Chapter 21
Later that afternoon, Liz stood under the shower at her sister’s house
and felt like crying. She hadn’t slept with Alistair since that night he
told her what he had done, but sometimes, she still felt him on her. Still
felt him like a powerful curse hanging over the love she hoped her and T.C.
shared. She knew that he would hate her if the truth came out. She laughed
at how unfortunate T.C. was—falling in love with liars. She had to clear
her head though because today was important. She was going to see Alistair
and make sure they were done with the bargain and that no one would know
what went on between them. She still had no idea how she was going to get
her revenge on her sister, but she was going to do it. It would have to
be subtle and T.C. would have to see her as the victim. She knew their blood
relation could not be kept quiet for long.
“Hello, sister.” Eve drew back the shower curtain and smiled at her shocked
sibling.
“What are you doing here?!” Liz pushed past her and grabbed for a towel.
Something about Eve’s manner made Liz’s stomach queasy.
“You know why I’m here. A little bird whispered in my ear this morning,
sister. He told me about Daddy and the school. You remember the school?” Eve
threw some clothes at her sister, amazed how fast she had moved into her
home. It didn’t even feel like her home anymore.
“I don’t know what you mean. Unless you are talking about how your father
raped me.”
“No. You see, I know that’s a lie. I had some free time this morning and
decided it was past time to look into your accusations. I woke up early
and drove to our home town and asked questions. Apparently, you weren’t
even home when you said Daddy ‘touched’ you. You weren’t even in the golly
in state. Hell, you burned down a school. And you come here so high and mighty
with your plans to take my husband, break my family and rub your shoe on
my face.” By now Eve had cornered her sister on the bed. She could feel her
sister shaking with fear beneath her and it made her feel powerful.
“SO WHAT!?! I’m glad you know the truth, Eve. I’m soooo glad that it’s
out because that changes nothing. You still left home to wh*re around. You
still left me!” Liz felt herself began to cry actual tears. She slapped
her sister with an open palm.
“Oh, you are going to regret that.” Eve slapped her back and they began
to struggle. They both let out held in steam and all of their anger. Each
bruise on Eve’s face made Liz feel better and each scream Liz emitted made
Eve feel lighter. Liz tore at her sister’s clothes and tried to pull her hair
loose from the tight bun. Eve scratched and pulled her sister’s wavy hair.
“What the heck is going on?!” T.C. had come home for a nice afternoon quickie
and a gift for Liz when he saw his newly made ex wife fighting with his
new naked girlfriend. He immediately went and pulled Eve off of Liz.
“Are you jealous or something Eve?” T.C. had never seen his wife like this,
he had to admit it, it was hot.
“Of course not. Let go of me.”
“Well, whatever, you can fight all you want Eve, but I’m not leaving Liz.
I love her.” T.C. left both sisters shocked. Eve tilted her head and drew
her eyebrows close together.
“You cannot be serious. We end our twenty year marriage and now you are
in love with someone else? Already? You don’t even know her.”
“I know she’s good for me. I know she’s not frigid in bed. I know she adores
me and listens to me. I know she’s not always defending some Crane and she
actually cares about our children.”
Eve slapped him hard for the last bit. She did not care that T.C. had moved
on so quickly, after all she was not one to judge. She did care that he
seemed to think Liz was a better mother to her children. The children she
raised right and loved. She could have kicked him in the balls for that
one.
“I love you too, T.C.” Liz ran into his arms and inhaled him. Never had
she felt so safe before.
“I’m going to leave now. Apparently, the air in this room and is heavily
laced with stupid. I knew about Liz, T.C. I’m just surprised you love her.
Best wishes. We’ll talk later Liz, darling. Trust.” Eve walked out of her
old bedroom and out of her old life.
She never wanted to return again.
Pilar returned to her home feeling sore and broken hearted. She was sure
she had done the right thing by turning down the proposal of her beloved
but it still made her feel horrible. She was waiting for that glorious feeling
of right and it just never came. It was a wonder she slept last night. The
room next to hers had been loud as all get out and the voices had sounded
familiar. Pilar, however, was too depressed to try and listen in.
“Mama!” Theresa jumped up off of the love of her life and stared right
into her mother’s shocked yet tired face.
“Theresa! What on earth?” Pilar was dragged out of her miserable state
at the sight of Theresa on top of Fox. Fox tried to look guilty but the
boy never could manage the face.
“We need to talk in private! Now!” Pilar grabbed her daughter’s arm and
pulled her away from Fox.
“Mama, I’m sorry. I thought you wouldn’t be home and we couldn’t very well
kiss in the mansion. That’s kind of disrespectful to my marriage vows, don’t
cha think?” Theresa tried to hide her smile but could not. She loved Fox
so much that even when she knew she should feel shame, she felt nothing but
happy.
“So, you are over that Ethan Crane fate thing?” Pilar tried to wrap her
head around this. She was just happy that it seemed as though her daughter
had moved on from the relationship that seemed to plague her life.
“Far past moved on. But don’t let anyone know, okay? Mama, what happened
here needs to stay here in order…
“In order for what?”
“ Just promise, you will keep our secret.”
“Fine.” Pilar felt uneasy as soon as she agreed but she knew that look
in Fox’s eyes. He loved her daughter and her daughter loved him. She refused
to think about how confusing this was all going to be when it came out.
She also refused to think about what her daughter was planning. She guessed
that it was revenge but then again, Pilar could not blame her. Gwen stole
Jane from Theresa and no one crossed Theresa without feeling some pain.
“Just be careful.”
