Chapter 2

Chad stood underneath Whitney's window. He had yelled so much his voice was hoarse. "Comon, Whitney," he croaked. "I know you're up there!"
Whitney turned the volume on her headphones up higher. Stupid Chad. Wouldn't he take the hint?
"Whitney, just talk to me already!" Chad yelled. "I'm sorry, okay?"
Whitney continued to ignore him. She had already tried to break up with him months ago. The guy just wouldn't take a hint.
Whitney and her mother had lived by themselves ever since TC had found out about Eve's past relationship with Julian and moved to Bermuda with Liz. Simone had decided to go out of state for school and was doing very well, studying to be a doctor like her mother. Whitney and Chad were thrilled that they were able to finally be together without her father's disaproval...at first.

Whitney quickly discovered that the relationship without the sneaking around was not nearly as exciting as she thought it would be. She quickly grew bored of Chad and began focusing her attention back on tennis in order to get away from him. Chad turned out to be a little puppy, following her around, showing up at her house at all hours of the night, even taking tennis lesson to attmpt to be closer to her. She quickly ran out of patience with him.

To top it off, Whitney and Theresa's friendship ended very badly. Theresa completely ignored Whitney while she was trying to win Ethan back, and when Ethan stopped paying attention, Theresa ran back to Whitney, calling all hours of the night...always in tears. Whitney was tired of being used. The last straw finally came when Whitney and Chad went to the Crane mansion for dinner with Theresa. Theresa did nothing but bemoan her fate and Whitney finally snapped. She told Theresa that she was tired of being a back burner friend and that Ethan would never love her again, especailly if he ever saw her for her real self. She stormed out of Theresa's room, telling her never to call her again. Chad followed her out and began berating her for being mean to Theresa. He told her that Theresa had a good heart and everything Theresa did was out of love and that he admired her for sticking it out, no matter what Ethan did to her. He said that was true love. Whitney found the whole thing completely laughable. She had noticed the way Chad looked at Theresa. Chad had quit talking to Ethan the moment he married Gwen. Whitney told Chad he could just stay there with Theresa and they could live in their happy little dream world together and walked out the door. She thought she had finally been able to get rid of him, but there he was, under her window yet again.

"Comon Whitney! Theresa said it was FATE that we were together!"

That was the last straw. Whitney had had it with people using that word to excuse everything they did. She was going to get through to Chad ronight if it was the last thing she did.

"Chad!" she bellowed thought her open window, "I have had enough! I haven't loved you nor wanted to be with you for months now and you just don't take the hint! I thought things would work out for us once my dad left, but they didn't. I am not attracted to you anymore."

"But Theresa said..."

"I don't care what Theresa said. Theresa is a hair brained, power hungry, self-centered, coniving little wench and the smartest thing Ethan ever did was leave her."

Chad was taken aback. Whitney had never talked like this before. "Now hod on a minute..."

"No, you hold on. Theres used me when it was convienient for her. I thought she actually cared about me, but she didn't care about anything but herself. She only wanted me around to back her up and I'm not going to be used like that anymore. I have my tennis and I have my family, that's enough for me right now. Now get off my property or I'll call the cops!"

"B-b-but, Whitney....I don't want to lose you!" Chad stammered.

"You don't have me to lose anymore. You better get running, you only have five seconds" Whitney said as she picked up the phone.

Chad started to argue, but thought better of it as he scooted off the lawn. Whitney watched him go, a smile on her face. She had never felt better in her life. No boyfriend to hold her down. No clingy needy self proclaimed best friend. She picked up her tennis racket for a few practice swings. This was the beginning of a new and exciting life.
