Stranger In My House -Chapter 7

Chapter seven

A few weeks passed after Eve told Julian everything about her past with Pierce. By telling Julian the truth, it felt like another weight had been lifted off her shoulders. For the first time in a long time, Eve felt rejuvenated. With Julian supporting her a hundred percent, she felt like no one could stop her from making amends for her past transgressions. First on her list, she decided that she was going to tell Sam truth about Ivy and if he hated her afterwards, so be it.

No one said that telling Sam the truth was going to be easy, but she knew she had to. Today was the day she had a doctor’s appointment for another check-up and to have her cast finally removed. Knowing that her cast would be coming off in a matter of minutes, Eve was ecstatic and nothing could ruin her moment of excitement… well that is until she bumped into Ivy, who was coming off the elevator and heading her way.

Walking up until she was right next to Eve, Ivy spoke. “Eve.”

“Ivy.”

“This is the first time that I’ve seen you since your accident. How are you?” she asked.

“I’m fine, how about you?” Eve said while keeping a close eye on her.

“I’m happy and with the man that I love, and we’re doing fine. I hear you’ve been staying with Julian at the mansion all this time. I know that T.C., your daughters and Rebecca can’t be too thrilled with that.” Ivy said with a smirk across her lips.

‘She just had to go and bring that up, didn’t she? I knew that it was impossible to have a regular conversation with someone like her.’ Eve thought with a frown etched on her face.

“My personal life is none of your business Ivy, so just back off.” Eve said in an angry voice.

“My, my Eve, did I hit a nerve?”

“You know with me being in a coma for so long, and since I’ve come back to the living, I’ve had time to reflect on the choices that I made in life. I’m going to right the wrong of all the terrible things that I did, and I’m going to tell Sam the truth.” Eve said looking Ivy dead in the eyes.

“You can’t! You wouldn’t dare tell Sam the truth. He would not only hate you, but he would hate me as well.”

“At one point, I would have let you get away with that, but now I really don’t give a damn what happens. If he hates then so be it. So when I find Sam, I will tell him the truth. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m late for my appointment.” Eve said to Ivy with a smirk on her face as she casually started walking pass her, but before she got any further, Ivy grabbed her by her right arm and spun her around.

The moment Ivy grabbed Eve by her arm, Eve saw red and was furious. ‘Oh no this b*tch didn’t just grab me!’ Eve thought with this outraged look upon her face. Eve had had it up to here with people grabbing and touching on her and getting away with it. Ivy would be the last person to ever grab her again, because the next time someone grabbed her, she was throwing punches.

“Take your damn hands off of me!” Eve shouted at Ivy as she snatched her arm out of her grip.

Many people who were in the vicinity of the two heated enemies, stopped to watch and see what was going to happen next.

“You listen to me you b*tch, you will not tell Sam the truth. If you try and cross me, I will make your life a living hell because if I can’t be happy then neither can you.” Ivy spat back.

“You don’t scare me anymore Ivy because I don’t have anymore secrets left. You’re going down, I guarantee it.” Eve said wickedly to Ivy as she walked pass her again, towards the elevator and headed to her appointment.

About a half hour later, Eve walked out of Harmony Memorial Hospital cast free and on a mission. Dr. Teague had given her a clean bill of health and had told her that she could start back to work when she was ready, all she had to do was call. The argument that she had with Ivy earlier was still fresh in her mind too. It was true, she really hadn’t seen or heard anything from her daughters since the time she woke up. It made her realize more than ever that she missed her girls dearly, so with her mind made up, she hopped in the car that Julian let her drive for her appointment and headed back to the scene of her downfall, to face her daughters and husband once again.

Whitney was in the living room looking out of the window…again. She had been doing this since after her mother’s accident. She would sit by the window and watch families play in their yards, doing things that a normal family should be doing. That use to be her family, having a good time and doing the normal things families should, but it wasn’t like that anymore. Simone hated her because she thought she stole Chad from her, her mother wasn’t who she thought she was and her family was in ruins.

She didn’t understand how someone could lie about their past to their entire family and friends. She didn’t understand how her mother could have a child by a man that she supposedly hated. Maybe she didn’t understand a lot of things, but unlike her sister and father, she wanted to hear her mother’s side of the story, she wanted to know the truth. Deciding that it was time for her to get away from the window, Whitney stood up, stretched and was about to head upstairs to her room when she spotted a midnight blue BMW pulling up in front of her house. Curious as a kitten, Whitney wanted to know who the owner of the car was and watched as they opened the car door, got out and turned towards her house. A look of shock presented itself on Whitney’s face because for the first time in a while, she was looking at her mother face.

Whitney hadn’t seen or heard anything from Eve in about a month. The last time Whitney saw her mother, she was just waking up from her coma and she looked kind of tired too. Looking at Eve now, with her hair parted in the middle and pushed behind her ears hanging down her back, wearing a white shirt with two buttons undone, blue jean pants, white tennis shoes and a black jacket, tears started falling from her eyes as she continued to stare. She was so mesmerized by her mother’s appearance, that she didn’t see or hear her father until it was too late.

“What the hell is she doing here?!” T.C. said as he watched Eve.

“Daddy please…”

“She has no right to be here anymore. She turned her back on us, and now she the audacity to show her face here again? No, I will not let her step one foot in my house ever again.” And with that, T.C. marched to the front door, opened it, and walked outside to confront Eve face to face.

Eve had been looking at the outside of her former house for what seemed like hours, but in reality a few minutes. The house looked a little different since the last time she was here. So caught up in her examination of the house, she didn’t realize T.C. was heading her way until it was too late and he looked pissed.

“You have no right to be here woman, so you can turn your lovers car around and get the hell from in front of my house.” T.C. said in an angry voice.

“Well it’s nice to see you to T.C…” Eve said sarcastically. “…but I’m not going anywhere until I have talked to my daughters.”

“Woman you must be crazy! There is no way in hell that I’m going to let you talk to my girls. You turned your back on them and this family when you left to go stay with that bastard Julian. You have no say in my girls lives anymore.”

“I never turned my back on my daughters and I’ll be damned if you think you can keep them from me. My past came out, yes, but I didn’t want to leave this marriage T.C. I wanted to work things out, and hopefully have you forgive me. You said that you didn’t want me anymore, remember?!”

“You lied to me Eve! If I had known that you were Julian Crane’s mistress, then I wouldn’t have talked to you or married you at all. You even gave that racist bastard a son. I bet you didn’t even love him enough, so you probably sold him for drugs to get rid of him because he was burden to you. Do you even know who you sold him to Eve huh?” T.C. viciously said to Eve.

Now it was one thing to bring up Eve’s past and rub it in her face, but it was another thing to say that she didn’t love or want her son. THAT was the last straw.

“Don’t you ever tell me that I didn’t love or want my son you sonofab*tch because you don’t have the right to judge me! I would give anything to have my son here with me today, but I can’t because Alistair kidnapped him from the hospital the day he was born and hid so Julian and I wouldn’t find him. My hurtful past is in the past, and I survived it and moved on to better myself. I don’t give a rat’s a** about this marriage anymore just like you don’t, and I’ll be more than happy to give you a divorce, but you will not keep me from my daughters. I won’t let that happen!” Eve shouted back at T.C. as a few stray tears fell from her eyes. Eve didn’t want to give T.C. the satisfaction of seeing her cry in front of him again, so she swiped those tears from her face before any more fell.

Whitney, who had followed her dad outside after he saw Eve in front of the house, heard them arguing and it hurt to see them like this when they used to be so happy. She had never seen her mother this angry before and it only got worse when her dad said something awful about her and Julian’s son. She didn’t ever remember her father talking about someone like this before, and for it to be her mother, well there was only some much a person could take and Whitney had enough of it! Now they were going to listen to her.

“Both of you that’s enough!” Whitney yelled as both T.C. and Eve stopped their shouting and turned towards their oldest daughter. “Just looking at the two of you arguing like this hurts me deeply. I don’t understand how a strong and solid marriage, could go so wrong.”

“This is all of your mother’s fault! She’s the reason that this family is in shambles!” T.C. said in a loud voice.

“Whitney, I know that you are upset with me and for that I am sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you or Simone. I just… didn’t know how to tell you girls. I didn’t want my past to come out the way it did. And you have every right to be disappointed in me for keeping this from you girls, but I thought that I was doing the right thing.” Eve said as more tears started falling from her eyes, so she swiped them up too.

“Mom, how come you didn’t tell us that you had a sister and a brother, and that you had a son by Julian Crane? How?”

“I don’t know.” Eve simply said as she dropped her head to stop more tears from falling down her face, before looking Whitney straight in the eyes, and continuing. “Honey, I’ll tell you any and everything you want to know just...come with me, please?”

“She’s not going anywhere with Eve, I forbid it!” T.C. shouted.

“Daddy, I know that you are hurting but you cannot keep me from my mother and I won’t let you. I want some answers, I have a right to know them and I want them now. Let me go get my shoes, and I’ll be back.” Whitney said as she looked at Eve one more time before she ran back into the house and got her shoes.

Once Whitney returned back outside, she hugged her daddy and told him that everything would be okay, but that she needed to do this. T.C. didn’t want to let her go, but she was an adult and she made her choice. After releasing her from his arms, T.C. watched as Eve and Whitney hopped in the car that Eve was driving and drove off. Once he couldn’t see the car anymore, he stormed back into the house, slammed the door shut and went into the kitchen to grab a beer out of the refrigerator. Taking a long sip of his beer, T.C. walked over the telephone on the wall, dialed some numbers and waited for the person on the other end to pick up.

“Hello.” the person on the other end said.

“It’s me…I need to see you.”

“Something wrong?”

“I just need some company.” T.C. said as he swallowed some more of his beer.

“I’m on my way.” the person said before hanging up the phone.

After driving around for a while trying to find a place to talk, Eve decided that the wharf would be a good place for her and Whitney to discuss things. Slowly the two of them got out of the car and started walking along side the pier. As the two of them continued walking, neither said a thing. That is until Whitney realized that the silence between them was driving her crazy, stopped and decided to speak first.

“You look well mom.” Whitney said since those were the only words she could think of at the time.

“Thank you.” Eve said with a small smile on her lips.

Turning towards Eve and looking her straight in the eyes, Whitney spoke. “Mom, I…I want the truth, all of it. Childhood, everything, you own me that much.”

“I know.” Eve said looking at her right back.

For the next hour or so, Eve told Whitney everything about her past, from her childhood with her siblings to her relationship Julian and their son, everything. Eve realized it was now getting to a point where telling people about her past was kind of easy. She wasn’t so scared or ashamed of it anymore. She didn’t care what other people thought about her anymore either, she was going to live her life the way she wanted to from now on and there wasn’t a damn thing anyone could do about it.

“Oh my god... I had no idea that you suffered so much mom. No one should have to live through the things that you did, no one.” Whitney said while tears fell from her eyes.

“That’s why I wanted a better life for you and Simone. I worked so hard at getting my life back on track and I didn’t want you both following in my footsteps. I would’ve given my life, if it meant keeping you girls from living the life that I did.” Eve said as she placed her hands on Whitney’s face to wipe her tears away.

“That man, that came to the house the day of your accident, he really is your brother?”

“Yes. Pierce is my stepbrother, but I considered him to be my real brother once upon a time. I want you to stay away him and Liz okay? Promise me Whitney?” Eve said in a pleading voice to Whitney while looking her right in the eyes before she turned to the side to look out at the water.

“I promise mom.” Whitney said then turned towards the water like her mother did. “When I heard about some of the things that people were saying about you, I was hurt and embarrassed. You hurt us so much. And now, I kind of understand why you did what you did, so it doesn’t hurt as bad as it did anymore, but that still doesn’t mean that I forgive just yet. It’s going to take me some time to let this all sink in, I hope you understand.”

“I do.”

“I think I’m going to go and walk around of a little while, if you don’t mind?” Whitney said.

“No I don’t mind. Do you want me to take you home when you get back?”

“Yeah, I won’t be long.” And with that, Whitney glanced at her mom one more time with a small smile on her lips, before walking off.

Eve watched as Whitney walked off alone, disappearing from her site as she turned the corner. Eve turned back towards the water and continued to stare off as the sun was now beginning to set. Now that Whitney knew about her side of the story, Eve felt somewhat relieved. She knew that Whitney was going to need some time to figure things out and she was willing to wait as long as Whitney needed her to wait because she wasn’t going to pressure her into making a decision so soon after their talk.

Aimlessly walking along the pier with his hands in his jacket pockets and his head slightly down, the young man needed to come up with a way to hurt his mother for hurting him when he was younger. He always wondered would she recognize him after all these years and what her reaction would be? If she didn’t recognize him, he could use it to his advantage and get to know her before he got his revenge on her. So into his own thoughts, he never saw the woman leaning on the rail looking out at the water until it was too late, as he bumped into her and she went screaming down into the water below.
