Chapter 26

Ethan decided to stop by the Bed and Breakfast to get the anulment papers from Theresa. He wanted to make sure the had the signed documents in his hands before the end of the day.

He was confronted by Grace the minuet he stepped through the door.

"Ethan ,that crazy bitch of yours is no longer welcome here." She fumed. "She deliberately set fire to the trash can in her room yesterday. If it hadn't been for the qick thinking of David and your sisters, I would be the lead story on the news this morning-for murder."

Ethan sighed and rolled his eyes towards the ceiling. "I am sorry to hear that Grace." He said. "I am on my way up to see her now, please have her bill ready for me to take care of when I come back down."

"Gladly." She muttered.

Halfway up the stairs Ethan ran into Pilar, she was wringing her hands as usual...

"Ethan, oh thank God..." Ethan put up his hand and chuckled softly to himself.

"Let me guess...Theresa is missing blah, blan blah and you're worried that she might do something foolish...yada, yada, yada..." He looked at Pilar in pity. "Pilar when are you going to live your own life?"

Pilar gaped at him. She didn't know how to answer him.

"Excuse me?" She replied.

Ethan placed a comforting arm around her shoulders. "Poor Pilar, when was the last time you did something nice for yourself? Theresa is a big girl now she doesn't need you to wipe the snot from her nose any more."

"But she is my child..."

"When was the last time Theresa came to you for advice? Theresa is going to do what Theresa wants to do...everyone else be damned."

"You might have given up on Theresa but I haven't."

"And my mother hasn't given up on me." Ethan replied. "But she haven't stopped living either." He pulled out his checkbook from his suit breast pocket. "I'll tell you what I'm going to do." He said. "I'm going to write you a generous check. I want you to use the money to go visit Paloma."

"Paloma?" She gasped. "Oh Ethan I..."

"I'll make sure that she gets on the plane." Miguel cut in as he ran up the stairs. "Tonight." He took the check from Ethan and let out a low whistle. "Hey man are you sure you can afford to give away money like this?"

Ethan smiled. "Don't worry about it, business is good."

"But what about Theresa?" Pilar asked she was torn between staying in Harmony for Theresa's sake and going to visit Paloma and her sister.

"Mama stop worrying about Theresa, she can take herself." Miguel spat. He took his mother gently by the hand. "Come on mama, Charity and I are going to take you shopping for your long visit with Paloma and Aunt Marie."

"Okay." Pilar smiled. "I can't wait to see everyone it's been so long..." She kissed Ethan on the cheeks.

"Thank you, thank you." She cried. "Thank you."

"My pleasure." Ethan grinned.

After Pilar and Miguel left Ethan went back downstairs to the front desk.

"You made Pilar a very happy lady." Grace said. "That was a sweet thing to do. She deserves to think about herself for a change instead of that skank daughter of her's."

"Does this mean that you and Pilar made up?"

"Yes, despite what had happened between us, we are still friends."

"Can I have Theresa's bill?"

"Sure."

"Theresa isn't in her room but can you give me a call when she does show up? I'm sure you're going to get an earful when she discovers she no longer have a place to stay."
