
” Bobbie. Yeah, I know. I thought all she did was upset you.”
” Most times. But, I was up, and so, I found myself around her room.”
” Did she upset you?”
” No, she didn’t. We had a talk.”
” No yelling?”
” No. I think we must’ve done the world record for the two of us being in a room with one another and not fighting. I asked her a question. And, she answered it.”
“ Good.”
” You don’t want to know what the question was?”
“ No. It’s none of my business.”
“ True. You’re right. It really is noone’s business but Bobbie’s.”
“ Are you softening towars her?”
” I don’t know. We just had a civil conversation, that’s all. And, she’s still the woman who has other priorities. “
“ Like her baby.”
” Yes, like the other child, not yet born, who has already leapfrogged above me in Bobbie’s eyes.”
“ Carly, couldn’t it be that Bobbie is doing all that she can to bring her kid into the world? Just like you.”
” Don’t take her side, Jason.”
” I’m not, Carly. Just pointing out the obvious. She wants the kid. She’s going to do what she can to have the kid. Nothing else matters. That’s no slight on you.”
” Yeah, well, Bobbie lives to slight me.”
“ And, you live, to be dissed.”
” PARDON?”
” You heard me. Oh, by the way, I took care of the ‘Lorraine’ matter.”
“ The ‘Lorraine’ matter? Jason.....you didn’t.”
” No, Carly, I didn’t. But, she won’t be a problem.”
” Thanks.”
“ No problem.”
“ But, this doesn’t erase Tony as a threat. As soon as this baby’s born, he’s going to be all over it, like white on rice.”
“ I told you, I’ll handle Dr. Jones.”
“ OWWW!”
“ Carly, what’s wrong.”
” Oh My God, Jason. I think my water just broke.”
” I’ll go get a doctor.”

Bobbie has just finished the morning rounds by the doctor and nurses, when Tony comes in, with blueprints in his hand.
” Hello, Tony. What’s this?”
“ This..” He spreads the blueprints out on the moveable table in front of Bobbie, “ Is the remodeler’s plans for the new apartment that I am having done for me and the baby.”
” Baby? What baby?”
” My baby? The one with Carly?”
” Tony. Carly says that the baby is Jason’s.”
” And you believe her?”
” Yes, I do.”
” Well, she’s a liar. She’s been lying since the first day she hit town, and she’s really lying about this. See the plans. See the nursery, and playroom..”
Bobbie takes a closer look at the plans. “ Tony, this is the Brownstone!”
” Yes. I am taking Simone and Tom’s old apartments and combining them into one.”
“ Don’t you think you should have asked me first, about this.”
” Well, I’m telling you now.”
” Tony, I hadn’t broached this subject, but maybe it’s time that I do. I want you out of the Brownstone.”
” Out? Why?”
” Why? Tony, you’ve been carrying on an affair with my daughter for over a year now.”
” I didn’t know it.”
” Moot point, don’t you think? The damage is the same. The only reason I let you stay there, was because I wanted Lucas to have a safe environment for him to be able to see you, and I didn’t want you to move in with Carly. Now that it’s over, I want you out.”
” But, don’t you see? If I stay at the Brownstone, it will make my case against Carly even stronger. Having the baby near its brother, providing a stable influence for it. A strong familial environment.”
” Tony, DO YOU HEAR YOURSELF? Strong familial environment? Excuse me, but, have you forgotten, I’m the child’s GRANDMOTHER?!?! Tony, I know that things are complicated between us all. Finding out that Carly is my daughter is shocking for everyone. But, understand this. I wasn’t going to be in on it, when I thought she was simply the slut who broke up my marriage. I sure in hell, won’t be helping you now that I know she’s my daughter.”
” But, Bobbie, she’s a tramp. A harlot. She came into our lives with the express purpose of ruining them. She’s not fit to be a parent. This baby will be better off with me.”
” Oh, like LUCAS was going to be better off with you?”
” These are completely different situations.”
” Tell me, Tony. What makes them so different? Ok, let’s say for the sake of argument, that the baby IS yours. What is so different between me and Carly? We’ve both DARED to take YOUR child, and find other homes for the child: me, with Stefan and Carly, with Jason. We’ve seen fit to share our lives with men that just don’t cut your ‘high’ standards.”
” Yes. You’ve taken up with Stefan. I thought he was bad, but, that situation compares to what Carly’s done with my child.”
” How?”
“ Carly lives in a Penthouse.”
” I lived on an island.”
“ Carly’s surrounded by armed bodyguards.”
“ There was an armed security patrol on Spoon Island.”
” Jason’s a gangster.”
” No one’s been able to prove anything. Stefan is a Cassadine, and we KNOW what they’ve been capable of.”
“ You, unlike Carly, have shown deep capacity for love. Carly isn’t capable of it.”
” And, how in the hell do you know that? I happen to know that Carly loves her baby very much.”
“ The only concern that Carly has for this baby, is how she’s able to use it. She used it to keep onto me. Then, once Jason got his Penthouse and millions, she moved up on the ladder. She’s a moneyhungry little B@#$h.”
“ IF all Carly wanted was the money, then, why didn’t she go with Jason as soon as Robin left town. Jason had millions then. Monica told me so.”
“ She needed time in order to really lure Jason in. And, she’s morally unfit to be around a child.”
” Tony, this conversation is over. Please know that I am giving you a month to leave the Brownstone. And, another thing. Not a word about any of this to Lucas. That child has been through enough. And, until we know the whole story about Carly’s baby, there’s no need to tell him anything.”
“ I know the truth. That’s MY baby. And, I’m going to get it from her and that brain damaged criminal that she married. No child of MINE is going to be raised like that. I’m ashamed of you, Bobbie. I would have thought that you would have more caring for your grandchild than this.”
” Get the hell out of here.”
Tony grabs his plans and hurries out the door, where he promptly runs
into Stefan.
Stefan enters the room to see Bobbie is some discomfort.
” Barbara, are you alright? Should I call for a doctor?”
” I’m fine, Stefan. Just a little upset.”
” Because of him? What did Dr. Jones want?”
“ Something that he surely knew I would never approve of in a million years. So, why are you here, Stefan?”
“ I wanted to discuss you and Lucas moving back to Spoon Island.”

Dr. Newman is in with Carly and Jason.
” So, Doctor. How is Carly?”
“ Your wife is doing fine, Mr. Morgan. Oh, Carly. You are a fast worker.”
” What do you mean?”
” Your water JUST broke awhile ago, and you are already dialated 8.5 cm.”
” What does that mean?”
” When you hit 9.5, my dear, we’ll be taking you into the labor room. I have to say that I am concerned about your pressure. It seems to be getting higher. But, we’ll monitor it. Now is the time, though, that the two of you have to make some decisions.”
” What kind of decisions?”, Jason asks.
” Well, if Carly’s pressure keeps escalating, she will be vulnerable to a possible stroke. “
” A stroke? Carly’s young.”
” True. But, the human female body reacts differently to pregnancy. Sometimes, labor goes quickly, like it’s been doing. Other times, it fools you, and it could take maybe three or four more hours, just to dialate that last centimeter. But, Carly’s body isn’t likely to be able to take three or four more hours.”
“ So, what are you saying about me, Dr. Newman?”
“ That, maybe it’s time you think about having a cesaerean, Carly.”
“ Now?”
” No, not right now. But, I want you to give serious consideration to it. If we get the baby out, then, I wholeheartedly believe that your pressure will drop back into normal range. I’ll be back in another 30 minutes.” Dr. Newman leaves.
“ Jason, what do you think?”
“ Carly. I’m not a doctor. “
” But, Jason, they’re talking about cutting me open.”
“ I know. But, she seems to think that it’s the best chance to save you and the kid.”
“ I’m scared. I don’t know if I want anyone cutting on me. Jason, if anything happens to me..”
” Carly, it won’t.”
” Jason, I’m in the hospital, by baby is almost a month early, and I have complications. I need to be prepared for anything. So, you have to promise me Jason.”
” What?”
” That, whatever happens, you’ll make sure the baby is taken care of.”
“ Carly..”
” Jason, promise me.”
” OK. Whatever happens, the kid comes first.”
“ Good. Now that I have your promise, I know everything will be fine. OOWWW!”
“ What’s the matter?”
“ Just another contraction.” Carly talks to her belly. “ Well, kid, come on. I’m ready for you. I think.”

“ How is Lucas doing at Wyndermere, Stefan?”
“ He is adjusting quite well, Barbara. It is as if he’d never left.”
” But, we both know that isn’t true.”
” Yes. We do. We also know that Wyndemere is equipped to handle you and your condition. I have already arranged for the hiring of around the clock nurses. The helicopter will be stationed permanently on the island, in case en emergency arises. Barbara, it is time that you came home.”
“ MY home is the Brownstone, Stefan.”
“ I know that you own the Browstone, Barbara. But, you have to think of our child and its family. Can you honestly tell me that you believe that this child would be better off with you, at the Brownstone?”
” Honestly, Stefan, yes. I DO believe that this child would be better off without you in its life. I don’t doubt that you love Nikolas and Sasha. That you are completely devoted to them, but, they still have been under the Cassadine influence. And, quite frankly, I don’t know if I want that for my child.”
“ This child IS a Cassadine.”
” HALF a Cassadine, Stefan. The other half is Spencer, and mine. I am not sure that this child’s world should be your world. I have to protect my child, Stefan.”
” From its father?”
“ You don’t live or exist in a vacuum, Stefan. It’s not just you. It’s your Cassadine legacy. And, what if I don’t want that for this baby?”
“ What are you proposing, Barbara?”
” Quite frankly Stefan, I don’t know. I haven’t thought that far ahead. My only priority is bringing this baby into the world. Past that, I can’t say that I’ve considered anything, at all.”
“ Fine. Then, we will leave this discussion for now. I have to attend a meeting. I will be back in time, to hear Dr. Newman and Dr. Swanson’s consultation with you.”
” Good. See you later, then.”
“ Goodbye, Barbara.”
