Chapter 29

Beth arrived with Luis on her arm. She had been comforting him ever since Sheridan’s crazy half sister had been put in jail for kidnapping her and Marty. Charlie had blown into town and provided Beth with the perfect opportunity to get close to Luis and now that Sheridan was being openly distant, Beth had hopes again that she would be with Luis. Luis would love her.

“I’m still surprised you wanted to come to the ceremony, Luis, but thanks for inviting me. I love Crane parties.” She tried not to sound too impressed, knowing that Luis hated Cranes.

“I know but Sheridan insisted I come. She said something about a surprise and the babysitter said that she could sit all evening.” Luis squeezed Beth’s hand and could not help but feel a little sorry for her. No matter how much she tried, he would always love Sheridan.

“Is your brother coming?” Beth asked, she was hoping he would show up on that blonde’s arm and leave Luis for her.

“No. He’s out of town. He actually hasn’t been here for months. He got tired of waiting on Sheridan.”

Beth was about to reply when Julian and Rebecca came down the stairs. The whole room stood still for a minute, in awe of Rebecca’s dress. It was the first tasteful she had ever worn—elegant, sleek and long. Julian looked extremely handsome and for once, completely happy. There was a sparkle in his eyes

“Ladies and Gentlemen, if you would please follow us into the living room where the ceremony will take place, shortly.” Julian announced in a booming voice with a winning smile. The crowd, over half who had been blackmailed into attending, felt a strange warning come over them.

“But first brother, I have news.” Sheridan came down the stairs behind him and his ‘bride’. She was glowing and clearly at least six months pregnant. She placed her hands on her belly and smiled at the people below her. She only wished Martin was here to witness this.

Five seconds after the wish, Martin showed up. He looked as though he had been beaten everyday and his clothes were dirty. His breath was heavy and he felt as though he could not see straight. One face in particular though, jumped out at him.

“JULIAN! You had me kidnapped! I will kill you!” Before he had the chance though, several men were on him, holding him back.

“I am sure I have no idea what you are talking about Martin. Sheridan had something she wanted to tell us before you so rudely interrupted…sis?” Julian decided he could forgive his younger sister upstaging him for a moment. But only for a moment.

“Well, brother, I’m pregnant. I just wanted everyone to share our happiness.” She glowed and smiled icily as Martin looked at her in shock.

“HOW?” He screamed, pushing the men off of him.

Everyone was quiet from confusion. Why on earth would Martin care about Sheridan’s pregnancy?

“Okay. Well, before I explain things…honey? Could you please come over here for a minute?”

Luis dropped Beth’s arm and seemed to almost run up the stairs to Sheridan. He pulled her in for a great long kiss. He had been dying to kiss her in public for months but had to hold his tongue. He held her as tight as safely possible before ending the kiss but did not take his arms from around her.

“You see, everyone. Martin and I were supposedly ‘together.’ But not really. I know mother, such a shock right? You feel that knife in your back? Good. I know it looked like we were sleeping together Julian but we weren’t. Were we Martin? We just ‘cuddled.’ It has been killing me to pretend to be in love with that man. I had to try to convince myself that I was a little so that it would seem real. I told Martin our love was too strong for sex before marriage. Before we straightened everything out. Isn’t that right?”

“Martin? Tell me she’s lying.” Katherine spoke up for the first time. She felt herself go cold inside and realized that she would never have a relationship with her daughter.

“She’s not lying, Katherine. We are sorry for anyone, besides you two, that got hurt in the process but we needed to do this. You two left us and your families, for what? Because Alistair was a threat? Instead of fighting for your lives, you ran. We thought the worse had happened to you two. We thought you were dead. My mother lit candles for you. Bastard!” Luis tried to make sure that he didn’t get too emotional during his speech but he could not really help himself. He hated his father and Katherine for what they had done.

“He was going to kill me!” Katherine yelled.

“YOU HAD MONEY, MOTHER! You could have taken us with you! You could have tried to divorce him and hired goons of your own to keep him at bay! Something?! Do you know what hell me and Julian grew up in because you were too scared? Because you didn’t care enough to take us with you! And you Martin, how could you think I could love a man who leaves FIVE children behind with their mother who barely made enough to support two! All of this time Paloma was mad at Pilar, it should have been you!”

“We aren’t even mad anymore. This was petty but necessary. You broke my mother’s heart, for what? Just so you could jump at the chance to be with her daughter? I am sorry, Mama, but I wanted you to see Martin for the cad he really is. We are changing our son’s name to Luis Jr.” Luis turned to kiss Sheridan on the cheek. She smiled at him.

Martin and Katherine were shocked and embarrassed. Alistair was proud, he smoked and took a drink with a grin on his face.

“Luis, Sheridan…. I don’t know what to say. I am glad that you aren’t sleeping with my ex husband, Sheridan but this was a bit much.” Pilar tried to keep her smile down. She knew that they were wrong for this, secrets were dangerous.

“I know, Mama, I’m sorry you got caught in the crossfire. I don’t regret what we did though.” Luis took a moment from his love to look at his mother.

“I know, but secrets are never a good thing to keep.”

“You would know.” Noah said loud enough for everyone to hear him. Suddenly the room turned to him as if waiting of the next juicy bubble to pop. Even Alistair took interest again, for he was starting to get bored.

“What are you talking about?” A voice asked.

“Not now.” Pilar told him, she was praying inside that he would just shut up but part of her, a little part that grew bigger each day, wanted him to shout it from the rooftops.

“Yes, now.” He went up the stairs to where Pilar stood with her son and his love. He had been staring at her since the moment she walked in. She was wearing a fitting white dress with her hair down on her shoulders. The dress the understatement sort of beauty that was Pilar: elegant yet approachable. Ever since he left her in that hotel room, she had haunted him. He felt the need to be with her more and more.

“What is he talking about, Mama?” Luis asked as he watched Noah take Pilar’s hand.

“I’m going to ask you again. In front of this people. I’m not ashamed about how I feel.” He whispered in her ear and then kissed her bare shoulder.

Pilar felt her body hum. She had been wanting him more than she could ever remember wanting Martin and that made her feel strange. This young man had taken her heart and her body by complete surprise. She saw the vulnerable look in his eyes and knew that he was baring his soul. She knew that she had a tough decision to make and that she might bring scandal to her family’s name but what the hell? Her family had definitely raised more sand that this in the past. Plus, she loved him dearly.

Pilar took his face her hands and brought his lips to her hers. He felt so relieved that he picked her up and deepened the kiss. It had been so long since they had been that close, that they both lost control. The kiss grew more passionate as if no one else in the room existed. She ran her fingers through his hair as his hands went lower and lower. He kissed her neck and was on his way to her cleavage when someone in the foyer coughed loudly.

“Oh my. We had better stop hon. Ask me again.” Pilar told him.

“What?”

“I said to ask me again, in front of all these God forsaken people. Ask me.” She smiled up at him.

“Okay. Pilar Lopez-Fitzgerald…will you marry me?”

“YES!” She yelled and kissed him again. The kissing went on for a while again before someone else coughed. They broke apart but were not embarrassed. Pilar decided her news could wait for a more private time.

“Mama….what are you doing all over Noah?” Theresa had just stepped into the mansion and everyone turned to her. They were almost expecting a surprise. A few of the guests were texting their friends to come over to ceremony. All of a sudden this was not such a waste of an afternoon.

“Oh, honey, they are getting married. Yea, apparently they have been pretty hot for sometime. I don’t blame her, Noah is a hot piece of-”

“THANK YOU, Mrs. Wallace. Wow. Well… I’m sorry I’m late. I have a surprise of my own though. Ethan? Are you here?”

Ethan had been watching the door for Theresa to arrive. He did not want Gwen to know though. He loved Gwen very much but he knew that his heart was with the housekeeper’s daughter. Gwen knew it too and the sight of Theresa with her daughter was almost too much to bear. She knew this would be her last night in Harmony.

“Yes, I’m here.”

“Are you watching?”

“Yes.”

“Good.” She then motioned for Fox to come forth. He quickly came to her side. He gave her a quick peck on the lips. They looked like a complete family and all four of them glowed. Little Ethan was at Theresa’s side and Jane was on her hip.

“Oh, mature, Theresa. You are just trying to make Ethan jealous. How did she rope you into Fox?” Gwen asked from Ethan’s side.

“Actually, b#tch, I could care less about making your husband jealous. He clearly is though. No, I wanted to share with him and all of you that Jane is not his. She is Fox’s daughter. I had the papers faxed to you, the DNA results. Around the time I was supposed to be carrying your child, I had sex with Fox. One time was all we needed apparently.”

Fox stood shocked. He had no idea that this was going to happen. He thought he would be mad that Theresa didn’t tell him in private before everyone else but he knew she had wanted to be sure. He looked her in the eye to see if she was on the level and she was. She shifted Jane around motioned to her purse.

“I know trusting me isn’t the easiest thing for you to do so you can look at the papers in my purse.” Theresa was hoping he would trust her word but knew that there was slim chance of that.

“I know you are being honest. I love you and our family.” Fox kissed her deeply and the room slowly started to clap. Pilar felt immensely happy for her daughter.
