Chapter eleven

Later on that day after the three of them had lunch together, Eve and Julian parted ways with Simone and headed back to the mansion. While walking into the mansion, Eve told Julian to go upstairs and get some rest and that she would be up there shortly. Afterwards, she went into the living room and sat down on the couch to think about today’s events, when one of the maids came in and handed her an envelope.

‘I wonder what this could be.’ She thought as she tore open the envelope and pulled out the papers that were inside of it. As soon as she read the first three lines of the first page, she knew what it was then proceeded walked over to the desk that was in the corner of the living room and signed her signature in on the line present.

Looking at her signature on the paper made Eve realize that this was really it, that over the course of four months, the life that she lived for over twenty years was over. This was inevitable, and she knew it the moment her past came out… her marriage was over. Walking over to the little table in the corner, Eve fixed herself a small drink, then went back over to the desk and picked up those papers.

“You wanted a divorce T.C., you got it. You are officially out of my life for good and I can finally be who I always wanted to be and not have any regrets. So here’s to freedom.” Eve said as she raised her drink in the air, smiled then took a sip of it. Before she could even finish it, an annoying and irritating voice came booming through the halls of the mansion along with what sounded like an animal!

“Pookie, I’m home and I brought you a surprise!” Rebecca said seductively.

Hearing the voice of Rebecca, what she said and that animal, made Eve choke on her drink before spiting it out. Rebecca heard this noise and walked into the living room to see what it was but stopped in her tracks as she came face to face with Eve.

“What the hell is going on here?! Last time I checked you were in a coma.” Rebecca said.

Eve, who had been coughing roughly in the corner by the desk, struggled to catch her breath as Rebecca walked in on her with a ferret in her hands. ‘What the hell is that?! Ugh…could this day get any worse?’ Eve thought. She was still coughing and struggling to get her breath back, when Julian appeared out of nowhere and ran passed Rebecca to assist her.

“Eve?!”

“Uh hello Pookie, what is this tramp doing in my home?”

“Oh shut up, can’t you see she’s choking?!” Julian said as he tried to help Eve catch her breath.

“I haven’t seen you in four months and I brought you back some gifts too…well most of them are gifts for me, but how can you just avoid the presence of my beauty for the likes of her? Rebecca pouted at him.

“Because I just did!” Julian said then looked at Rebecca before pausing. ‘What in the world?! Is that a ferret?!’ He thought before shaking his head then turning his attention back to Eve. “Darling are you alright?”

“I’m…fine…Julian…thank you.” Eve said in between breaths.

“You still haven’t answered my question pookie, what is she doing here?”

“She’s staying here with me now.”

“Since when?”

“Since I said so. A lot has changed in the last four months Rebecca, many things.” Julian said.

“What things?”

”Lots. I was going to call and tell you I wanted a divorce, but since you’re here, I’ll tell to your face…I want a divorce.”

“Oh please don’t make me laugh. I’m not going anywhere, but your mistress is. Remember I have the goods on you.” Rebecca said with a knowing smirk.

“Your days of blackmail me are over, and I want you out of my home tonight or else I’ll throw you out myself.”

“Alistair is not going let you be with her, a black woman, so just cut this nonsense out already.”

“I mean it, I want you gone tonight.” Julian said.

“You can love her all you want, but I’m not giving up this Crane name without a fight.”

“I knew you would say something like that and I was prepared for it. For the past few months, I have been digging up dirt you and I can say it’s nothing nice. The stuff you did in your past is far worst than mine. If you don’t give me a divorce, I will make sure that everything about your past comes to light. Everything.” Julian said to Rebecca in a serious tone.

The look on Rebecca’s face spoke volumes as she started to visibly tremble in fear. She hadn’t thought about what would happen if Julian got dirt on her and it was true, her past was far worst than his.

“What’s the matter Becs, cat got your tongue?” Julian said then smiled knowing that he had her. ‘I don’t know why I didn’t think of this sooner.’

“You wouldn’t dare.” Rebecca said in a trembling voice.

“Try me.”

“Alright.”

“Alright what?”

“I’ll give you a divorce.”

“Good. Now about leaving to…”

“You don’t have to say it, I’m already going.” She said as hightailed it out of the living room with the ferret still her hands and headed upstairs to pack her stuff.

Julian then turned around and broke out in laughter as she disappeared from his site. Eve had finally recovered from her choking incident and decided to ask Julian what that was all about.

“Julian, what do you have on her?” she said rather bluntly.

“Nothing…yet.”

“What?!”

“Did you see the look on her face when she thought I did?” Julian said as he started laughing again.

“Julian, what if she finds out that you just lied to her? What if she…” Eve tried to say but was cut off by Julian’s lips on hers. It took her a moment to realize what had just happened before she started kissing him back.

The kiss was short lived as Julian stopped kissing her and looked her in the eyes. “Don’t worry about Rebecca, just let me handle her alright?” Julian said.

“Alright.”

“Good.” He said as he touched the side of her face with his right hand.

“Ok, how about this… you go upstairs, lie down on your bed and wait me?”

“Why?” Julian asked curiously.

“Because I have a surprise for you.”

“Really?”

“Yes really.” She said in a seductive voice.

“You don’t have to tell me twice.” Julian said as he turned and went upstairs to his room.

Eve made sure that Julian was out of site before picking up her divorce papers that had fell out of her hands the moment she started choking on her drink, and sat down at the desk. She then took out another envelop, put the papers in it and called for one of the maids to have it sent to her old home before heading upstairs to meet Julian.

Devin was walking on the wharf again thinking about the time he spent with Eve and Julian. This was the fourth time in two days that he was out walking on the wharf trying to figure things out. He couldn’t put his finger on it, but when he was with the two of them he felt some kind of connection. He knew he was supposed to feel a connection towards Eve, but Julian? Now that was a mystery to him. Thinking back, he never felt any kind of connection with his father and that didn’t make sense. And the more he thought about this, the more he realized that there was a lot more he didn’t know about his father’s past and Eve’s. Maybe, just maybe one day when he was with her alone, he would let it slip about her being his mother and then go on from there.
