    Chapter 7

Julian snuck into his sister’s place almost effortlessly. She should
really have more protection seeing as how her powerful father wanted her
dead. He couldn’t believe her taste in décor—awful. He held his breath
as he walked into her bedroom. He almost gagged at what he found.

“JULIAN!” Sheridan stage whispered loudly. She could not believe her
brother, who had only recently gotten back on her good side, would be in
her house this late at night. He could call first.

“Get out of bed, sister. We need to talk.” Julian averted his eyes from
her partner and made a great effort of keeping his dinner down. He was glad
 he had a drink.

“Fine. No lecturing.” Sheridan pulled on her robe and left Martin Lopez-Fitzgerald
  sleeping soundly.

“How did this happen?” Julian sat down and prepared another drink. He
made his sister’s favorite pink drink and sat on the couch next to her.

“Don’t tell anyone, Julian.” Sheridan pleaded with him but still kept
the demand in her voice. He loved this new non whiny Sheridan.

“I won’t. You keep my secrets, I keep yours. That is how this sibling
thing works, I hear. I haven’t been much of a brother.”

“Oh, I would say teaming up with my father to try and kill me did disqualify
you for the Best Brother of the Year award.”

“It did put me in the running for the Best $*#^ of the year though. We
are getting off track dear. You and ‘step-father’? Mother would be furious.”

“I don’t care. She left us, Julian. I understand father would have killed
her but she just left. She had money before father. She could have shipped
us off somewhere. She could have tried to run away with us. She could have
done something other than run and leave her two children to mourn her for
years. She’s a hateful b*tch. Plus, and I know I sound quite the hypocrite,
she stole Pilar’s husband. There was no good reason to drag him in on her
  escape. None.”

“You might not want to argue that last point too hard, sister. You still
have his hickey on your neck.”

“Well, I loved him the moment I saw him on mother’s arm. I saw him what
I saw in Luis and Antonio except more. He’s so honest and good and hairy.
I like hairy. I knew he loved me too. Even though I was chained to his sons.
I haven’t figured out how to tell Luis. I’m hoping that hussy Beth does
it for me. She could come on to him and ‘ta da!’ She’s been after my man
for quite some time anyway.”

“This is just too much to take in one night, dear. I understand your
point about mother but she didn’t feel she had any other options.” He didn’t
want to hear about how hairy Martin Lopez-Fitzgerald was, if it were up
to him, he would burn the man alive for this. He would have to find a way
to get him.

“Don’t even think about killing him or having him killed, Julian. I won’t
forgive you.” Odd how well she could read him now. A couple of years ago,
he was a brick wall that she had no interest in seeing.

“Okay, I can’t stomach talking about this anymore. I had a reason for
being here anyway. Lean in close to me.” He waited for her face to be near
his.

“Why?” She looked around. She couldn’t see anyone watching them. Julian
 was so paranoid.

“You know why, sister. Father has camera’s everywhere. You would wave
if you want.” He lowered his voice and refused to look at anything but her
 face.

“Fine.” She leaned her ear to her brother’s mouth and waited for him
to say something. She wanted to back into her lover’s arms.

“Meet me at the Tom Hilton’s at five o’clock tomorrow.” He made sure
that he said it low enough so that his voice would not be picked up. It
felt odd being this close to his sister. He could still smell Martin on
her. Again, the effort to hold down his food was immense.

“Which one? There are like twenty.” She whispered back harshly.

“Not so loud, sister. The one outside of town. Near the Boone’s and Nimble.”
He suddenly rose up and took her hand.

    “Okay?”

Sheridan looked around the living room and towards the door where her
lover slept. She didn’t know what Julian had in mind but she figured it would
be dangerous. She hadn’t been involved in any danger since her pregnancy
and she liked it that way. She finally had Marty back in her arms and her
crazed half sister in jail. She was already involved in something that
could possibly tear her family apart. She did not need this. But she saw
the look in Julian’s eyes and it was delicious; something in her responded.

“Okay. Tell Father I say ‘hello.’”
