Chapter VII

She couldn’t believe it. After living on the run for more than a hundred years because of what she was, Eve finally knew the name of the person who did this to her. So coming to Harmony wasn’t such a bad idea after all. Sure she had to face many of her past demons, but now she was finally able to make peace with some of the things she did.

{Flashback}

“You bare his mark, so that makes you his mate.” This time as she drew back to punch Eve, Eve countered stepped the attack and grabbed her from behind by both arms.

“Tell me his name!” Eve commanded.

“Let go of me!” Arianna struggled.

“You tell me his name now!” Eve said again as tears began flowing down her face.

Suddenly, Arianna stopped struggling. After realizing she wasn’t struggling anymore Eve turned Arianna around and watched as she looked into her eyes, searching for the truth.

“You really don’t know his name…” she whispered, “but they said, you bare his mark willingly.”

“They lie. That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you hunters for years. I don’t know who he is.” Eve said then released her. “I never wanted to be like this.”

“They said that you and your mate viciously slaughter my great-great-grandfather in cold blood. It was written in the Book of Legends.”

“Book of Legends?” Eve replied in a confused tone.

“Every vampire attack known dating back to the eighteenth century. It says that you are the Queen of the Underworld. That the two of you set out to conquer the rest of the demon world and that in the year two thousand and six, you would unite again.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m no Queen of anything. And how can I conquer something I know very little of? I was made this way against my will. I never even saw his face. I don’t know what they’ve been telling you throughout the years, but now you know it’s a lie.” she stated. “About Sylvester…how did they say I killed him?” Eve suddenly asked.

“They say, you and your mate, tortured him viciously for a week before finally killing in cold blood. That’s what they told me, and my family too.” Arianna said.

“You want the real truth?” Eve asked, as she waited for Arianna to look her in the eyes once more.

Arianna nodded.

“The truth is, Sylvester was my mentor. He took me in, even though he was a hunter and I was one of the creatures that he hunted. He taught me many things to help me survive, things I still use ‘til this very day. The night it happened, he went out to hunt early and when he returned, he was delusional and covered in blood. He attacked me for no reason, and nearly killed me…so I defended myself.” Eve whispered painfully. “I never meant to hurt him, I loved him like a brother. After he was down, more blood was everywhere and it looked like he wasn’t breathing, so I ran. I thought he was dead. It took me nearly ten years to move on…”

“Do you remember the date?” Arianna suddenly asked.

“I’ll never forget it…the fifteenth of September, nineteen hundred and sixteen.”

{Flashback ends}

Once Eve told her the date, Arianna told her that her great-great-grandfather died on the twenty-sixth and that she couldn’t have possibly killed him like they said. Arianna then proceeded to tell Eve everything she knew about the man who sired her. Once that was said, she told Eve that she would be in touch because she wanted to hear more about Sylvester. Now that Eve knew who he was, nothing and no one was going to stop her from finding him…and then killing him.

Eve left Julian hours ago with no explanation whatsoever. As she reached the front door of their motel room, she suddenly stopped when she picked up the scent of another person…someone she didn’t know. Bearing her fangs and narrowing her eyes as they flashed light blue, without warning Eve abruptly stormed through the door causing Julian to jump back in shock.

Julian’s patience was running thin as he waited for Eve to return. Max kept on giving him this ‘Are-you-sure-you’re-not-on-drugs-look’ as he continued to stare at him funny. Just as Julian was about to snap at Max for staring at him like that, the room door was roughly slammed opened as Eve appeared in the doorway. Boy did she look pissed…

“Eve…” Julian started to say but was cut off, as she appeared right before his eyes. ‘How the hell did she do that?!’

“Who is this man?” Eve sneered.

Julian simply rolled his eyes.

“This threatening me is really getting old.” He scoffed.

“I asked you a question, who is he?”

“Eve, this is Max Whitfield, a friend of mine.” Julian said calmly then turned to look at a shocked Max. “Max, this is Eve…the one I told you about.” He then narrowed his eyes. “I told you I wasn’t on drugs.”

Eve gave Julian a confused look. Taking him by the arm, she walked him into the bathroom and shut the door behind them.

“You told him everything?” She asked.

“Yes…and no” Julian replied slowly. “I told him about you being a vampire and about the hunters, but I didn’t tell him about us.” He whispered as he closed the distance between them.

“What do you mean ‘us’? There is…” Eve tried to say but was cut off by Julian’s mouth capturing hers. She placed her hands on his chest as she opened her mouth more and allowed him to deepen the kiss.

Julian for his part; held his hands on her waist then slowly trailed around to her lower back before cupping her derriere. Eve gripped the front of his shirt when he gripped her rear and moaned softly in his mouth. Slowly Julian pulled away from her lips, much to Eve’s dismay, and began nibbling on her neck before resting his forehead on hers.

“You were saying something about us…” He said in a husky voice then grinned seductively.

“Julian this can’t happen.” Eve mumbled breathlessly, even though she hated to admit she wish it could.

“I’m never giving you up Eve. We’ll make this thing work somehow.” Julian whispered. Taking her by the hand, they exited the bathroom and went to talk to Max.

A couple of feet away from Eve and Julian’s motel room stood Garth. He had followed an unsuspecting Max all the way there. After Eve up and disappeared two weeks ago, he managed to track her down to Julian Crane’s home. So he monitored the two of them closely until the night they were attacked and afterwards he lost track of them. Everyone knew how close Julian Crane was to a Max Whitfield, so he decided to monitor him praying he would lead him to Julian and Eve…and he did.

“Hello master…it’s me Garth again sir. I heard earlier that you were in town. I have more information for you about the woman in black.”

“Speak mortal.”

“As we’re speaking, I’m standing outside in front of her room now.”

Silence-

Eve…

“Tell me where.”

Garth then proceeded to give him the directions to the motel.

“You’ve done well mortal in finding my mate. Now what is it you desire from me?” the man asked Garth, even though he could pretty much guess what it was.

Finally, he’s time had come…

“Immortality. I want to live forever.”

“So be it.” Click

The time was now…

“By the end of tonight, I will have you Eve.” The man grinned.

Now Max really couldn’t believe what he was hearing. So Julian wasn’t on drugs like he first thought. If he hadn’t seen Eve with his own eyes…

“I think I need a drink.” Max said as he reached into his coat pocket and pulled out liquor flask. “So missy…you’re old enough to be my great-great-grandmother.” Max chuckled as he sipped his drink.

Eve didn’t find that funny and was seconds away from attacking Max but Julian grabbed her before she had the chance.

"So Max, are you gonna help us or not?” Julian asked as he placed his hand on top Eve’s, to calm her down. She was still flashing her fangs at Max, but he didn’t seem to notice.

“You know I will Julian. I would never turn my back on you.” Max smiled.

“Thanks.”

“Ok, why don’t you two gather up your things and meet me outside next to my car.” Max said as he headed towards the door.

“Alright.” Julian turned towards the door just as Max closed it behind him.

“We’re not going to be able to stay with him too long. They know I haven’t left Harmony yet and they’re not going to rest until they find me.” Eve said as she started gathering up her things again.

“I know.” Julian sighed.

Silence-

“Eve…” Julian started, “I haven’t known you that long, but somehow this thing between us feels right.” Julian then watched as Eve turned to look at him before he continued. “You’re the first woman I’ve ever felt this way about before. I thought I felt this way about my last girlfriend, but it turned out that she only wanted me dead.”

Well this confession of Julian’s was unexpected, Eve thought quietly to herself. She knew a while ago that she had feeling for Julian, but just couldn’t tell him.

“The first time I ever laid eyes on you, you took my breath away.” Julian said as he walked up to her. “I won’t let them take you from me.”

“Julian…” Eve whispered then raised her right hand up to caress his face.

Once they gathered up their belongings, they exited the motel room and found Max waiting for them smoking a cigar.

“You both ready?” Max asked.

“Yeah.” Julian replied. Walking over to his car, he suddenly stopped when he noticed Eve not following him.

The moment she and Julian stepped outside, a chill ran down her spine. Something was wrong…very wrong. Eve then began looking around and when her eyes locked on the person standing a few feet away from them, she snarled.

“Eve…what is it?” Julian asked as he appeared next to her.

“That man over there, something isn’t right about him. He seems odd.” She pointed.

“Odd?”

“Something’s coming Julian.” Eve turned to look him in the face. “We have to leave now.”

Not being one to hesitate, Julian signaled to Max that it was time then ran over and hopped in his car. Once Eve was seated, he started the engine then followed Max out of the motel parking lot. When Julian drove close enough to the man, the man suddenly locked eyes with Eve then smirked sinisterly.

Silence reigned supreme as Eve stared out of her passenger side window. Even after a few hours passed, she still couldn’t shake the feeling the something bad was going to happen. Julian must have sensed something bothering her because he placed his right hand on top of her left hand and squeezed it lightly. Julian then turned to take a quick peek at Eve and met her eyes briefly before turning back to the road when out of nowhere; something came flying towards the windshield. It happened so fast…

He slammed down hard on the brakes then tried to swerve out of the way but it was useless as whatever it was that crashed through the window, caused glass to fly in all directions! The next chain of events caused the car to veer completely off the road into a large ditch causing both Eve and Julian to be flung through the window.

The sound of leafs crunching nearby alerted Eve that someone was coming. She didn’t even know how much time had passed by. She groaned painfully as she tried to open her eyes. Her body felt numb and by the smell of it, she knew she was bleeding everywhere. She tried to straighten out her legs but as soon as she moved, an agonizing cry erupted from within her throat. So maybe moving wasn’t such a good idea. She was tired and just as she was about to welcome the darkness, her eyes shot open!

“Ju…lian…” Eve grimaced then clinched her eyes shut, as a sudden wave of pain spread throughout her injury-ridden body.

“Eve…”

Something was wrong…that wasn’t Julian’s voice. When Eve opened her eyes this time, she came face to face with person responsible for her being this way…

“Dante…”
