Chapter 18
The next night Julian had been waiting for Martin. He had a lot on his
mind lately but his sister’s situation had never been far from the front
of it. He knew that Martin would return to the mansion to sleep with his
mother after being with his sister and for Julian, which was just too much
disrespect for one man to handle. He held his spare gun, having given his
favorite to Simone, and enjoyed the surprised face he was greeted with.
“Where is your mother?” Martin asked. He tried to seem calm because this
was Julian. T.C. was beating him up and surely Martin could take him. That
was before he saw the gun.
“I gave her some tickets to go to a ballet with some friends. She won’t
be back for quite some time now. Sit. Come on, don’t be shy.” Julian smiled
and his eyes flashed.
“Listen, your sister is an adult and what we do in the privacy of our bed--”
“Her bed. Hers. Its not even her bed, its mother’s. She brought it over
when she married father, he put it in storage and gave it to Sheridan for
her cottage. Mostly because he was too cheap to get her a new one. Sheridan
took it as a sentimental gesture. But enough of that. I believe I told you
sit.”
Martin sat down did not know exactly what he was supposed to do. His life
had been slowly going downhill since that fateful night he left Pilar and
his five kids. He figured it was easier to save one afraid woman than to
take care of six people. He regretted his decision but he had never been
the father type. Pilar knew that. If only she had used birth control.
“Thinking about your life? I feel bad for Pilar, for years she loved you.
Thought you were some kind hero. Your children blamed my family for your
disappearance.”
“I don’t need to be judged by someone who tried to kill his sister.”
“Awww, too bad. I don’t care. Listen, I’ve got things to do so this will
be short. I will kill you if you continue to see my sister. I will kill
you if you stay in Harmony. I will kill you and no one will care. I will
make it seem like an accident. Sheridan will be upset at first but she’ll
get over it. Now, you are going to leave town after I renew my vows. It will
be a quiet exit. You will leave a note for my mother, declaring your love
and all that. You should start planning where you are going.” Julian got
up to leave when Martin grabbed his arm.
“Wait, what if I just tell your sister what you just told me? She’ll hate
you and protect me. Or we could leave and start a family somewhere else.”
Julian looked down at the hand on his good suit. Oh, hell no. This conversation
was beginning to bore him.
“Look, you tell my sister or anyone about this encounter and your next
words will be your last. You are not taking my sister anywhere. You are
not taking my mother anywhere. You are leaving. I’ll even give you cash.
Now, get off my suit and out of my life. If you think I won’t kill you,
then you don’t know me very well. After all, I did try to kill my own sister.”
With that, Julian left.
Theresa played with the vial between her fingers. It had worked the last
night. She had no idea what it was and did not want to know. Ignorance could
be bliss and tonight was no different. She quickly dumped the contents of
vial into his drink, stirred it with her finger and jumped when he came
into the room. She knew he was coming but she had to seem surprised.
“Hello, wife. You know what I want.” Just as she pretended to be ready
to drink it, he took the glass from her and downed it quick. He loved the
taste of fine brandy.
“Alistair, you said you would help me get Ethan away from Gwen.”
“What I don’t understand is why you care. You have been carrying on with
my real grandson for months. I saw you together. I should be upset that
you are cheating on me with my own family.”
“I have a son by your son. Maybe I just really love the Cranes.” She looked
away and tried not to be surprised about him knowing. If Julian found out
then surely Alistair would find out. It gave her doubts about how this plan
would go. She had to think fast.
“You don’t love me.”
“I love you if you can help me. You said you would. I want Ethan away from
Gwen because I hate her. She tried to steal my boy from me. My son. She
took my daughter. Mine. Not hers. Jane is my kid and she just took her.
And Ethan would have married me if she hadn’t gotten knocked up. She’s turned
him into a something I don’t even recognize. I want both of them to suffer.
Fox understands that.” She decided to level with him. After all, they were
married. There had to be some honesty between them.
“I like you. You have fire, more than I can say for Katherine.”
He grabbed her nightgown then and threw her on the bed. He knew that she
would yell for him and try to fight. He knew that sex with him repulsed
her and that night after night she closed her eyes and imagined he was Fox.
He knew and he didn’t care because he was Alistair Crane.
Pilar moaned as Noah’s hands rushed her back. He moved them fast then slow
and then deep taking great care not to hurt her. Everything seemed to finally
be falling into place for Pilar. Her stress level was down, her daughter
hated her less with each passing day and even the drama with Luis, Antonio
and Theresa had been taken down a notch. Well, if you did not include the
fact that the woman her sons were in love with was doing their father. None
of this stopped Pilar from enjoying her new man’s company.
“I’m so glad we got this time away. Those years without you drove me crazy.
I don’t ever want to leave you again.” Noah closed his eyes as he said the
words. He was slowly working up to admitting to Pilar just how serious he
was about them.
“I’m glad we are together as well.” She hoped that he would not go on.
“Marry me.” He decided that direct was the best way to go about this. He
knew that things would be rough at first but he had a good job and could
provide for her. Now that his sister was off the streets, family life had
calmed down.
“Oh. I can’t do that. I love you but no.” Pilar sat up and pulled the towel
to cover her.
“What?!” Noah stood and looked at her for what seemed like forever. He
could not believe the woman he loved would not marry him. She had been talking
about telling people about them, he thought it was leading somewhere.
“I can’t. I love you but who knows how long this is going to last? You
are too young to be thinking about such serious commitments.”
“I can’t look at you right now, Pilar. You are sounding stupid and so I’m
leaving. The hotel room is paid for through the night. I know you are surprised
I was able to accomplish such a feat at my age.”
He gathered his clothes in a rage and left Pilar naked with an awful expression
on her face.
