The Imposter II (an alternate version), Chapter 5 (Evian)
by ejcrane
Eve turned over and looked at the clock on her nightstand. It read five-thirty
a.m. and Julien still hadn’t come to bed. She sighed and sat up, looking
for her robe. Finding it, Eve put it on and left their room.
As she walked down the stairs and turned towards the living area, she noticed
that the light in the library was still on. Eve then walked towards the
door and eased it open.
Julian was asleep on the couch with a light blanket covering him. He just
couldn’t go up to bed…to bed with Eve. Knowing that her soft, sensual, caramel
body was next to him…Julian didn’t know if he could control his urges…urges
to touch her, to smell her, to…taste her…
“Julien, sweetie,” she shook him, “Come to bed…”
Julian finally stirred and began talking in his sleep…
“Mmm, G-G-Gianna…honey…I’ll be up in a bit…”
Eve’s jaw tightened!
“‘GIANNA’?! WHAT THE HELL?!” Eve shouted!
Eve then grabbed the corner of the blanket and yanked on it, tossing Julian
onto the floor!
“What?” Julian blinked and found Eve standing over him…
“Who the hell is GIANNA? HUH, JULIEN?!”
“Oh, God, Eve…”
“You know…SAVE IT! I DON’T HAVE TIME FOR THIS SHI—” Eve growled and stormed
out of the library, while Julian tried to jump to his feet to follow her.
But, he was too late. By the time he got to their bedroom door, Eve had
already locked herself in…
“DAMNIT!” he hissed, “Eve, darling…come on…”
“GO TO HELL!”
“FINE…be a damn baby about this!” he hit the door and left.
At the breakfast table, no one said a word…NO ONE…
Everyone looked to Eve and then looked to the other end of the table to
Julian. Her eyes never met his. Julian peeked over at Eve while he took a
sip of his coffee.
“Well, Pilar, thank you for this wonderful breakfast, but I have to run…kids,”
Eve smiled, “I’ll see you when I get home…” and she pushed her chair back
in and left.
Soon, Julian jumped out of his chair and caught up to her before she ran
out the door.
“Eve, wait!” he grabbed her arm.
“Let go of me!”
“NO! Not until you let me explain…”
“Explain what?” she rolled her eyes.
“Gianna…is just a woman in…an,” he coughed, “adult film…”
“You were watching PORN in the library?! Knowing that the kids could’ve
easily walked in?!”
“Yes…I’m sorry, Eve…”
“Yeah, so am I,” she raised a brow, “And tonight…why don’t you cozy up
to that TAPE, because you sure aren’t cozying up to ME! Goodbye, Julien!”
Julian simply rolled his eyes and walked back into the dinning room.
“Kids, I’ll see you…” Julian said and grabbed his briefcase, “Damnit, I’m
going to be late to the office,” he said while looking at his watch, “Pilar,
prepare the missus’s favorite food tonight, por favor…”
Picking up the leftover food from Eve and Julian, Pilar raised a brow when
she heard Julien’s request…
When did he start speaking Spanish?
That night, Eve got on her side of the bed and pulled the covers over her,
and put her back to Julian.
She was still upset, he figured.
So, Julian did just as his wife had, and then closed his eyes…when just
then, Eve spoke.
“So, what was she doing in that video…that you liked?”
“‘That I liked’?”
Eve exhaled, exasperated.
“YES, Julien…what did she do that made you excited…”
“Nothing, Eve…nothing,” he groaned, unable to believe that she would ask
such a thing.
“WELL…she had to have done SOMETHING…”
“Okay…it was the way her body looked…”
“Oh.” Eve replied.
“It was your body I was picturing…” he said and watched as Eve suddenly
turned over to look at him.
And that’s when he made his move and pinned her down.
“I was picturing YOU in the movie, Eve…only you,” he whispered huskily
staring her in the eyes while he made up this ridiculous lie.
“Ohh, Julian…”
“Eve…” he whispered just as his face leaned in to plant a kiss on her lips,
but…
Eve turned her face to avoid his lips.
“So, you like her name and my body, hmm?”
“What?” he asked, totally confused.
“You said you were picturing my body, right? But, when you woke up…you
were calling out HER name,” Eve raised a brow, “Go to bed, Julien,” she
shoved him off of her and turned her back to him once more.
He propped his head on one elbow and stared at her back.
“Okay…I lied,” Julian whispered into her ear, “It wasn’t YOU I pictured
I was making love to…it was HER…I wanted to be with HER…”
Julian smiled and watched as her shoulders heaved up and then down. She
had begun crying.
“Eve…” he placed a hand on her bare shoulder.
“Don’t touch me…”
“…I-I’m sorry…” he tried to scoot closer to her to hold her.
“I said, ‘DON’T TOUCH ME!’,” she raised her voice and shrugged his hand
off.
“Eve…I’m sorry, I didn’t mean anything that I said, darling,” he nuzzled
her neck.
She finally turned over.
“Get your hands off of me!” she said through gritted teeth, prying his
hand off her shoulder, “Leave me the f*** alone, Julien!” she said, looking
him dead in the eye, and then turned back over, pulling the covers up to
her neck.
Julian didn’t know what to do. He had never seen her, or anyone else for
that matter, that angry. He couldn’t believe that he had just told her what
he did. Closing his eyes, Julian could’ve kicked himself for trying to make
Eve jealous.
Hours later, Julian was still wide awake, and still staring at her back.
He could tell by her breathing that she was asleep.
“I’m sorry, Eve,” he whispered to her back, “I truly am sorry…for being
such an a**hole,” he sighed, “…night.” He turned over and fell fast asleep.
She blinked her tears away. Why was Julien so different now? Why wasn’t
he the same man she once knew? Why was it that she felt as if she were falling
in love with someone new; someone that looked, but was totally different
from the husband she knew? She craved this man’s touch…his kisses…
Had she ever…this much?
She sighed and fell asleep…
