Ch.13-Fears and New Beginnings
Chad stumbled down his stairs, "I’m coming." He muttered trying to wake
himself up as the doorbell rang again. He swung opened the door and blinked
as he saw the person in front of him.
"Julian?" He questioned. He was shocked, sure Julian Crane was his
father, but he’d never showed up at his house, and at 7’oclock in the morning?
"Hello son." Julian smiled.
"What are you doing here?" Chad questioned.
"I came to see you, I hope you don’t mind." Julian questioned stepping
into the house. He looked around, it was a nice house, his son had done
well.
Chad’s eyes suddenly went to Julian’s hands. In one was a small gift
box, wrapped neatly with a small bow. In the other, a ball glove and a
baseball. "What’s that in you hands?" He asked wondering if his dear father
was drunk as usual.
"This," Julian said holding up the gift." Is a present for Jada." He
smiled, "And the glove and ball, that’s another reason I’m here."
"Well have a seat then." Chad said falling down on his couch as Julian
sat down in the cream chair beside it.
"Ever play baseball Chad?" Julian asked.
"Yeah, most people have."
Julian frowned, "Not me. I was hoping, well it might see odd, but I
was hoping you could teach me."
"Teach you?" Chad choked.
He nodded. "I was thinking that if I ever have a grandson, I’d love
to play ball with him, and Matthew will be old enough soon also. "
"Why not hire some big rig to teach you? Someone who knows the game
well."
Julian shook his head, "I don’t need someone like that to show me how
to throw a ball Chad, besides son, I thought it would be a good way to
get to know you. That is if your interested." Julian questioned.
Chad looked at him, had Julian lost his mind? In the past they had
talked, had dinner together and he had spent some time with Jada, but never
anything so,’common’ as throwing a ball around.
"Sure, I’ll teach you the game. Not hard to learn anyway." Chad shrugged.
"Great." Julian almost yelled, gaining his composeur he smiled, "Does
Jada like Jewerly? I made the Jewerly store owner open this morning early
and I picked her something out. Nothing large, just a small gift." Julian
said feeling like a true grandfather.
"She loves just about anything." Chad laughed. "I just don’t want my
little girl raised to think she can have anything she wants." He explained.
"Yes, I figured that much, so I didn’t go all out. I wanted respect
from you, Son. "
Chad couldn’t believe it, his father repected him, what had happened
to this man? Was it Sheridan’s death? Had it woke him up. "Thanks for respecting
my wishing. That means a lot." Chad nodded.
"So when will the little angel be up? Or is she a late sleeper?"
"Oh, she’ll be up soon. She’s a early bird."
Julian smiled, "I really want to get to know both of you Chad. You
must understand I’ve made many mistakes in my life, but I do love you."
Julian almost whispered.
Chad felt his hard drop, his whole life he had wanted to hear his father
say those words and it had happened. "I’d like to get to know you better.
But it’s gonna take time ya know?" Chad told him.
Julian smiled, Just as Sheridan had told him in his dream, Chad was
a strong man and this would take time.
"I completly understand." Julian smiled. "That’s quite all right with
me, we’ll take all the time you need Chad."

Theresa applied a small amount of lipstick to her lips and frowned.
She still had circles under her eyes from the night before. Kendra had
nightmares all night and Theresa let her sleep with her, Not that either
one of them slept. Then Matthew awoke at 2oclock, teething really seemed
to be bothering him. Theresa had bought a baby book about the first year
but hadn’t read a single chapter. First chapter to read would have to be
teething she sighed. She looked over at her bed. Kendra was sleeping peacefully
now, holding a picture of Sheridan and Luis. And now Theresa had to run
into work, take care of some designs some new girl had lost.
"Theresa." A female voice rang out.
Theresa ran out of her room and down the stairs. "Ivy thank you so
much." She sighed.
"No need for that Theresa." Ivy smiled.
"But its so early, Miguel would have come but he had been up with mama
all night, and Grace was busy, Kay was still asleep, Eve was at work, really
I’m sorry." Theresa rattled.
Ivy laughed. "Theresa its fine. You go on in to work dear. I’ll be
fine with the kids."
Theresa smiled. "Well they’re both asleep, neither one of them slept
last night. Matt’s teething so if he doesn’t eat much that’s why. Well
at least that’s what Chad said. I know nothing about Teething." Theresa
sighed.
"I’ll be fine. Just tell me, does Kendra eat hot meals, Because I’m
afraid I can’t cook that well." She smiled.
"Her cereal is in the cabinet, she seldom wants anything else." Theresa
laughed. "I shouldn’t be long, but if she wakes up scared, just tell her
stories of Luis and Sheridan, it seemed to help her last night."
Ivy frowned, "She’s too young to go through this."
Theresa nodded. "I feel so bad for her. Last night she was having these
horrible nightmares, and she kept crying out for Luis. She said her daddy
used to sing to her when she was scared. Then her mommy would rock her
to sleep."
Ivy shook her head. "Well you just go on to work dear. I have it covered."
Theresa headed toward the door. "You have my number call me if you
need me." She said walking out.
Kendra tossed in the bed her mind full of dreams she couldn’t get rid
of. Fears she couldn’t let go of.
"Mommy, Mommy!." Kendra yelled looking up at Sheridan.
"I’m here baby, come to mommy." Sheridan smiled.
Kendra giggled and ran toward her mommy, her arms open wide for her.
But just as she got to her she disappeared as Theresa appeared instead.
"Aunt Resa, you won’t leave me?" The little girl questioned.
"No baby. Come on its ok." Theresa smiled.
"I love you Resa." Kendra giggled going to give Theresa a big hug.
But as she put her little arms around Theresa, Theresa disappeared and
Kendra fell to the ground. Standing up with huge tears in her eyes she
looked around as she stood in a circle of people. Uncle Miguel was there,
and Grandma Pilar, but the just disappeared to. Aunt Ivy smiled as she
disappeared and Uncle Jule waved goodbye. Suddenly Kendra was all along
with Matthew.
"Matthew, they all gone." She cried. "They all left us." Matthew cooed
at her. "But I’ll take care of you Matt cause you want leave me." She said
wiping a tear as she started to put her hand on his stroller. But she grabbed
thin air instead as her brother disappeared too.
"No! Matt! Mommy! Daddy, Resa come back." Kendra screamed out as she
woke up. "Don’t leave me please." She yelled again as the picture of Sheridan
and Luis fell from the bed hitting the floor, glass shattering

"Eve, what do I do?" Miguel asked into the phone.
"Tell me again, what is she doing?" Eve asked.
"She’s staring at the wall, holding a pillow and craddling it like
a child. Eve she’s been staring at that wall all night." Miguel whispered.
"Is she eating? Talking to you? Anything?" Eve asked worry filling
her voice.
"No, nothing like that, just staring and rocking. I’m scared Eve. "
Miguel said again.
He looked over at his mother, "Gone. All gone." She whispered.
"Eve, I think Luis’s death has put her over the edge, first Papa and
Antonio, now Luis, could it be too much for her?" He questioned.
"Miguel, she’ll be all right. She’s in shock, this is her way of grieving.
Don’t give up on your mother. You will all get through this." Eve told
him, a reassuring tone in her voice. It was the tone his mama used to have
during hard times, now other’s where having to reassure him.
"Can you come see her Eve? Please." Miguel begged.
"As soon as I leave the hospital I’ll be right over Miguel." Eve said
hanging up.
Miguel sat the phone down and looked at Pilar as she hugged the pillow.
"They’re all gone now." She whispered to the wall. "All gone."
